As predicted by analysts late last year, Nintendo is forecasting a drop in annual profits for the first time since the Nintendo DS's 2004 introduction. It's not a loss, just a reduction in profits -- Nintendo is still forecasting profits of ¥230 billion ($2.43 billion), compared to fiscal 2009's ¥279.1 billion ($2.95 billion). The AP's Yuri Kageyama notes that the Wii price drop, as well as slower sales early in the fiscal year (reflected in the first half earnings report), negatively impacted Nintendo's profits.

Analyst Yuta Sakurai thinks Nintendo is being too pessimistic (or just not optimistic enough, considering that the subject is enormous profit). "We are expecting the results to be better than the company forecasts for the Wii," the Nomura Securities analyst said. "Christmas shopping was strong." Nintendo did have an extraordinary December, with both the Wii and the DS breaking three million units each just in the US. It then went on to break sales records in the first two months of 2010. Perhaps Sakurai is correct, and Nintendo is just being modest about its profits. We'll find out on Thursday when Nintendo releases its annual earnings.

Hello, Feasters of the Cake!

Huzzah and Hooray!
Fat Princess has released in a portable way!

With new maps and modes for the PSP,
On top of those already from the PS3!

Play along with your friends, or go online.
You’re guaranteed a most wonderful time!

The new stuff adds up to 50 percent!
You’ve got to admit, that’s rather quite decent!

Made by a talented team at SuperVillain,
You will soon find yourself playing again and again.

Battles are fierce, intense and quite fun!
Soon you too will cry “Cake for everyone!”

OK, OK…. I couldn’t help myself. I have been in quite a festive mood as we near the release of Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake. I couldn’t help myself from trying out a bit of prose. As you can see… I won’t be running off to publish any poetry books in the near future, but I WILL be playing Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake on my PSP. I’m very proud of this game and how well SuperVillain Studios brought all of the PS3 fun into the PSP. Plus they have added so much more to it with new game modes like Demolition, Jailbreak and Grim Reaper, plus the neat Dilapidated mode which adds a neat spin to any game. In Dilapidated mode, you must first repair the hat machines in order to get them operational! The new maps are great, too. They also created a longer story mode to introduce you to these new game elements and help you get familiar with the new surroundings.

There is so much to do and so much to play,
Before you know it, you’ll have finished your day!

Sorry about that… I will stop with the rhymes now. Promise.

In fact, I’m going to finish this up and go play Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake on my PSP. It’s a whole lot of fun in the palm of your hand!

(OK, one more)

Get Fat Princess now on your PSP,

Available for download or on UMD!!

Click to fill your screen with sheer liquid wonderment There's an old sea shanty that goes: "I'm on a boat and it's going fast and I've got a nautical-themed pashmina afghan." Which reminds us that, in Hydro Thunder Hurricane from Vector Unit, you're in a boat and you're going fast -- and while it's up to you to provide your own fine pashmina wool garment, the game will provide a couple of nifty modes not found in the arcade original (or its home conversions).

The first of these is called Ring Master. Each course in the game will feature three different layouts of floating rings that must be raced through in this slalom-style event. These "gates" will get smaller and smaller as the difficulty level grows higher. Gauntlet mode will see the courses littered with exploding barrels to avoid, boost jump over or collide with, if that's your thing. Vector Unit has also built a system into its game whereby you'll see your friends' best split times as you pass checkpoints.

We've got a whole galley gallery of new screens today as well, so give 'em a look below. And if you haven't seen the game in action yet -- or read our hands-on impressions of it -- you really need to.

A portion of a Nintendo Life review… It’s safe to say if you’re after an accurate and strategic football simulation, you’re not going to find it in 2010 FIFA World Cup. The worst thing about Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II is how tough it is to write headlines about. The temptation to say that "screenshots have been unleashed" or "a new trailer has been unleashed" is palpable, but it just sounds weird when the word's already right there in the title like that.

As you can see, when we attempted to communicate that the game's official Facebook group had revealed its release date as October 26, our brains panicked and instead called up a reference to Star Trek. We hope that, in time, you can forgive us.
