Rockstar launched an update for the 360 and PS3 versions of Red Dead Redemption yesterday which fixes, among other problems, a few connection errors which rendered the game's multiplayer component unplayable for some users. It also includes support for a "Hardcore Free Roam" mode that disables auto-aim. This new gametype will launch soon, but the update is available right now. Check out the full list of changes included in the patch below.

Stop worrying! We're here in Los Angeles, corralled in the usual E3 Joystiq War Room, preparing fierce lines of questioning and sharpening our newswriting hands for a week sure to be full of sweltering hot scoops. Aside from tonight's Project Natal ... spectacle, we'll be live from Microsoft's other press conference tomorrow, as well as Nintendo, Sony, and the many, many other events being held over the next seven days.

Looking to filter out our normal, every day news for just E3 stuffs? Head to the E3 2010 hub and go nuts! Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got a week of madness to prepare for.

#e3 The security man outside the Los Angeles Convention Center told me that the powers that be at E3 don't want any pictures taken of the big show yet. But I took most of these from the sidewalk outside. Nothing from the still-roped-off show floor. So we're cool? More »

Epic Games' Jerry O'Flaherty, art director for the original Gears of War title and once-reported director of the upcoming Thundercats film reboot, recently put together a unique pitch for a film tentatively titled Samurai. Well, okay, the film itself doesn't look too terribly unique (it's like 300, but with more wakizashi), but the fact that almost all of its backgrounds and special effects were created using the Unreal Engine sets it apart from most modern cinematic projects.

O'Flaherty explains in the pitch's description that it was created "with the intent of sharing all of the environment assets ... between the movie and the game." Seeing as how the pitch was shot with zero budget in two days, this simple proof of concept (posted after the jump) could lead to an even greater influx of cost-efficient video game-to-short film adaptations. Hey, don't give us that look! Those can be pretty good on occasion.

Patrice Désilets, who is credited as creative director on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, both Assassin's Creed titles and a handful of other Ubisoft Montreal projects, has left the company for a "creative break from the industry," Ubisoft confirmed yesterday. The publisher explained to Game Informer that Désilets' role as creative lead on Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is "essentially done," and that he's no longer involved with the completion of the game.

The factors which contributed to Désilets' departure are still largely unknown. We'll try to find answers when we get some facetime with Ubisoft later this week at E3.

Is E3 2010 going to be Nintendo’s revisiting of the Virtual Boy? No doubt that the Virtual Boy was a disaster for Nintendo. Surely they wouldn’t make another 3D project unless they knew it would work out well, and present consumers with a ton of reasons to pick it up? Let’s hope [...]
