The Sam & Max franchise is making its first foray onto PS3 next Thursday, April 15. I think I speak for us all when I say, “It’s about dang time!”

The third season of Sam & Max – The Devil’s Playhouse – hits PSN next week with Episode 1: The Penal Zone. If you’re not familiar with the Telltale Games style of play, it’s all based on an episodic adventure game structure where story drives the gameplay. To break down the fine details, listen to what director and writer Chuck Jordan has to say about the premiere on PS3 in the video below.

You can pre-order the entire five-episode series now for $29.99, which secures all five installments for a $5 discount.

Visually speaking, I think we’re in line for the best version of Sam & Max yet. But hey, I’m biased. Now go tell Telltale we want Strong Bad and Wallace & Gromit!

Hot on the heels of rumors of a new F.E.A.R. title, Warner Bros. has made F.E.A.R. 3 official. The game is scheduled to release this fall on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Freaky devil child Alma is back once again, along with "Point Man," the protagonist from the original F.E.A.R. and even Paxton Fettel. While the single-player campaign tasks players with controlling Point Man once again, a new "divergent co-op" mode allows a second player to take control of Fettel. The press release also notes that F.E.A.R. 3 will feature "an evolved cover system."

F.E.A.R. 3 is being developed by Day 1 Studios, the developer behind the console ports of the original F.E.A.R. as well as the more recent Fracture. Warner Bros. has also enlisted the help of horror director John Carpenter and writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night). Niles co-wrote the script for the game, while Carpenter "provided his expertise in crafting the in-game cinematics."

And yes, it's been confirmed that the game's logo is, in fact, F.3.A.R., officially opening the door for its inevitable sequel: F.E.4.R.

The modders at Kitty Corp: Meow Mix, the group behind the remarkably awesome Cloud Strife appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, have worked their inexplicable magic once more, bringing a decidedly non-Nintendo character into the frantic fighting game. This time around, it's the Halo universe's quintessential badass, Master Chief -- or rather, a re-skinned version of Captain Falcon, who is fully decked out in Master Chief's armor. (We really hope he asked permission before trying it on.)

You can check out a video of Master Chief's moves in a playful sparring match against Cloud just past the jump. Enjoy that video, because it might be the closest to a 3D version of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion that we'll ever get.

[Thanks, Ike!]

There's a handful of mysterious offerings in this week's European PSN update -- the most notable being the launch of chapters 4 - 6 of Blue Toad Murder Files, which, by its very nature, is extremely mysterious. Then there's the mystery of the misspelled moniker of Freekscape: Escape from Hell and, finally, the mystery of "no, seriously, what the hell is FirstPlay, and why am I paying £8.99 for three months of it?" Let the sleuthing begin!

While Lego Batman and Lego Rock Band have tempted me, I've always stuck with the regular versions of those games rather than diving into any block-based variations. But nevertheless, I sat down to check out TT Games' latest Lego outing, Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, with an open mind -- I have read and liked the Harry Potter books, and seen and enjoyed most of the movies. Maybe actually seeing Lego Hogwarts in action would win me over.

It's a beautiful day to be a Joystiq reader and a fan of Peter Molyneux. After years of extensive testing and the (as it turns out, unnecessary) deaths of millions of lab animals, we've finally perfected the Peter Molyneux Quote Realisticator 2007 (sorry about the name, we had to delay it a few times). So now, when Peter Molyneux tells IGN that Fable 3 will feature "the greatest cast that any computer game has ever had," you know it's the equivalent of a regular person saying, "Fable 3 has a pretty darn good cast."

Actually, we're a little surprised his praise is so mild. John Cleese as your butler? Stephen Fry as Reaper? What does it take to impress you, man?

The interesting thing about BBC's announcement of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games -- instead of it sounding like farmed-out licensed schlock -- is there appears to be some actual creative weight behind it. Beginning in June 2010, four original "interactive episodes" will release for free on the BBC Doctor Who website. The episodes feature the current cast, and are executive produced by new show-runner Steven Moffat (among others, including Charles Cecil), with story and script by Doctor Who and Torchwood alumni. It's being developed by Sumo Digital. Piers Wender, head of drama for BBC Wales and executive producer for Doctor Who says, "There aren't 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year, there are 17 - four of which are interactive."

The BBC had previously stated it was looking into multiple "experiences" for Doctor Who games. Depending on the quality of the final product, this certainly opens up new trans-media opportunities for network television beyond Flash games and webisodes. We still wish Telltale Games were involved.

A little less than a year after the game was officially revealed, Def Jam Rapstar finally has a distributor and a release window. Konami revealed that it will be bringing the Rakimulator to junior MCs on Wii, 360 and PS3 this fall. We only know a handful of the game's 40+ songs, but we've listed what we know right after the break.

A tip for the future rappers this game inspires: When trying to appear "hard" amongst your colleagues and the subject of paying dues arises, admitting that you got your start "on the streets of Def Jam Rapstar" probably isn't going to win you any brownie points. And if there's one thing that holds sway in the rap industry, it's brownie points.
