With PC games continuously losing retail shelf space and Mac games having little shelf space to begin with, Steam presents the first significant distribution platform, digital or otherwise, the Mac gaming platform has seen in years (ever?). It remains to be seen if Steam for Mac and Steamworks - the platform's suite of tools covering everything from copy protection, anti-cheat support, and key-based authentication to Steam community, Steam Cloud, and microtransactions - will be enough to encourage publishers to incur the added expense of porting games to the Mac OS X platform but tomorrow's launch offerings are certainly promising.

Valve says that, in addition to the games launching tomorrow, on "subsequent Wednesdays, additional collections of Mac titles will become available, each designed to highlight specific functionalities of Steam on the Mac." The first collection will highlight "Steam Play," meaning games that work on all "Steam supported platforms," currently Windows and Mac OS. Valve identified its own Portal and the Diablo-esque Torchlight as launch titles, the only two to be officially announced.

The Steam for Mac beta client reveals over three dozen "Mac games," all currently available via Steam on Windows. Notable entries include LucasArts classics like The Dig, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and Loom, some of Telltale's episodic offerings, including the most recent installment of Sam & Max and the entire first season of Tales of Monkey Island, and several PopCap titles, like Peggle Deluxe, Peggle Nights, and Bejeweled 2. Also listed and currently playable (unlike every other listing in the Mac beta, short of Portal) is Team Fortress 2, though it's curiously not mentioned in Valve's press release which heralds Portal as "the first of Valve's Source engine based games available on the Mac."

Notably still missing from this list are Valve's Half-Life and Left 4 Dead series, PopCap's already-Mac-compatible Plants vs. Zombies, and plenty of other Mac-compatible titles currently on Steam. This forum thread has a nice list of potential Steam Mac games, and we've asked Valve to comment on how many of the currently listed games will be available tomorrow. Check out of a screenshot of the Mac store, as it looks today in its beta state, after the break.

The quirky Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker t-shirt line being sold by retailer UNIQLO will be available in the US starting June 11. To celebrate the US launch, Hideo Kojima himself will appear at the Flagship UNIQLO store in New York City on that day to sign autographs. In addition, prizes including artbooks and PSP bundles will be given away.

The best part: for the millions of us who don't live anywhere near a UNIQLO store, the shirts will also be available online. Each one will include a code for the same shirt in-game. You can put a picture of Snake on Snake so you can sneak while you sneak. See all the designs here.

Bethesda is releasing a Fallout: New Vegas package worth squirreling away in your bomb shelter. The Collector's Edition includes a bunch of goodies modeled after items found in the game, including a set of seven casino chips representing casinos from the game, a special "Lucky 38 platinum chip," a deck of cards with New Vegas character imagery ("Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for New Vegas!").

A hardcover graphic novel, "All Roads," written by Obsidian creative director Chris Avellone, and a making-of DVD are also included in the package. Bethesda didn't offer a price for the Collector's Edition, but GameStop has it at $79.99 on PS3 and Xbox, and $69.99 on PC.

The Prince of Persia is everywhere! Along with a major motion picture from the same team that brought us Pirates of the Caribbean, the character will be appearing in a graphic novel and a new videogame set in the time frame between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within. Audrey Cleo spoke with the developers at Ubisoft to learn more about the new gameplay mechanics, while Veronica Belmont explores Wondercon 2010 to catch up with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. There’s also a preview of the graphic novel in the Qore digital gallery.

Qore also provides an early look at the just-announced LittleBigPlanet 2! The team visited Media Molecule in the UK to understand how the creativity of the community inspired them to push the boundaries in the sequel to transform the platform game into a platform for games.

There have been thousands of improvements and additions to PlayStation Home since Qore first visited back in 2008. Veronica sits down with PlayStation Home Director Jack Buser to discuss his favorites, including the upcoming midway space… and Producer Katherine de Leon reveals an upcoming new space with a steampunk aesthetic.

Fans of mixed martial arts will know the name Jens Pulver— the first UFC lightweight champion. He’s a serious gamer and his character is also exclusive in the PS3 version of UFC Undisputed 2010. So, Audrey Cleo met up with the legend at his new training facility in Boise, Idaho and actually jumps into the cage with “Lil Evil.”

Qore’s download center is full of goodies this month for both subscribers and single-episode purchasers. There’s an exclusive Qore trucker’s cap for PlayStation Home. It’s the perfect companion to last year’s Qore T-shirts (which, if you missed them, are also part of this episode by popular demand). Download them through Qore and then enter your Home wardrobe to check out your new threads.

Also, in celebration of the LittleBigPlanet 2 preview feature, there’s also a Qore exclusive cap for use in the original game. And finally, everybody can download the Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands theme.

Look for Episode 24 later today when PlayStation Store updates.

And this Thursday, May 13, meet Veronica Belmont and Audrey Cleo in PlayStation Home at 9 PM EDT in the Qore Theater. They’re bringing outtakes from this month’s episode and answers to your questions.

Are you particularly proud of the homebrewed 3D Dot Game Heores character model you recently whipped up? You know, the one that looks like Link/Mario/Belmont/Your favorite Final Fantasy archetype? Great news -- you can now share your pixelated protagonists with other players, or simply borrow the fruits of their labors, using the recently launched "Hall of Heroes" web hub.

There are only a handful of characters live on the hub right now, but they all look like they'd serve as worthy saviors of the land of Dotnia. Especially the one named "Rad Naner," which is a banana wearing sunglasses and riding a skateboard.

You can imagine our surprise to read that the company has licensed Crytek's CryEngine 3 for the first game from its London studio, "a uniquely crafted combat action-adventure" for 360 and PS3.

So, wait a minute, the house that brought us Boing! Docomodake DS is cooking up a CryEngine action game on PS3 and 360? Dare we ask? Could this be ... the remix to Ignition?

Skate 3 has been touted as a social experience ever since it was announced, encouraging players to "team up" and "throw down," all in the name of being the best skateboard crew around. It's a new focus for the series, but if you're going to justify your sequel with a single feature, that feature had better work well.

In an interview on Saudi television, the marketing manager for Microsoft's entertainment and devices division for the region revealed Project Natal's launch window: October 2010. GamerTagRadio has the clip of Microsoft's Syed Bilal Tariq saying, "We will be in a position to confirm the date after E3, which is in June. But definitely it is going to be October 2010 and we will have it in Saudi Arabia for sure."

The last official word we'd heard about the all-seeing, motion-tracking peripheral's launch date was "holiday season 2010." With E3 a little over a month away, we're expecting to learn specific dates soon -- likely at Natal's standalone press conference.
