Visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, whose cinematic opuses include Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy films, recently told MTV Multiplayer that the "next few weeks" would bring about the announcement of his first foray into game development. Del Toro, who has long been an outspoken fan of gaming, explained he's partnering with a "big company" and is planning to "do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting."

Given del Toro's unique cinematic and storytelling style, we'd love to see what he could do behind the helm of an interactive project. We're thinking it's either going to be a twisted, fairy tale-esque story with haunting visuals and thought-provoking mature themes, or a game about throwing sports equipment at towers of Jenga blocks.

We know there are a lot of choices on Apple's iPhone App Store. When we told you about the Joystiq app, you may have thought to yourself, "What can Joystiq offer me in an app that mobile Safari can't bring me?" Or maybe you thought, "There's no way I'm deleting Tilt to Live to make room for the Joystiq app." And look, those are both great questions. So we put this video together to show you what the Joystiq app has to offer.

If you've already downloaded the app, here's the part where we once again ask you to rate or review the app on iTunes. If you're not sure how to do that, we show you at the beginning of the video. In short: go here, select "View in iTunes," scroll down just below the screenshots, click on a star rating, and that's it. Done!

Video game industry analysts' ears perked up yesterday following the release of Blizzard's super anticipated RTS, StarCraft 2 -- sensing a need for the skills of their vocation, these analysts began firing off their predictions for how the game would sell through the end of the year. According to Gamespot, Signal Hill's Tom Greenwald suggests that "5-6 million units this year are highly achievable," while Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian predicts the game to sell 4.5 million units through September and 6.5 million units by the end of 2010.

Speaking to USA Today, Morgan Wedbush guru Michael Pachter gave his prediction: five million copies within the next two to three months. Using our own comprehension of the gaming industry, as well as a few tricks we've picked up from The Price is Right, we've got our own predictions: Five million and one by October, six-and-a-half million and one by the end of the year. Oh, yeah. That spot on the Showcase Showdown is ours for sure.

Everyone’s favorite massive multiplayer first-person shooter, MAG, is unleashing yet another awesome personal space into the ever-evolving world of PlayStation Home — and just in time for the Zipper Interactive’s v1.07 update! Come Thursday, July 29th, soldiers from the Raven faction will be able to assemble their clans and plan the next course of attack in PlayStation Home’s new Raven personal space. Releasing alongside a slew of Raven furniture items, the Raven personal space is a strategic outpost situated in the heart of the jungle — dedicated to Raven Industries military operations — and a true must-have addition to any member of what is inarguably the most technologically advanced private military corporation’s repertoire.

In other news, the PlayStation Home Community Theater will be receiving a huge update this Thursday, with the next edition of PS Nation’s wildly popular (and PlayStation Home-exclusive) videocast. Serving to bring players closer to their favorite gaming websites, blogs, podcasts, videocasts (and other media outlets) while further uniting the enormous audience under the shared interest of the best PlayStation games, the PlayStation Home Community Theater has been a huge success since we launched last month.

We caught up with PS Nation head honcho Glenn Percival earlier this week to chat about the newest addition to PlayStation Home’s Community Theater, and this is what he had to say:

We are very excited to bring you the next episode of our exclusive PlayStation Home Community Theater videocast! This time around we are featuring highlights from E3 2010, the awesome PSP version of Gravity Crash (don’t miss our interview with Stewart Gilray in our Episode 173 podcast), and show that, even in stick-form, Joel is just irresistible to all. Judging by the latest batch of download stats for our PS Nation Podcast, some of you apparently enjoyed our first video (they’ve increased almost 5 times since our first episode aired in PlayStation Home! Thank You!)

Finally, the PlayStation Home Mall will receive an update this week. Check out the Latest Update tab in your Menu Pad (simply press Start > Community > Latest Update) for a full list of new content. Personally, I think the new Lockwood Wings, available in the Sodium store this Thursday, are going to be a hit — but as always, it is your feedback that drives the development of all content in PlayStation Home. So be sure to head to the PlayStation Home General forum to let us know what you think about all the new content after you’ve given it a try.

You know that Dragon Age: Origins DLC, "Golems of Amgarrak," we just played at Comic-Con? You'll be playing it soon yourself -- on Tuesday, August 10, to be exact, for PS3, 360 and PC. (Unless, that is, you don't like Dragon Age, in which case we can't be friends anymore. Kidding!)

BioWare's, er, bio on its new 'ware -- which is meant for seasoned adventurers -- tells of a backstory involving a "missing dwarven expedition" and "ancient secrets for creating monstrous constructs." How this is all that different from most normal people's days escapes us, but at least we can look forward to fighting an "all-new terrifying creature!" (Spoiler alert: it's probably a golem.)

Much like the other Activision-published current-gen wargamez that preceded it, Call of Duty: Black Ops will make an appearance on DS. The handheld game will arrive alongside all other versions of the title on November 9 and is being cared for by the professional portable porters at n-Space -- the same studio called to handle all the other DS Duties.

Black Ops
DS iteration will see the return of six-man multiplayer matches, which will adopt the unlockable "Perks" from the home console versions of the franchise. Now you can complain about how cheap Commando Pro is ... on the go!

Check out a few teeny-tiny screenshots of the game in the gallery below.
