Nintendo may be looking to shake things up with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, in terms of visuals and interface, but in every other way, the demo I played at Nintendo's E3 booth was the same Zelda we've seen for twelve years, with some hints of bigger changes behind the curtain that couldn't quite be discerned from where I was.

Many longtime gamers, including me, were disappointed by the news that the new XCOM is a first-person shooter. Having witnessed a hands-off demo of the game at E3, I can tell you two things. One, it's definitely a first-person shooter. Guns, grenades, sprinting; you know the drill. Two, the game actually has much more in common with the original X-COM games than you may think.

With so many titles shown at yesterday’s press conference, we didn’t have time to do a deep dive into every last one. But here’s one that we announced last month which I think you’ll want to see more of: MotorStorm Apocalypse. Before jetting across “the pond” to E3, SCEE’s intrepid blog-type-person scored an interview with the devs of what is shaping up to be the best MotorStorm game yet.

It felt appropriate seeing MotorStorm Apocalypse in London’s Fabric nightclub. With hard dance music throbbing out of the cutting-edge sound system and a selection of journalists seated on the vibrating dance floor, we were presented with the third MotorStorm festival on PlayStation 3.

The premise this time around, Evolution Studios’ Matt Southern explains to us in this video interview, is urban off-road racing. This is not a post-apocalyptic city; you’re there during the apocalypse and every second of every race you’re bombarded with earthquakes, explosions and other environmental madness.

For sheer lunatic ambition the team at Evolution Studios are hard to beat and with MotorStorm Apocalypse they seem to have outdone themselves. Quite simply, you’re racing through a city as the world ends around you.

Of all the demos Nintendo showed for the 3DS, most were non-interactive video displays with "Please enjoy the 3D video" on the bottom screen. This group includes Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, and more. But a few were games. I played most of the games available at Nintendo's E3 booth -- find brief impressions of each below.

You probably already know whether you fall into the audience Square Enix is targeting with its next entry into the MMORPG market, Final Fantasy XIV. You've likely been able to tell from the trailers, assets and previews from the past year that it resembles Final Fantasy XI in a number of integral ways, from its slow, methodical gameplay to its archaic, super-pretty environments.

The brief guided demo I was shown at E3 didn't give me much of a chance to explore how this game sets itself apart from the previous online Fantasy title. It was absolutely, jaw-droppingly gorgeous (especially in 3D, a feature which may or may not make it to final release), and seemed to capture the "feel" of the core series, but both of those are accolades that can be applied to the franchise's eleventh outing.

Just about a month ago, the world -- and yours truly -- got its first look at Bulletstorm, the new FPS project coming out of Epic Games in partnership with EA. Today I got my hands on it behind closed doors at EA's booth and I have to say: The demo was every bit as fun (and over-the-top) to play as I hoped it would be.

After a short briefing video going over the controls and basic concept of skill shots (which, like the demo itself, was peppered with salty language), I was dropped right into a firefight on the planet Elysium. It quickly went from a pretty FPS to a fresh, furious and utterly sadistic FPS that had me concerned I was cackling out loud in the presence of developer People Can Fly. Actually, I'm pretty sure I was.

Millions of gamers across the globe are glued to their monitors this week, rabidly devouring every last detail surrounding the announcements made during the video game industry’s biggest trade show: The Electronic Entertainment Expo. Simply put, E3 is the place to be if you are passionate about games. Everyone wants to be there, but only a select few are able to attend.

Until now.

This week, we take a huge step forward in bringing gamers closer to their favorite PlayStation titles, closer to the people that create these games, and closer to one another by delivering the E3 experience directly to their PlayStation 3 consoles.

Right now, you can log into PlayStation Home and experience E3 for yourself in PlayStation Home’s virtual E3 booth. Watch Jack Tretton’s 2010 E3 press conference and get briefed on what to expect from the PlayStation platform in the coming months. Check out the latest games and collect exclusive PlayStation Home rewards (we’ve got new ones waiting for you every day of E3). Unlock the VIP area and get a sneak peek at what’s in store for PlayStation Home fanatics this year. Only in PlayStation Home can you participate in the E3 action without boarding a plane, securing a pass, or stepping foot in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

This week marks the release of one of the top requested features from the PlayStation Home community: Games that players can collect and place at will in their personal spaces and clubhouses. Available now in the LOOT store in the PlayStation Home Mall is a new game, Cabin Boy, that users can purchase and then share with their friends in the personal space(s) of their choosing. This highly-addictive game challenges players to juggle multiple tasks (including fishing, protecting a friend from the sun’s scorching rays, and keeping a curious cat away from the daily catch) in order to place on the game’s “friend’s list” and community leaderboards. Check out this video for a look at LOOT’s new Cabin Boy game – a first for PlayStation Home.

Coming tomorrow, June 17th, is a brand new PlayStation Home game space known as the “Playground.” Previewed approximately a month ago in the official PlayStation Home forums, the appropriately titled Playground space is an urban playground and block party setting not completely unlike what you would have found in Brooklyn 30 years ago. This visually-dazzling, immersive space contains a multiplayer basketball game (H-O-R-S-E), chess, a rooftop lounge, and a stage where the community can party while enjoying high-quality, original hip-hop and funk music circa-1980. And if you want to bring the party back home, simply pick up the Playground Boombox (available on Thursday, June 24th) and take the music to your personal space for your own private bash.
