The European version of Vanquish is no longer alone in having an official release date. Sega of America announced that Shinji Mikami's new shooter will ship to North American stores on October 19. Just in time for Halloween -- look out for the inevitable trend of homemade, spark-spewing robot suits at this year's parties.
Pre-ordering the game at GameStop will allow you to acquire a pack of three in-game guns: the Boost Machinegun, the Anti Armor Pistol and the Laser Cannon
(the same three being used for a pre-order promotion with the European release). Enjoy glamour shots of these weapons being fired at things and/or people in our gallery.

Echoing statements made by Sony's Phil Harrison a few months before the introduction of the Dual Shock 3 (specifically, that rumble was a "last-generation feature"), Microsoft's Kudo Tsunoda suggested that the lack of rumble from the Kinect camera wasn't a big deal, by suggesting that rumble isn't a big deal, in an interview with Edge.
"The overwhelming thing we've discovered is that rumble is such a rudimentary form of haptic feedback," he said. "It's not like a little rumble in your palm is your whole way of interacting with the world - it's not like, oh, I stubbed my toe and I get a little rumble in my palm." The audiovisual presentation of Kinect games, he said, does more to immerse people than rumble, as evidenced by the instinctive reactions he observed from players. "In many of the games we have, people will crash a vehicle and they'll go totally like this [mimes dodging out of the way]! And even people playing games with a controller, there's always people doing this [mimes driving motion]."
Tsunoda went on to sort of address the nagging question of lag. "The way we measure 'lag' is by putting people in front of the experience and measuring their thoughts. Either it feels good or it feels sloppy. It's not how many milliseconds, it's: 'Does it feel good? Does it react fast? Does it feel as if you're in control?'" So what is important isn't the amount of lag, but the perception of lag.

4mm Games went digging in the crates and pulled out some infectious tracks for the latest update to the Def Jam Rapstar roster. The seven additions, spanning nearly two decades, feature classics and more recent hits, from A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario" to Big Pun's "Still Not a Player" onto Ludacris' "Stand Up." But does it get any more buck wild than Onyx's "Slam?" (Warning: Backdafucup when that joint comes on.)
Additionally, 4mm Games has announced that the game's freestyle mode will feature "exclusive" instrumentals by producers Cool & Dre and DJ Khalil -- as if the main sing-along mode wasn't already designed to expose the living room MC who has no business in the rap game.
Check out the complete list of revealed tracks after the break.

Okay, it's definitely not a video game. However, Ubisoft's Battle Tag is a lot of fun. Basically, it's Ubisoft's game-inspired take on laser tag. Like in laser tag, you'll have to suit up. And yes, you'll have to aim for your opponents' vests. However, there's a good deal of customization you can take advantage of. The Battle Tag software makes it easy to register the guns and various "power-ups." (The software is currently PC-only, with the possibility of consoles and mobile later down the line.)
For example, if you want to get more ammo for your gun, you can place various ammo boxes throughout your environment. Tap the gun to the plastic ammo box, and your gun registers more ammo. Low on health? Do the same thing. There are specific "targets" you'll be able to place throughout the environment as well. Using the software, you'll be able to customize your own game type, while tweaking play time, player health, etc.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to properly test the range of the Battle Tag system at Ubisoft's press area. That's something we hope to rectify once Battle Tag ships later this year.
Proving that the original release was more "prototype" than "final," a downloadable expansion is in the works for eastasiasoft's PSN shmup, Söldner X 2: Final Prototype.

GameStop's "Borderlands GOTY Official Strategy Guide" listing would appear to be the unofficial harbinger of a "Game of the Year" edition for Gearbox's post-apocolyptic loot-whoring shooter, Borderlands. The book currently has a September 9, 2010, release date and we'd expect it to cover released DLC expansions "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx," "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot" and "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned."
Take-Two CEO Ben Feder did state earlier this year the publisher "will continue to support" the successful title with more DLC. We've contacted Gearbox and 2K Games for more information. We'll update if they send us a claptrap with more details.

505 Games and Russian developer Biart Studio have unveiled a new third-person shooter with a unique cover system: specifically, everything is covered with water. Most of the action in Deep Black takes place underwater, with players navigating the depths with "specialized underwater jet packs with integrated harpoons, mini submersibles and other high tech equipment." But it's not all swimmin' and shootin' -- 505 promises a storyline with "complex science-fiction mystery, espionage, and bio-terror."
Deep Black is expected to surface in Q1 2011, joining Naughty Bear and Backbreaker as part of 505 Games's growing PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 lineup. Biart Studio is no stranger to games set underwater, having recently released the PSP mini, Reef Aquarium.
