Originally announced for a March 2010 release on the Xbox Live Indie Games platform, Charlie Murder, Ska Studios upcoming beat-em-up, is no longer confirmed for release through the Indie Games service. Developer James Silva told Joystiq, "As of now, Charlie Murder is not on any announced platform." According to a Ska Studios representative, the platform details and release date for the upcoming title have not been cemented.

During our PAX East demo of Charlie Murder, Silva confirmed the final game code would run on the XNA 4.0 engine, which works across Xbox 360, Windows-based PCs and the Windows Phone 7 Series mobile platform. While it's still possible Charlie will make his way to the Indie Games platform, Ska Studios is keeping a tight lid on the punk rocker's future since first revealing him to the world this past January.

What are you doing this summer? Oh, you're going to Six Flags? Screw that, you're going to want to blow stuff up ... and punch junk ... and play Gears of War 3 instead, right? Okay, we can't help you with that last one, but VG247 reports that a very similar experience will be available this summer: Quantum Theory.

A Tecmo Koei spokesperson confirmed to us that the game is set for "a TBA Summer 2010" release. Previously, the game was set to release sometime in March, but was pushed back due to quality concerns. We're sure you can't wait to see Tecmo's, uh, softer side.

Time for another massive feature to read through. This time we have Iwata sitting down with some of the staff at Capcom to discuss Monster Hunter 3. It’s obvious that Nintendo and Capcom worked rather closely on this project, and it’s not surprising to see a full Iwata Asks feature on the game! [...]

For some, the original Crackdown was little more than an entry ticket into the Halo 3 beta. Others, however, discovered a fun open-world game filled with some of the finest explosions in gaming. Crackdown 2 doesn't have the luxury of enticing gamers with free access to a big-name beta. Instead, it must rest on its own merits: the promise of improving upon every aspect of the original game.

The single-player story begins with a recap of the events of the first game. Critics noted narrative as one of the weakest aspects of the original Crackdown, and the second game attempts to address that by offering a more fleshed out story. That's not to say players' progression will be restricted in any way; you can still run and gun your way to the "final stage," if you're feeling particularly brave.

Restricting player freedom would go against what fans found so endearing about the first Crackdown. It's clear that the franchise's new developer, Ruffian Games, doesn't want to stray too far from what made the first game a success. Once again, players will be tasked with cleaning up the streets of Pacific City; this time ridding the world of a terrorist organization known as "The Cell," bent on destroying The Agency and its new hero: you.

Pilotwings, the game that taught us with huge, blocky pixels just what the SNES's scaling and rotation effects could do, touches down on the Japanese Wii Shop this week, along with the world's most beloved game about giving haircuts to personified plants.

DSiWare is a bit less thrilling this week in Japan, with a kanji practice game, some kind of coloring app about color therapy and Gameloft's Legends of Exidia. The complete list of releases follows:
  • Pilotwings (Super Famicom, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
  • Bonsai Barber (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
  • Renjuku Kanji Shougaku 6 Nensei (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
  • DS Kokoro Nurie (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
  • Legends of Exidia (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

Sony has sent out official "save the date" notices for its E3 2010 press conference, which will again return to the Shrine Auditorium at its usual 11:30AM PT time slot on Tuesday, June 15. Unlike Microsoft's duo of presentations this year, Sony won't be hosting a separate event for PlayStation Move, which already grabbed the spotlight during GDC.

Unsurprisingly, the announcement also notes that Sony will be available for appointments during E3, June 15-17, which might offer a chance to check out Tretton's promised Killzone 3. At the very least, we'll finally get our mouths on that delicious batter he spoke of. Right? Right?! You promised us cake!

Microsoft is allegedly preparing to implement Live functionality into the free suite of games that comes with all Windows-enabled PCs: Solitaire, Chess, Checkers, Spades, Hearts, Backgammon, Minesweeper, Purple Place, Spider Solitaire and Freecell. This tip comes courtesy of our trusted source (who accurately predicted Lucidity, NBA 2K10 Draft Combine and Tecmo Bowl: Throwback). Reportedly, each Windows game will not only get Achievements, but also chat and leaderboard support. While unconfirmed by our source, we'd anticipate this to be a free update.

If true -- and hey, our tipster's batting a thousand (that's sports talk for reliable) -- adding Live functionality to these games would be an ideal gateway for Microsoft to usher new users into Live and the Achievements system. After registering a free Games For Windows Live account, a new user would be able to instantly start building Gamerscore cred with the free games included on Windows PCs. It's Drug Dealing 101 -- give 'em the first fix for free, and they'll be hooked!
