Those planning on signing up for the Wii version of EA's FIFA 11 will find an exclusive game mode in the package: street soccer. It takes players to the streets of major cities around the world for less official games of footy, in places like Brazil, France and London. The mode will allow players to "use the wall to jump past defenders or bank passes to teammates" and select from a set of different match types, like First to Score, Tug of War and Timed games.

Not only that, but there will be a host of modifiers to choose from -- things like elevated nets, wall goals and even shrunken nets -- to mix things up further. Players can also select a specific arcade mode within street soccer, which adds a power meter that can be used to "blast shots, ignite a speed burst or send shockwaves over your opponents." It kinda sounds a lot like FIFA Jam, to be honest.

FIFA 11 launches on the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 4. Feel free to breakaway into our gallery below for some new screens, fresh off the bench.

Who says developer diaries have to give behind-the-scenes looks at specific games? Hothead's latest dev diary simply focuses on the rarely achieved art of making games funny. Apparently, it's a tricky blend of timing, creativity and John Ritter-fronted late '70s sitcoms.

Ubisoft has released a short teaser for the upcoming live-action short film based on Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (not to be confused with the live-action trailer for the game that released earlier this year). Entitled Ghost Recon: Alpha, it appears the short will focus primarily on soldiers murdering people in precise, futuristic ways.

The film, created by the same team behind the Oscar-winning Logorama, is set to debut in 2011, presumably sometime close to the launch of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

This is Victini, a very special Pokemon introduced for Pokemon Black and White. So special, in fact, that it occupies number 000 in the Pokedex. It's a "phantom Legendary" Pokemon.

Isn't it adorable? Doesn't it make you want to go to Japan in September, buy a copy of the game, and download it from a DS station or game retailer? Coincidentally, that's precisely how you acquire a Victini of your very own.

You'll probably be able to get one in the North American game after its spring 2011 launch, probably through a Toys R Us event or something like that, but do you really want to take that chance? Victini's just a plane ticket (and a couple of months) away.
Monocleton

I don't see why they just put it at the very end of the Isshu dex, it's obviously another Mew/Celebi/Jirachi/Manaphy. I swear on all things holy if they make its National Dex number 000 as well I'll personally bomb Game Freak. That number will always be reserved for Missingno.

Surely there are those within the Joystiq Biomass with the ability, locality or sheer resourcefulness to be in Japan from July 30 through August 1 to play test Metal Gear Arcade. This post is for you. Konami is staging location tests of the 3D, head-tracking, coin-operated Metal Gear Online adaptation at two gaming centers for those days only: Adores Shibuya (in, you guessed it, Shibuya) and Round One in Kahoku, Ishikawa Prefecture, about four hours west of Tokyo by train.

Those who make the trek (or are lucky enough to live nearby) will not only be rewarded with the opportunity to play the game and a newly implemented Mission Mode, but will receive 2,000 Reward Points that can be used towards unlocks in Metal Gear Online. All that and the chance to say you traveled 8,000-odd miles to play an arcade game. Yeah ... best to keep that accomplishment to yourself.

New York City playwright Leegrid Stevens, working with the Theater for New City and manager Danielle Karliner, will debut a new play titled "The Dudleys!" this August at the Joyce and Seward Johnson Theater. "What in the world does this have to do with games?" you may be asking your computer. First and foremost, it's straight up weird that you're speaking to a computer. More importantly, though, "The Dudleys" is a play about the thoughts and memories of a young man, conveyed through "a malfunctioning 8-bit video game." You see the connection now?

Apparently, the play will feature chiptune music created on Ataris, GameBoys, and Commodore 64s, and 8-bit art will back up the actors. More specifically, the play aims to juxtapose "the two dimensional side-scrolling world of fun and happy endings up against the confusion and aimlessness of real life." Well then! If you're interested in snagging tickets, they're available online for $15.

You know that swear jar you've been filling with money over the last week? Smash it. As it turns out, you won't need to keep saving until the release of Rockstar's planned three-book set for $450 -- the book's publisher, Distributed Art Publishers, has decided to cancel the project.

Speaking with Wired, book editor Eva Prinz revealed that, though the unbelievably expensive art books are no longer being worked on, a "completely new project about the British videogame developer" is already underway. The contents of the new project have yet to be announced, but we're really hoping that the new items don't receive a similar price point -- there's no way we could repair this swear jar!

The recently teased free content expansion for Star Trek Online, titled "Season Two: Ancient Enemies," launched earlier today, bringing with it an increased level and rank cap, new ships and missions, a series of new episodes specifically geared towards the Klingon faction, and more. As with the last STO season, the new stuff doesn't stop coming after today's update -- five new "episodes" (aka missions) will debut every week starting in August. Click past the jump to see all the new features present in the update.

If you're intrigued by Cryptic's habit of giving away its expansions and you've yet to invest in Star Trek Online, the studio's made it that much easier for you to do so by lowering the price of the game to $20. Why, with all the money you'd be saving, you'd certainly be doing an enviable amount of prospering. Though, we're not sure what the secret to "living long" is. Fish oil? We bet it has something to do with fish oil.
