A portion of a Nintendo Life review…
While its components are far more fun and appealing than previous iterations in the DSiWare Petz series, there are just too few of them and too many issues along the way in the game’s often imprecise controls and confusing design mechanics. We can recommend this for a very young [...]
Remember that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta for PS3 that Jack Tretton dropped news of at this year's E3? You've only got a little bit over a month to get ready for it, as Ubisoft announced a September 13 date for the beta's release. The only way to get access to the beta in North America (for now, at least) is by pre-ordering the game at your local GameStop.
Odder yet, there are apparently only a limited number of slots available in the beta, so tokens will be doled out to customers on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you already pre-ordered, you can bring your receipt to a GameStop starting on August 9 for entry. No details are given for beta entry if you live on, say, any other continent in the world, but you can be sure we've asked Ubisoft for more info.
- setting is Ruli Island
- Ruli Island sits in the continent’s only known harbor
- abundant in resources
- prospers economically
- Ruli City is in the center of Ruli Island
- Ruli City is the home of Elza and the other main characters
- features large roads and plazas, and a maze-like structure with many small pathways
- a group [...]

Would-be Kinect Indie Game developers out there should prepare for some bad news. Speaking to Digital Spy, a Microsoft spokesman stated that currently "only developers with established contracts with Microsoft" are allowed to develop projects for Kinect. Only those developers that Microsoft has "partnered with for the launch" will release Kinect games at first.
That's not to say that budding XNA developers will never get their hands on the Kinect. The spokesman acknowledged that Microsoft would "consider" the possibility for the future, though he added that "no plans can be confirmed at this time."
Here's hoping Indie devs get Kinect support sooner rather than later. The creative possibilities are definitely there and, besides, where else would we get Kinect-enabled fart simulators now that support for Fable 3 has been delayed?

I spent about 45 minutes playing Civilization 5 at a press event in late June. Anyone who's played a Civilization title should immediately recognize that 45 minutes isn't enough time to conquer diddly. If Civ is anything it's time intensive, and its entries require numerous hours of experimentation before their subtle nuances become apparent.
I broke up my preview into two parts: spending about half an hour building up Caesar and company from the "Dawn of Man" scenario and the rest of the time playing as a highly advanced version of the same empire. Where to begin? Oh, right: It's Civilization. It plays like Civilization.
That's a glowing compliment for most games, but I found myself questioning whether Civ 5 was deserving of the bold new number: How's it so different from Civ 4? "There's always ideas you can bring back to that deep strategy setting on the PC, and I really don't think it's marketing speak to say, 'There's always something new that you want to try,'" Firaxis marketing associate Pete Murray offered. "There's always something you can take to that fundamental formula and change it, and say, 'Okay, what can we do that's new and exciting with combat? What can we do that's new and exciting with culture? Diplomacy?'"
While I generally agree that there's always room for improvement and innovation when iterating, my short time with Civilization 5 left me with the initial impression that this game hasn't changed that much.

THQ is shrinking the giant men of the UFC down to fit into a handheld system. The publisher announced a PSP version of UFC Undisputed 2010, entering the retail Octagon on September 7. Perhaps what the game needed to hit sales targets was another version.
The portable UFC includes "an unparalleled roster" of over 100 fighters, as well as the option to create your own, with customizable movesets. The PSP release also includes support for Ad-Hoc mode for local multiplayer fightin'. This will cause much less property damage than meeting your friends at Starbucks for a couple of real mixed martial arts matches.
