Peter Molyneux echoed statements made by Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg about Milo and Kate's status as a game in an interview with the Game Hunters. Molyneux said that "I don't think of it as a released product at the moment. I still think this is a very, very big tech demo. I don't think of it as something that would be a boxed product on the shelf."

He did say that players would actually get a chance to interact with something based on Milo, despite one major hurdle. "There's a lot of huge mountains to climb before that happens," Molyneux said. "The reason for that is it is enormously contentious for us to do a game, a story, an experience, about a boy. You are immediately appealing to all the dark thoughts of humanity." (We totally weren't going there!) Molyneux sees this taboo as a challenge, citing Up, a film "about an old man and a Boy Scout" as a successful transcending of this taboo that we didn't really think about in the first place.

The fact that Molyneux is in such a drawing-board stage gives us a clue as to why we can't expect to see it this holiday season.

It might look like the same game on the surface, but the first trailer for the Xbox Live Arcade version Plants vs. Zombies reveals a few of the new features in the upcoming port. We already knew about co-op and versus multiplayer, but did you know you can also deck out your house and visit your neighbors? Considering how many zombies are on the lawn, running to the neighbor is bound to come in handy. Check out new screens below and find the trailer after the break.

Codemasters has officially unveiled Operation Flashpoint: Red River, the followup to 2009's Dragon Rising, for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. While "Red River" doesn't sound nearly as exciting as "Dragon Rising," perhaps the very fact that there's more Flashpoint on the way is exciting to those disappointed by the end of Dragon Rising DLC. There's also the promise of new cooperative modes and new classes.

The press release also details the setting for the new shooter: "a deadly new battlefield set in the remote yet beautiful country of Tajikistan along the Vakhsh River." Guess we're going to have to make that military shooter about the escalation of the OU/Texas football rivalry ourselves.

To see more Red River, check out GameSpot's interview and impressions, and see concept art in our gallery.

I imagine that there are plenty of people out there without air conditioning in their house/apartment/dorm. Those poor people have been suffering some rather sweaty days, trying their best to stay cool with burst from a mist fan, an ice pop and an oscillating fan. When that kind of cool-down approach won’t work, [...]

According to the tweets of Ubisoft community developer Kimi Matsuzaki, ex-Ubisoft creative director Clint Hocking has taken a job in some capacity with LucasArts. Though Hocking has yet to note as much in public (we checked his personal blog, his LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook pages), he did announce that he was leaving Ubisoft Montreal back in May.

It also appears that Hocking has left his former home of Montreal for San Francisco, as indicated by a slew of tweets on the subject. Okay, okay ... you're right -- we're starting to feel kind of creepy about this. We've reached out to both Hocking and LucasArts for more details on his new job and will let you know, directly from the source, as soon as we know more.

Like that good-for-nothing kid who won't leave the house and get a job, Quake Live - id Software's mostly free-to-play browser-based FPS - is moving on. Granted, having been announced three years ago this month and only being playable to the public since last February, Quake Live is a little ... mature for its age. But id just revealed via parent company Bethesda's blog (that's still weird, isn't it?) that Quake Live "has officially exited beta."

While that beta tag may have meant things weren't always rock-solid on the stability front, it also meant things were totally free on the "how do I pay for this" front. While the 'Standard' version is, and will remain, free-to-play, id is introducing two new tiers of for-pay play:
  • The premium subscription, which will run you $24 each year, nabs you 20 "Premium-only" maps, a combination of all-new and classic Quake maps; a "freeze tag" game mode; the ability to "create your own clan and join up to five separate clans"; and more.
  • The pro subscription will run you $48 each year, will nab you all of the premium features along with "the ability to start your own game server, specify a server location, determine the game mode and invite who you want to join you"; and the generous ability to invite three friends with free memberships to join you in any premium-level map.
For most players, we imagine the free option will be more than enough to satisfy any quick rail-gunning urges. If not, well, you've got your choice of alternatives. One final alternative for that rail-gunning urge: the somehow-still-not-out Quake Arena Arcade. We've put a line into Bethesda on that one.

Who you gonna call? Your friends, to tell them they'd best hit Amazon straight away if they've shown any interest in Atari's Ghostbusters for PS3, Wii or Xbox 360. For today only, all three versions are on sale for $14.99. Tomorrow they'll be back up to $20. Louis Tully would advise against waiting.
