Microsoft's suggestion for how to pass those hot summer afternoons: spend 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), repeatedly. The company released the official dates and prices for the XBLA games in this year's Summer of Arcade promotion -- or, rather, dates and price, since they all share the aforementioned 1200 MSP price tag.

Like last year's Summer of Arcade, purchasing all five games in this year's lineup entitles the buyer to a 1200-point rebate (essentially buy four, get one free). Additionally, if you buy three of the five, you'll get 400 MSP back! As for the release schedule:
  • Limbo: July 21
  • Hydro Thunder Hurricane: July 28
  • Castlevania: Harmony of Despair: August 4
  • Monday Night Combat: August 11
  • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: August 18

I’m taking this opportunity to throw my suggestion into the ring with Tetrisphere. If there were ever a version of Tetris that deserved to be remade for the 3DS, this is it. The game would work perfectly on the 3DS, and the 3D effect would actually enhance the experience by a great deal. [...]

Sega is planning a special edition of Black Leopard: Yakuza New Chapter, its PSP Yakuza spinoff. Actually, perhaps it's more accurate to say that Toshihiro Nagoshi is planning the special edition. The "Toshihiro Nagoshi Produce Premium Box" bears the producer's signature in gold on the front of the package, suggesting who the real star of the Yakuza games is.

Inside the Nagoshi-approved packaging is a crocodile skin (patterned) PSP case, a cleaning cloth, and a UMD of the theme song, "Muppet" by Rize. It'll be out in Japan, along with the normal disc and PSN releases, on September 22.

Patapon fans, rejoice! Today is finally here (today being Tuesday, July 6th). In a few hours — as soon as the PlayStation Store refreshes all its content — you’ll be able to download the much-anticipated bite-sized summer snack known as the Patapon 3 Multiplayer Demo.

Are you ready to play to your heart’s content? Are you already tapping your feet/toes/fingers in sweet rhythmic anticipation? Yeah you are…

So here are the contents of this hypnotically musical multiplayer adventure (insert mood music):

  • Ad-hoc and Infrastructure Multiplayer (1-8 players)
  • Co-op and Competitive (Capture the Flag) missions
  • Introduction of the New Super Hero Patapons
  • New Enemies
  • Intro to the Patapons’ new adventure

As mentioned before, this is a multiplayer demo, so you’ll need either an internet connection to fight along/against other players world-wide (that means around the world!) or four of your bestest local Patapon friends to enjoy this demo… and since it is free, there is no reason why your friends shouldn’t have a copy.

Last month, we were thankful that the torrent of games had slowed considerably. Now here in July, we ... well, could the games come back please? Sure we've got Dragon Quest IX and StarCraft 2, but pickings are, otherwise, fairly slim.

Maybe PSN and the Summer of Arcade will fill in the gaps? Here's hoping.

Oh, Halo: Reach? That old thing? It's been out, like, forever. You definitely shouldn't be paying full price for that ancient relic. Newegg's got you covered -- for a limited time, you can (pre)purchase Bungie's old-as-dirt shooter for $44.99. C'mon, gang -- do your part to preserve the classics.
