Yes, Assassin's Creed 2 has be awarded with a Guinness World Record. You might be surprised, however, to learn that it has nothing to do with how good the game is. No, Assassin's Creed 2 has been awarded the world record for "being the most cover-featured video game." In other words, it appeared on more magazine covers between April 2009 and April 2010 than any other game.

According to the press release, Assassin's Creed 2 appeared on 127 covers throughout 32 different countries. Said Gaz Deaves, editor of the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition, "I'm sure plenty of commentators (including myself) would have predicted another well-known game winning the title instead, and this achievement is even more impressive in view of the other 2009 releases that Assassin's Creed 2 was able to beat."

While it's an impressive feat by any standard -- and one Ubisoft marketing must be proud of -- we have to wonder if the record would hold up to closer scrutiny of games released before 2009. After all, there aren't as many gaming magazines around as there used to be, and a few games -- Street Fighter, Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat come to mind -- appeared on quite a few magazine covers in the past. What do you say, Ubisoft competitors? Anyone want to do some research and challenge the record?

Coming from a talent agency PDF… Well, it sounds like there are some big titles heading to both Wii and DS from Planet Moon. I’m guessing these games are going to be revealed sometime around E3. Let’s just hope major brands mean something gaming related, and not a toy line! Thanks to Hero [...]

I haven’t really talked about the Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 rumors on the site because I don’t think the title would end up on the Wii. With that said, I’ve been getting a lot of emails about the topic, so I figured I would start keeping tabs on it. The latest rumor comes [...]

While we saw what Pokemon Black/White would look like through some magazine scans, it’s nice to have the direct-feed screens. Of course, now that we do have those, we can pick apart every little thing we see within. Just how telling are these screens of the changes that Pokemon Black/White will bring to [...]

David Gosen has left his post as Microsoft's VP of Strategic Marketing for EMEA territories, two years after being brought on to help expand Microsoft's foothold in Europe. The former I-Play CEO and managing director of Nintendo Europe plans "to explore new opportunities outside of the company," according to MCV.

Chris Lewis, the VP of interactive entertainment who will now oversee the European marketing team, suggests that Gosen has fulfilled his objective while at Microsoft. "The Xbox marketing team and Live business in EMEA has made great progress over the last two years," he said, "during a phase of consistent investment and innovation." The last we heard, Xbox 360 sales had crossed the 10 million mark in Europe alone. And now Gosen must answer the call of another brand that needs expansion in Europe. There's the Gosen-signal now! Gosen to the rescue!
