Sometimes, it's the dead of night and you're just sitting in the dark, eating some cold pizza and crying to yourself. You're waiting for something good to happen. Then you kind of feel this tinge you can't really define -- it's in the bottom of your gut, so you decide to tune into those nets. Well, friend, we're glad you decided to grab your board and surf this information superhighway, because Fuelcell Games' Indie PC title Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is making the jump to Xbox Live Arcade.

You can read the announcement over at the official blog, which is sadly light on the details. Up until now, we've only had the trailer above to constantly loop, but eventually we'll get the equivalent of a trailer that we can actually control -- a prospect that is about as good as it gets.

Downloadable arcade game services seem to be doomed to shaky starts. Nintendo's Virtual Console Arcade launched in March 2009 in North America and didn't see a single new game after its launch day until June. It's currently home to just 12 games.

Microsoft's Game Room is off to a similar start. After its (buggy) launch last week, which brought with it an admittedly hefty lineup of 30 games, there won't be any more new additions for around a month. "New games will be added to the service every week, starting in late April," a rep said on the Xbox forums. But hey, at least that's a commitment to weekly releases, unlike, say, Virtual Console Arcade, to which games are released randomly, on no schedule and without warning.

[Thanks, Miguel!]

Not many of us have the good fortune of taking a soak in a hot tub time machine and waking up in 1986, the year the fighter jet pilot officially became the raddest job on the planet. Fewer still know the whereabouts of a decent arcade that has an After Burner Climax cabinet, the 2006 revival of Sega's classic air combat franchise. Thankfully, in less than a month, all of us can experience the glory of stopping a nuclear inferno from within the cockpit.

Sega of America has dated the Xbox Live Arcade release of After Burner Climax for April 21, followed by an April 22 release on PSN. The publisher did not announce a price for the downloadable title, but the Japanese version was previously priced at the $10 equivalent.

We're glad you like Battlefield 1943 so much ... because that's all you're going to get from it. Even though DICE's XBLA multiplayer shooter has reached one million downloads on Xbox Live this week, producer Gordon Van Dyke told us at PAX that there really aren't any plans for DLC. It's extra surprising when you consider that it's also the fastest rise to one million downloads for any Xbox Live Arcade game in existence, releasing back in July 2009.

We wonder how many people waited until it was $10 to buy?

This week's VC in Brief can be described with one word: epic. Seriously, Ogre Battle 64 is one of the more huge games on the N64 console. It's a traditional fantasy title -- a SRPG, if you want to go all technical on it -- and relies upon many of the genre's staples. As such, the above video weighs in at over 10 minutes. It's without a doubt the longest video we've done yet.

Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer VC in Brief as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

The ironically named iFixIt has, once again, completely disassembled a new electronic device, allowing us all to get a look at the bits that compose it without having to tear apart our own beloved devices. The latest hardware to go under the knife screwdriver: Nintendo's just-released DSi XL, which, in its torn-down form, takes up even more space!

In exhaustive detail, the iFixit team pulls apart the new, big DS, cataloging all the parts inside. Unsurprisingly, the internals are very similar to the previous DSi, save for a larger (in both capacity in physical size) battery and one fewer ribbon cable. Oh -- and, of course, those massive screens.
