Seems like this "Blu-ray" thing is taking off. Likely, as a PS3 owner, you're familiar with the HD movie format. With more and more PS3 systems (and standalone Blu-ray players) entering American households, it was inevitable that Blu-ray sales would continue to grow. According to a report by Home Media Magazine (via Blu-ray.com), revenues from Blu-ray sales increased 68.5% in Q1 2010 vs. Q1 2009, to $331.31 million.

While the format is continuing to grow at a rapid pace, it still has a long way to go before overtaking DVD sales. According to the report, Blu-ray still only accounts for 12.3% of packaged media sales. That's more than the 7% it represented last year, but it's clear that there are many people that have yet to convert to HD movies.

Above: the initial trailer for Dark Void Zero on DSiWare
The reception for Dark Void may have been lukewarm at best, but the "8-bit" spin-off/marketing endeavor, Dark Void Zero, was enjoyed by most who played it. Realizing that such an experience shouldn't be exclusive to one platform, Capcom has announced iPhone and PC users can download the game starting April 12. Pricing has not been announced yet, so we're following up with Capcom on that.

And if you're holding out for Xbox Live and PSN, know that Capcom currently has no plans for those platforms. However, back during CES, a Capcom producer told Joystiq that he'd "love to do it."

EA's Hasbro Family Game Night collection on XBLA will receive three new titles this summer: Pictureka!, Connect 4x4 and Jenga.

It's relatively easy to imagine how the Xbox 360 interpretations will work with Pictureka! and Connect 4x4. Pictureka! is a hide-and-seek visual game, whereas Connect 4x4 is a twist on the classic title, which supports more players and includes a "super squares" mode with power-ups on the board. As for Jenga -- and its real-world repercussion of creating a mess once your block tower topples -- EA might just capture some of that Boom Blox magic in HD. Although, we still posit that playing Jenga on a computer screen is about as suspect as clothed Twister.

Aqua Panic!, originally a PSP game called Downstream Panic!, is making its way to the PlayStation Network tomorrow in Europe, and some time in May in America. This puzzler has you using a variety of water-manipulating tools, as you try to take a group of fish safely back to water. Along the way, you'll have to watch out for deadly traps like giant piranhas. It may look cute, but it is deceptively difficult.

In addition to a PSP re-release, developer Eko is making an enhanced PS3 version of the game, featuring 1080p graphics, leaderboards and background music support. For those of you looking for an absurdly cute puzzle game, you may want to check this out. Watch the trailer after the break.

Hey there PlayStation devotees,

I’m swinging by the PlayStation.Blog to talk to you about our upcoming PSP exclusive Hexyz Force. (Also to collect on a bet I made with Kevin Butler a while back. Apparently one of his many job titles is not VP of Clutch Three-Point Shooting.)

Hexyz Force is an engrossing RPG that tells not just one, but two engrossing tales. That’s a lot of engrossing, folks. Either follow Levant von Schweitzer through a tale of political intrigue, war and racial tensions, or play as Cecilia Armaclite as she learns about embracing responsibility, love and friendship. While most people would charge double the price for a value such as this, or possibly even tack on one of the tales as downloadable content, we are pleased to bring this game to you for the recession-friendly price of only $29.99! (A huge theoretical savings!)

While the two tales are playable as their own separate, self-contained games, playing them both will flesh out the main story and the universe more than you’d get out of just playing through the game as one character. So you have all the benefits of getting a different story with different party with different skills, yet you still have the joy of digging further and wringing every last drop of fun out of a game.

One of the nice features Sting put into this game are the 20 minutes of animated cutscenes. Quality 2D animation and sprites are always going to have a place in video games, so it’s nice to see a developer show the care and attention needed to craft things like this.

Despite what certain members of the House of Representatives think, this is not something someone should be nuked over.

So, you know that Hexyz Force is going to have a nice story and some impressive visuals, but what about the gameplay? RPGs hang their hat on their gameplay, so none of this other stuff matters if Hexyz isn’t fun to play as a game, right? Well, I’m happy to say that Hexyz Force has an engaging, complex system for combat.

If you’re an RPG veteran, you’re going to be able to get right into the turn-based gameplay. If you’re trying crank up your effectiveness, you’ll start trying to work the Hexyz Charge into your strategy to pile on the damage.

How about a round of applause for John Tubera, our awesome video guy.

Attacks are generally classified as falling under one of the three Divine Aspects. If you use an attack that is the same Aspect as the previous attack, or use an attack from an Aspect that is stronger than the previous Aspect, the Hexyz Charge will build. When you finally break the Charge, your attack will be boosted depending on how large you got the Charge to grow.

In addition to that, there’s the fun of crafting and fusing your own weapons, and scanning the world to find hidden treasure points. There’s a little wrinkle in pretty much every aspect of Hexyz that you can use to boost your advantage.

Well, that’s pretty much all the time I have for today. If I’ve piqued your interested in this title, swing by the game’s official website and learn more about it, or pre-order Hexyz Force for your PSP today. It’s solid, affordable, and a great value for those long summer months.

Thanks for stopping by and reading,

Clayton S. Chan

Here's something, at one point, we thought we'd never write: Alan Wake has passed Microsoft certification and is on track to release May 18. The news comes via Alan Wake's community forums, where community manager Pete Papadopoulos posted some pictures of the developers celebrating and opening up a bottle of champagne they bought during development, specifically for this occasion. Who knew they even made champagne back then?

Jesting aside, there's some exciting new footage of Alan Wake -- including a rundown of its setting and combat -- just after the break.
