#clips When I wrote about that amazing Mario Kart board game last week and posted the video, a few of you said someone should make a little remote-control race track based on Nintendo's popular game. Damn you! More »

It's a toy. What the hell were you expecting.

I can tell you right now this would've entertained me when I was 5 just because of the novelty of it being Mario.

Sony has announced a partnership with upstart independent game label Codename that will see a variety of games from indie devs released on PlayStation Home, beginning with four revealed today that are due over "the course of the next several months."

The group includes Dueling Gentlemen from Odd Gentlemen, developer of the XBLA-exclusive Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, which, as its title suggests, will see Home inhabitants squaring off one-on-one in a classic battle of honor. The hook: Duels will take place live on stage in Home's Central Plaza. Addiitonally, Lazy 8 Studios is bringing its unique 3D puzzler Cogs to Home as a Central Plaza spectacle, complete with multiplayer.

Super Awesome Mountain RPG -- a board game/RPG mash-up from Codename itself -- and Minor Battle, Peanut Gallery's Indiecade award-winning, team-based platformer round out what we here at Joystiq HQ are calling "The Most Excited We've Been About Home in Forever Collection." The official announcement is posted after the break.

A promotional game for the Scott Pilgrim movie that is directly inspired by Punch-Out!!. This game even has Punch-Out in the name. I wonder how Nintendo feels about an iPad game that hits that close to home.

Crackdown 2 just barely held off Dance on Broadway last week to maintain the top spot on the UK all formats chart for a second week in a row. According to Chart-Track, "Orb Collector 2" sales dropped 36 percent and only sold about 800 units more than Ubisoft's show tune-themed Just Dance successor (the original Just Dance retained a supporting role in the ten spot). Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Red Dead Redemption each slipped one spot to third and fourth, respectively. The lone new entry in the top ten was Disney's Toy Story 3 in fifth place.

In hardware sales, although Chart-Track didn't reveal specific numbers, the Xbox 360 Slim (or Short) enjoyed the UK's most successful launch for a "revised" console. The redesigned console surpassed the relaunches of both the PS2 and PS3 slim models and, in its opening weekend, matched the regional launch figures of the Pro and Core Xbox 360 SKUs from back in late 2005.

"Finally!" We have to imagine that's what millions of Canadians are shouting at the top of their lungs this morning, as Netflix announced plans to launch a streaming-only service in America's northern cousin sometime "this fall." That said, French Canadians take note: the service will only be launching in English, with a French option to follow "over time."

Will the service be heading to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii as it has in the US? According to the announcement, "Canadian Netflix members will be able to instantly watch a broad array of movies and TV episodes right on their TVs via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as watching on PCs and Macs."

A Netflix representative told Joystiq this morning, "We're not announcing the Netflix ready devices until the service launches, but it's fair to assume that several popular, brand name devices will be capable of streaming from Netflix to TVs at launch - in addition to the ability to watch instantly on computers -- and that we'll add to the family of devices over time."

While service doesn't launch until this fall, interested Canadians can head over to the Netflix Canada website right now and sign up for ongoing, (presumably) more specific notifications about when the streaming instantly will go live up north.

[Thanks, Chris D.]

When trying to work out the best way to describe Limbo, I keep coming back to Edvard Munch. I've always been fascinated with Munch, an artist most famous for painting The Scream. It's his other works, however, that tend to stick with me, particularly his Madonna. As a work of art, Munch's Madonna presents the viewer with seemingly disparate imagery, at once both alluring and disquieting. It's dark, a little disturbing, and yet it's also engaging and beautiful.

That's Limbo.

Well, it’s finally here! Gravity Crash Portable is being released on July 20th for $9.99.

During the development of the PSP version, we made some changes based on feedback to the PS3 version. Things that you guys asked for, and things that we felt needed to be looked at. To tantalise you in anticipation here’s a list of some of what has changed …

  • We’ve added a third ship. An anti-gravity ship. When playing, if you let go of the analog stick you will no longer plunge to your death.
  • We’ve increased the number of special weapon slots from 3 to 5.
  • We’ve added a lot more weapon pickups throughout the levels.
  • We’ve made the Primary Objectives more recognizable on the radar (via BIG FLASHING DOTS).
  • We originally used the old-school concept of three lives, then Game Over. We have now removed that; if you get Game Over, you can start from where you left off.
  • We completely re-wrote the “paint” aspect of the editor, to make it faster and cleverer in relation to holes.
  • We’ve added a new game mode, Survivor mode, where you have an ever-decreasing time limit, but an ever increasing difficulty level, in which to collect 10 gems.
  • We’ve also unlocked the hidden game Gold Grabber, which was only unlocked by completing the game on the PS3 version.

Despite the changes, the game retains the same frenetic gameplay as the PS3 version, perhaps more so due to the smaller screen size. What started off as a making a PSP version has turned into much more.

Of course sharing levels is still possible and it’s pretty simple actually, each custom level you create and save is given a unique folder name within the “\PSP\SAVEDATA\” folder of your memory stick, or PSPgo internal storage, like this “NPEG00020DATAxx” (xx is a number), simply copy that entire folder to your friend’s PSP and they’ll be able to play your level via the “Play User Levels” option.

I think I’m done! We’re incredibly proud of the PSP version and we really do hope you like it. If you have any questions then leave a comment below and I will do my best to reply as quickly as possible.
