Riot Games' League of Legends has been winning accolades and fans since it released last year for a few different reasons. It's a highly polished version of Defense of the Ancients, the company has supported the game with continuous updates and new content, and oh yeah -- it's a free-to-play title.

Lately, Riot has been working on a major update they're calling "Season One," designed to make the game a little more compatible with competitive play, as well as implement some of the most requested features for the game. The update should be out within a few weeks, they told us, but on the floor of E3, we got to see some of the new tweaks in action.

We’re still catching our breath after a wild E3 week, but look for a lot more developer interviews and game details for at least the next several days here on the Blog, including an epic David Jaffe/Scott Campbell conversation.

Just a few things to link to this week; we tried to capture at least one story on every title we showed at E3, but feel free to link everyone to anything you think we missed.

Oh, and Happy Fathers’ Day!

You know what the best part about E3 2010 is? Hearing game industry analysts and journalists calling out Nintendo as having not only the best show this year, but the best show the Big N has had in a long time. That’s exactly what you want to hear from the media at large. [...]

I worried as I walked to the Spike Games booth for my E3 appointment to check out Deadliest Warrior that I might have been undeservedly kind to the game when I first saw it at GDC. Is it possible I liked the game so much because it was surprisingly un-terrible? Did I enjoy the game solely because I have a thing for preposterous juxtaposition in video games? Was I perhaps tainted from the start by the game's entertaining, edging-on-silly debut trailer?

After my second getting my hands on the game, which was recently dated and priced at July 17 for 800 Microsoft Points (the PSN version will come shortly thereafter), I feel confident in saying that I was totally right the first time around. Moreso, the delight I experienced the first time I played the game was only expounded by the arrival a few new anachronistic combatants.

I really like the Sonic Colors artwork that hit the most recent issue of Nintendo Power. Nice and clean, Sonic with a bit of an attitude, and an overall image that makes me think fun. Thankfully, that’s the experience I had when I played Sonic Colors at E3!

When it was first announced we were less than enthused about the Battlestar Galactica series being developed into a free-to-play browser-based MMO. Although we're still scratching our heads at the direction the license-holder's decided to go in, what we saw of the "still in development" title has calmed our nerves. Slightly.

It only took me a few minutes into my E3 appointment with High Voltage Software -- a company I am admittedly not too familiar with -- to understand the inspirations behind the PS3 and Wii versions of the studio's upcoming project, The Grinder. I didn't pay too much attention to the game when it was announced as a first-person shooter for the Wii. Imagine my surprise when I learned that, on the other two platforms, it's actually a current-gen iteration of one of my favorite games from the generation past -- one I spent countless nights during my high school career playing with three friends, occasionally from start to finish in a single, rapturous sitting.

"You know what game this really reminds me of," I stated to the game's on-hand developers. "Hunter: The Reckoning."

"Yeah," one of them replied, "we made that game."

"Oh? Awesome."
