This one I’m a little less surprised to see, but I’d still like to know what they’ll be bringing to the big show. There’s always that very slim chance that something related to Black and White will be there! Thanks to Shiggie for the heads up.

We're going to try our very best to write this post about Brightside Games becoming its own studio -- and announcing Zeit2, its first commercial release for Xbox 360 and PC, due out later this year -- without making any "look on the bright side" jokes. That would just be silly.

Nope, we're not gonna note that the intrepid developers at Brightside must be elated to be walking on the greener pastures of employment after spending years toiling away at the Technical University of Berlin. No sir! And we certainly wouldn't point out that the studio's first game, a packaging of the developer's IGF entry, Zeit2, has already been signed by a "major global publisher" -- talk about the early bird catching the worm, eh?

Okay, okay, we're sorry. But hey, a ... news post in the hand is worth ... two in the ... something? Enough!

Reports have been floating around the 'net that Atari would be shutting off the servers for the first Test Drive: Unlimited game as early as January of 2011, presumably to make way for the open world racing game's sequel. But Atari tells Joystiq that the rumors are blatantly untrue -- "they are not dropping the servers at all," a representative told us this afternoon. The rep said that it's possible that French developer Eden Games may be moving the servers in some way, but anything like that would make no difference for players of the game at all.

So keep on driving, Test Drivers -- your virtual O'ahu isn't going anywhere.

According to Slide to Play, Aurora Feint has announced plans to bring its OpenFeint platform to Android devices. The platform made its name by creating an online social hub for iPhone gamers, allowing them to send instant messages, find other players and even find games (though it will soon face competition from Apple's own Game Center). The service will begin supporting Android later this summer, with Hudson Entertainment, Glu Mobile and Digital Chocolate all planning to support the launch.

Furthermore, Aurora Feint has announced that it has received a new capital investment from The9, a firm known primarily for operating several MMO products in China.

Diehard bi-wheel racing fans who participated in MotoGP 09/10's recent 2010 Season DLC were likely miffed by an unintended side effect of the update. Apparently, players who completed the game's 2009 Season couldn't access the new competitions or bikes without being kicked to the main menu. Even worse, upon returning to their 2009 careers, players would realize their precious motorcycles had mysteriously vanished into thin air.

Capcom recently apologized profusely on Eurogamer, stating, "we are aware of the problem and are working to deliver a solution to solve the issue as soon as possible." In the mean time, you might want to keep on living in the past. Sure, the bikes are a bit outdated, but at least they exist.

The future of Project Offset may look grim -- what with the team disbanded and its founders creating a new startup -- but it looks like the Offset Engine will live on. Red 5 Studios, which has been working on an MMO powered by the Offset Engine (concept art can be seen above) for the last several years, has informed Gamasutra that its project is still in the works, despite the Offset-related shenanigans at Intel. "While we are using a highly-modified version of the Project Offset engine," a representative said, "the closing of the Intel team does not impact our ability to complete our own project."

Very little is actually known about the project, though Red 5 itself was founded by former World of Warcraft team members. The studio ran into trouble earlier this year, reportedly laying off nearly 30 employees. Shortly thereafter, the majority stake of Red 5 was acquired by The9, the company once responsible for running World of Warcraft in China.
