Wes Phillips and Sid Shuman discuss Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s new characters and gameplay tweaks at E3 2010.

Hello PlayStation Nation! This is a big weekend for fighting game fans, as the world’s best descend upon Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for the EVO 2010 World Fighting Finals this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Thousands of contestants from over 30 countries will battle it out for fame, glory and cash in Super Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and a couple non-Capcom games… Tekken 6 and Melty Blood: Actress Again.

Registration for the event is officially closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a piece of the action. If you can make the trip to Las Vegas, admission to watch the event is free.

We’ll also have the E3 build of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 available to play on PlayStation 3 for anyone who shows up! This will be the first time the game is playable for the general public.

Did I mention that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 just won Best Fighting Game at E3?

If that wasn’t enough, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer Ryota Niitsuma and Super Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono will both be on hand to greet the fans.

Can’t make the trip? Capcom and G4 have teamed up this year to bring the action into your home. G4TV.com will be streaming 45 hours of matches over three days, including the Super Street Fighter IV Grand Finals on Sunday night with special commentators Adam Sessler (G4’s X-Play) and Capcom’s fighting guru Seth Killian. (Big ups to the crew at Level Up for producing the stream.)

Also, during the live stream one lucky viewer will have the chance to win a limited-edition gold EVO fight stick furnished by the fine folks at Mad Catz.

It all culminates with a special episode of X-Play on Tuesday, July 20 at 6 p.m. PST entitled X-Play vs. Capcom: EVO 2010 World Fighting Finals. (Check your local listings.)

So much awesome to fit into one weekend, but I think you can handle it.

Aussie band The Vines is set to release DLC tracks for Rock Band next week. The DLC was outed early by Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog, pricing the track pack at 680 Microsoft Points, which normally means a five-song collection.

Specific details will be part of tomorrow's standard Rock Band Weekly post. Publisher MTV Games informs us that The Vines won't be alone, so we'll have more to share tomorrow.

It seems that 38 Studios' plan to detail its upcoming MMO in 2010 isn't happening just yet, but 38 Studios-owned Big Huge Games will apparently show off its first game under the new publisher at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. A listing among the legions of other presenters at Comic-Con was recently spotted by Big Download with the description, "World premiere of the first game from 38 Studios!" The listing goes on to say that folks in attendance will "be among the first in the world to see the video game debut from Curt Schilling's 38 Studios," more specifically adding that Todd McFarlane, executive creator of worlds R. A. Salvatore, lead designer Ken Rolston, and founder and chairman Curt Schilling will be debuting the game for folks.

Further, Comic-Con's site claims the panel will unveil more than just the first trailer, but also the project's actual name. And hey, if that's not enough, apparently you'll get a "limited-edition poster" just for showing up. Huzzah! The panel takes place at 1:15PM on Thursday, July 22, but we wouldn't suggest you start lining up just yet.

The official box art, and a new website, for the recently delayed Dead Rising 2 have shambled out. The website, TapeItOrDie.com, follows the exploits of four characters who will help you "discover exclusive content" in the zombocalypse sequel. The website is expected to update weekly, and looks like it'll be a great source for learning how to MacGyver new weapons in the game.

As for the box art, it shows protagonist Chuck Greene sporting the quite handy (for beheading) kayak paddle with duct-taped chainsaws -- if only Frank West had that for his cover shoot instead of a big old busted TV.

Finally, video games have a purpose.

I've been playing them for nearly three decades, and the number of applicable, real-world skills I've gleaned from them hovers right around zero. But now, after playing through the entirety of Nimble Strong on the iPhone, I have a working knowledge of cocktail making ... and a fancy certificate to prove it.

It's a clever idea, but a simple one: What if Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney really taught you the law ... and also was about drinking?
