The UK's first PC gaming magazine, PC Zone, will end its 17 year, 225 issue, run in September. Future Publishing is closing the magazine following a "strategic review," which probably had something to do with the magazine's sales of 11,000 copies a month.

Both the BBC and Guardian have full articles on the magazine's demise and legacy. In a statement, Future Publishing stated it will focus its efforts on "market leader" PC Gamer going forward, which has twice the circulation of PC Zone.

The typical “Summer Drought” will soon give way to a flood of holiday titles, and one of the first major titles we’ll get our hands on is Mafia II.

Now, as we creep closer to Mafia II’s August 24th release date, the extent of the game’s PlayStation-exclusive content is becoming clearer; this week, the Trophies for “Jimmy’s Vendetta” came to light, and it’s looking pretty extensive.

A few weeks ago, Mr. Sid Shuman had a few words with 2K Senior Producer Denby Grace about Mafia II’s gritty look and feel, its upcoming demo, and how differs from other games in the genre like GTA (hint: it’s *way* different).

Today I’ll be attending a Mafia II event where new content will be revealed, and I’ve got a few more minutes with the developers. We’ve asked our questions – now what do *you* want to know about Mafia II? Comment now, and we’ll have the answers for you on Tuesday.

Tired of Star Wars games being set on Tatooine? You'll be glad to hear, then, that the just released iPhone Star Wars game -- Star Wars: The Battle for Hoth -- takes place on the far snowier lands of Hoth. Okay, okay, you got us -- Hoth is actually in every single Star Wars game ever made. Fine. But did those games only cost $2.99, and were they meant to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back film release? Yeah, we didn't think so.

The game is said to be strategy-based and will have players strategically defending against oncoming waves of the Empire's worst for 15 levels (read: tower defense). In case the snow-laden planet hadn't already indicated as much to you, yes, there will be snowspeeders. Also, everyone's favorite giant walking war machines (AT-ATs, silly) will make an appearance. Remember: Use your tow cable on the legs!

Artist Roger Ibars wired one hundred different game controllers -- from the familiar to the obscure -- to travel alarm clocks, creating a series of wonderfully impractical devices. While we can't buy our own (it used to be possible to buy a similar device, but they're hard to find now), we can all enjoy the beautiful photographs Ibars took. It's a collection not only of his art, but of the collected works of game and peripheral companies over 30 years.

Ibars granted Joystiq (the natural home for art about joysticks) permission to share a selection of high-resolution images with you, which you can find in our gallery below. It's going to be really sad if Kinect makes controllers obsolete, because future galleries will just include blank spaces with tiny alarm clocks in the background.

Those of you eagerly awaiting Keiji Inafune's directorial debut in the awkwardly named Dead Rising movie, Zombrex Dead Rising Sun, will be able to get their fill of zombie drama (or "zomba") from August 4 on Xbox Live. Each week, two or three chunks of the short film will debut on Xbox. They'll be made available on DeadRisingSun.com a week later, with the exception of two episodes that will be shown on both places simultaneously.

We've listed the schedule after the break, because it's a lot easier to explain it that way. Bottom line: your entire August is now booked up with extremely brief movie dates. Right now, you can check out some new stills from the film in our gallery, and a trailer at DeadRisingSun.com.
