It's been almost two years to the day since we last heard any updates on Dungeon Siege 3, which led us to the fairly understandable conclusion that Uwe Boll may have murdered the franchise with his Statham-fronted film adaptation. Apparently, those fears were unfounded -- Square Enix just announced it will publish the series' third installment, which will be developed by Obsidian Entertainment under the supervision of Dungeon Siege forefather, Gas Powered Games' Chris Taylor.

The threequel, which is set for release on 360, PS3 and PC, will remain true to the series' roots, giving players access to a catalog of highly customizable RPG archetypes that will participate in some action-oriented ... dungeon sieging. However, for the first time in the franchise's history, players will be able to play co-op style, though the extent of these multiplayer offerings weren't specified by the game's press release announcement. We'll try to divine a few more details at E3.

We've heard it said that a musician's instrument is his weapon, especially when his concert erupts into violins. Perhaps that doesn't apply to music game peripherals, but the new Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock instruments certainly seem edgier than we've come to expect. GameAxis has shown off the new guitar design, which is confirmed by an exclusive report on Gizmodo. (How did Activision manage to lose a prototype peripheral?)

According to the report, the wireless guitar's electronics are contained within the neck, leaving the body free to be detached and replaced with alternate designs. The default guitar (seen above) is only the beginning, with an "axe" design (after the break) set to become available exclusively through pre-order at Gamestop. Wouldn't that be the perfect last-minute addition to your Fellowship of the Ring theme band?

Today Amazon is offering God of War 3 for a reduced price of $37 -- the equivalent of about 1,782 red orbs. And, frankly, it's easily worth that much.

This fall, the world’s first dual-analog firebreather is coming to PS3 and PSP via the PlayStation Network!

Developed by Big Sandwich Games, HOARD is an arcade-action game where the dragon is the hero. Your goal: collect as much treasure as possible from a living kingdom that grows around you. Burn down crops, strafe merchant wagons, and — best of all — kidnap fair maidens and force the kingdom to ransom them back for piles of gold! But watch out for vile knights and merciless wizards, who want nothing more than to gain fame by slaying a dragon.

Collecting gold at your hoard will level you up and give you upgrade points. These are used to increase your dragon’s speed, breath, armor, and health. Your strategy in choosing upgrades is crucial to scoring the most points possible on each map and rising to the top of the leaderboards. You can also complete challenges to earn Hoard Rankings and eventually become a Legendary Wyrm!

Cooperative play is supported for PS3 (both couch and online co-op), so you can get your fire on with your friends. Three different game modes and dozens of different kingdoms combine with a deep reward system and leaderboards to ensure you’ll get your treasure’s worth on this one.

Visit hoardgame.com for a developer blog, screenshots, concept art, and more.

Also, stay tuned for more info on HOARD at E3 Expo next week in LA, where the game will be available for a hands-on play!

Ain't nuffin' gettin' between the Brits and a tumble around the Wild West, partner. Not only is Red Dead Redemption the top selling game in the UK for the third week in a row (despite a 22 percent dip in sales) but, according to Chart-Track, it sold more units than the all-format chart's numbers two through seven combined.

Red Dead Redemption
's feat is made even more impressive by the knowledge that second place finisher 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa's sales slipped a measly three percent. Rounding out the rest of the top five are UFC 2010: Undisputed, Just Dance (of course!) and Wii Fit Plus. The complete UK top 10 can be found after the break.

Continuing the inexplicable trend of western games being adapted into anime (see also: Halo, Dante's Inferno), BioWare and anime publisher Funimation have announced a deal to produce an anime movie based on the Dragon Age franchise. Production started last month, with an intended 2011 direct-to-video release.

This will be the first release from Funimation's new Original Entertainment department, started to do exactly this kind of thing: develop new anime based on existing IP. We do wonder about the strict definition of the term "anime," though: if it's produced by an American publisher and based on an American (Canadian, actually) game, is it still anime? Luckily, this is one of those distinctions that doesn't matter at all. Regardless of the name, if you like Dragon Age, you'll soon get to watch a cartoon about it.

The highlight of this week's releases on DSiWare is a stylish, spacefaring puzzle game from Nintendo about incinerating space trash. All the science-fictional manmade junk contrasts nicely with WiiWare's Lead the Meerkats, which simulates the life of a group of meerkats in their natural habitat. We'd find a clever way to tie in this week's Virtual Console releases, but there aren't any.

Also, if you haven't downloaded Photo Dojo, you should do so at your earliest convenience. It's free through June 11.
