Electronic Arts' high-profile sequels helped the publisher fight its way to some positive cash flow in the final quarter of an otherwise traumatic fiscal year. Overall, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 led the charge with over three million units sold in the quarter across Europe and North America, with five million units sold to date.
Mass Effect 2 didn't do too shabby, selling 1.6 million units during the quarter in North America and Europe, while Army of Two: The 40th Day sold "over one million units worldwide in the quarter." It wasn't all sequel talk for the core titles,as Dante's Inferno got a mention too, having sold "almost one million units in the quarter" across Europe and North America. Oh, Dante, don't cry! It ain't easy for a new franchise in this world -- just ask EA's new IPs from last fiscal year.
Metroid: Other M isn’t coming out as soon as we’d like it to, but at least it’s still coming out this Summer. Waiting until August 31st isn’t going to be that fun, but once the game comes out, at least we’ll have plenty to keep us busy! Beating the heat with AC and [...]

Here's Retrovision, and it looks like something a friend of mine did - jamming a CD adapter into a cassette adapter into the eight-track slot of a Dodge Colt's car stereo. Retrovision is about as practical, yet just as awesome. More »
Without the proper prior information, the 3D Dot Game Heroes trailer posted above would seem like a rare miss for Atlus' clever marketing machine. After all, it features a fairly horrific rap about some of the game's bonus modes, most of which have been shoehorned into an incredibly awkward rhyme scheme. However, once you realize the commercial is a parody of this 1986 Legend of Zelda ad, you realize -- well, it's still a trainwreck, but it's a parodical trainwreck.
Better still, it's an appropriate parodical trainwreck, considering the rest of 3D Dot Game Heroes borrows inspiration from Nintendo's emerald-hatted adventurer. And by "borrows," of course, we mean "straight-up plunders."
If you've been playing the Halo: Reach beta -- and, statistically, you probably have -- you've likely noticed a lot a changes compared to Halo 3. Look a little closer and you'll find something more sinister: bugs, glitches, issues. Of course, it is a beta test, so such things are expected. Still, in the latest weekly update, the folks at Bungie decided to calm our fears and explain that things will be fixed for the final release this fall. Among the issues addressed: teammates stealing flags in Stockpile, barely visible aiming reticules and the ad nauseam barrage of "Flag taken ... flag dropped" in CTF matches. Bungie assures fans that these and other issues have already been fixed in the current build of Reach.
In other Reach news, Bungie has posted a handy beta survival guide compiled buy community member Shake Appeal. If you're having trouble adjusting to the new weapons, abilities and overall feel of Halo: Reach, you may want to give the guide a once over.
We know there have been plenty of pretenders to the Puzzle Quest throne, many developed/perpetrated by developer Infinite Interactive itself. But do you still remember? Is there a place in your memory for those seemingly countless hours you spent peering into your DS, hoping to line up enough red gems to get off that last fire spell before you were overwhelmed by a giant spider? Do you remember? More importantly: Have the countless clones and wannabes completely dulled your desire for a return to the world of puzzle quest?
You'll have on opportunity to answer that question for yourself as publisher D3 has just announced that the follow-up, Puzzle Quest 2, will arrive in North American shops on June 22 according to Shacknews. Can't wait a month? OK, fine, here. Just don't spoil your dinner.

Hinted at a week ago, the developers of Castle Crashers for the PS3 have more information on the new four-player Arena Mode exclusive to this version of the game. It accomodates 2-on-2, 1-on-3, or good old free-for-all matches. More »
Beyond Good and Evil is one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. It doesn’t hurt that the game is also one of my favorites! Man, what a perfect title this was. What’s going on with that sequel, Ubisoft?!
Our favorite part of the original Castle Crashers was always the brief (but intense) competitive bouts which would crop up every time the players rescued a princess. We'd always swear allegiance to one of our former allies: "Let's have a pact of non-aggression until we deal with the other two!" The agreement would be honored until our accomplice was at his weakest, and then, ever so swiftly, we'd carry out our inevitable betrayal.
The Behemoth has interpreted this concept in the Arena mode for Castle Crashers on the PS3, which will now let players divide up into teams represented by a wide range of colorful flags. Check out the video after the jump to see how the buddy-buddy on buddy-buddy action breaks down.
Like a hellbent motorcyclist, Trials HD continues to roar along at terrifying speeds. But rather than rushing towards an untimely death at the hands of a particularly inflexible brick wall, RedLynx's XBLA hit is fast approaching the one million downloads mark. Sure, that kind of breaks the metaphor, but we've come this far, right? Let's forge on together.
The developer plans on hitting the milestone soon, but is hoping its community can help it figure out exactly when with a new contest. Whichever fan manages to guess closest to the exact date and time will win "some super loot" from RedLynx, including a giant Trials flag and an autographed motorcycle helmet.
You can make your guess at the official contest page, but be warned: We've already called dibs on "Pretty soon."

Having made its WiiWare debut with last summer's "spot the difference" game 5 Spots Party, Cosmonaut Games is preparing to take the plunge again, this time with a decidedly more ambitious title. Due this summer, Dive: The Medes Islands Secret is a 10-level undersea exploration game featuring "2D underwater puzzle landscapes" and the Metroid-like ability to access new areas in already-visited locales after obtaining upgrades. Check out the first screens below as you wait to live the life aquatic.

Mr. Game & Watch gets godly and grisly with Greek & Wicked, God of War reimagined for Nintendo's classic LCD handheld system, as seen on Newgrounds, where it's totally playable and as deep as any Game & Watch game you've played. More »
During EA's fourth-quarter earnings conference call, CEO John Riccitiello made a reference to a "major new massively multiplayer online game" -- probably Star Wars: The Old Republic. "EA is incurring significant development costs for a major new massively multiplayer online game," he said. "However, this game is not expected to ship in fiscal '11." Later, CFO Eric Brown responded directly to a question about The Old Republic, saying that "It's not included in our FY11 release slate."
This all but confirms that The Old Republic is the game referred to by Riccitiello during a similar call in January, when he gave a "major MMO" a release date of spring 2011. If it's in the spring, but not in EA's fiscal 2011 (which ends March 31), that means we can look forward to some Jedi fellowship sometime between April and June of next year.
Trigger finger looking fat and out of shape, vegging out on the couch watching Golden Girls reruns? Well, it better shape up this fall, because even-year developer Treyarch's latest entry in the Call of Duty series, Call of Duty: Black Ops, is coming to the Wii on November 9, Eurogamer reports. This will be Treyarch's fourth Call of Duty Wii title, after 2006's Call of Duty 3, 2008's Call of Duty: World at War, and 2009's Modern Warfare - Reflex, a Wii-ificiation of Infinity Ward's 2007 classic.
The confirmation comes from an Activision rep who stated "Black Ops will be available on all four platforms, PS3, X360, PC and Wii, on 9th November" - pretty straightforward, eh? There wasn't any other news on the Wii version, so we contacted Activision directly which confirmed the Wii release but, sadly, couldn't offer much else in the way of details.
