If you're less concerned with form and function as you are with frugality, you'll be pleased to know that the release of the slimmer, blacker 360 model has led to the fairly substantial discounting of older, chubbier versions of the console. Both Amazon and Best Buy have marked the Arcade model down from $200 to $150, while the Elite model is down from $300 to $250.

MCV reports that UK retailers are beginning to drop the price on their Arcades and Elites in anticipation of the arrival of the Xbox 360 S. If you're looking for a cheap opportunity to grab a 360 -- or if you're just a purveyor of ancient technological artifacts -- you may want to grab these while they're hot.

Though Jerry Bruckheimer's latest opus, a film adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, wasn't received with commercial fanfare in the U.S. (it's only pulled in about $80 million domestically), it's fared far better overseas. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie's received worldwide earnings of $293 million, making it the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation to date.

The previous holder of this prestigious title was the original Tomb Raider film, which currently stands at $274 million worldwide. We're overjoyed that Prince of Persia managed to surpass this record -- mainly because, hey, it's about time someone took Jon Voight down a peg or two.

To celebrate tomorrow's release of Risk: Factions on XBLA -- something the board game aficionados at Joystiq HQ have been geeking out about for months -- EA has offered up a copy of Risk: Black Ops for this giveaway. Now, if you don't know, Risk: Black Ops is the most delicious and desired version of the board game ever created -- and it's never been available for retail purchase.

We're also hooking up our winner with two download codes for Risk: Factions, since it's best enjoyed with a friend -- or better: an enemy. To enter for your change to win, follow these simple rules:
  • Leave a comment with this oath: "Risk: Black Ops is beautiful and I promise to care for it, always."
  • You must be 13 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec).
  • Limit 1 entry per person.
  • This entry period ends at 3:00PM ET on Wednesday, June 22, 2010.
  • At that time, we will randomly select 1 winner to receive two download codes (via email) for Risk: Factions on XBLA (ARV $10 each; Xbox Live account required for download) and the Limited Edition Risk: Blacks Ops board game (no ARV; promotional item not for resale). Please check your emails!

There's an email thread from 2K's public relations in my inbox with the subject: "So you want to touch Civ V, huh?" It's an ongoing joke I've got with the company -- how can you get a grasp of the latest entry in the epic Civilization franchise without actually touching it? Every hands-off demonstration we've seen of the game so far looks great, but touching Civ, spending eight hours with it, is the only way to get a real idea of the game players are in for. With that said, here's some of the stuff we saw in the latest hands-off presentation during E3 2010.

Although the most diehard Civilization players refuse to acknowledge the console-based Civilization Revolution as a real entry in the franchise, Firaxis certainly took several lessons from the console game and quietly implemented them in Civ V. One such lesson is the user interface, designed by the same person who did Civ Rev's, that cuts or pushes everything it can to the sides of the screen, making the main screen the star, rather than a co-star to the menus.

DeathSpank, Monkey Island co-creator Ron Gilbert's homage to Diablo, has been fully loaded with laughs and is ready to make its debut on PSN July 13, arriving on Xbox Live Arcade the next day, July 14 (barring any temporal anomalies). We played the game a couple months back and were smitten with its charm, humor, loot and bacon.

What we didn't see back then was DeathSpank's cooperative mode. Since there can only be one DeathSpank (we don't think the world could handle two of him) player two will control his spell-casting sidekick, Sparkles the Wizard. We're sure Sparkles is just fine with his silly name, so long as he gets to tag along with the Hero to the Downtrodden.

DeathSpank will loot your wallet for $14.99 on PSN and 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) via the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Squad up for the Onslaught today -- if you're playing on a PS3. Battlefield: Bad Company 2's cooperative Onslaught mode has been "delayed" for Xbox Live, an EA representative has confirmed to Joystiq. The DLC will be available for $10 on PSN as soon as the weekly update occurs later today. We'll make sure to update if we receive any intel on a new date for the Xbox version -- or any date for the PC version, for that matter.

President Hamilton would like you to check out our hands-on before exchanging him for this new mode. We've also placed a new trailer for Onslaught after the break.
