#weekendreader Every adventure requires an antagonist, someone or something corrupting the world you're in. It's a basic need. Yet why do so many games serve up foes whose evildoing provides more of a chore to be undone than a memorable struggle? More »

Within the span of nine days, we've seen Pokémon Black & White go from being announced to being featured in magazines to, now, appearing in video form on the madness-fueled weekly Japanese show Pokémon Sunday. A Siliconera reader with a penchant for insanityvision (like television, but, ya know, insane) spotted the footage, which has the show's hosts (and Lucario) gasping and commenting on a brief gameplay clip.

Since our resident Pokéxpert Griffin McElroy is out this weekend, we're unable to confirm whether the footage matches the levels of excitement displayed by the show's hosts, but we have to imagine that, somewhere, he just got stood up and cheered without knowing why. See it for yourself after the break.

How is Twitter like Metal Gear Solid's codec system? Two ways: you see a picture of the person speaking next to every statement, and Hideo Kojima writes a lot for both. Andriasang pointed out a Tweet from the game designer, revealing that cuts had to be made to the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to keep the game at a CERO (Japan's equivalent to the ESRB) "C" rating.

"The PSP is supported by the younger generation," Kojima said. "That is why we avoided the animation of bloodspill. However, 'A Scene' that is critical and essential to the series was pointed out by the rating board." Kojima lamented the fact that the anti-war and anti-nuke messages of the game were ignored by the ratings board, while one bloody scene was seized upon. The American and European releases of the game will be uncut. We believe the scene in question is likely to be a torture sequence, a staple of the Metal Gear Solid series. It is most assuredly not the scene in which Snake fights a giant dragon-type creature.

Celebrate the uncensored nature of the localized game by watching the American trailer above, originally posted on the PlayStation Blog.

This is how Capcom is going to beat out the stores that sold Monster Hunter 3 early. Gamers can play the single player all they want, but they’re not going to be able to go online until the official launch date! Thanks to Kolma for the heads up.

Last we heard about Singularity, the game got pushed back to an amorphous "June" release date by publisher Activision. Heck, the game's developer, Raven Software, even had to lay off some folks last summer to reflect a lightened workload after the release of Wolverine and Wolfenstein.

But the game popped back up on our radar last night when its latest trailer was shown on GameTrailers TV, complete with a solidified June 29 release date (as Amazon and Gamefly listings previously indicated). If you're into WWII-era alternate realities featuring god-like special abilities, the trailer that we've embedded after the break is right up your alley. If not, well, here are the Wonderpets with a very sewious message.

There've been rumors swirling around about a sequel to Capcom's superhero-flavored fighter Marvel vs Capcom 2 pretty much since the game arrived 10 years ago. And given Capcom's recent success with a Street Fighter revival -- not to mention the sales rampage of MvC2 on XBLA and PSN -- the sequel rumormill has once again begun turning furiously. This week's press-only Captivate event in Hawaii, held yearly by the Japanese publisher, is said to have showcased just such a sequel in Marvel vs Capcom 3 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, claims PlanetXbox360. At the same event, a sequel to Bionic Commando: Rearmed is alleged to have been announced, though no details are given.

According to the report, MvC3 will receive a retail release and will run in "full 1080p." Allegedly, while the full character list is unknown, some have been confirmed. "Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm, and a few others will be back; but the team behind MvC3 have said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes," the piece claims. Rather than sticking with 2D graphics of MvC2, the rumored sequel is said to mix Street Fighter IV's graphical style with the last Marvel vs Capcom game's 2D style. The piece finally claims we'll hear more about the title next week and it'll even be playable at E3 in June. When we reached out to Capcom for comment, we were told, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors."

[Thanks Nathan Garcia!]

Editors' note: Joystiq is not attending Captivate this year. We determined the perceived environment, and associated downtime, of the event was not in accordance with our editorial policy.
