Here’s this week’s PlayStation Store Digital Comics update.

4882884048_cf2a3b54af.jpg

DC Comics release the first two issues of one of my favorite comics series Y: The Last Man. If you’ve not heard about it the premise is simple. A mysterious plague has killed every man (and beast) on earth except Yorick Brown and his pet monkey. Now this may sound like a good thing for Yorick, as it’ll be up to him to repopulate the human race, but the world he wakes up to is a confused & dangerous. There are even some women who call themselves the Amazons claiming that nature wiped out the oppressive men so that the fairer sex could take over the world. Brian K. Vaughan (Runaways) has really created a thought provoking series and I highly recommend.

DC also brings you a free copy of Safe Inside (Zuda) and we start a new series of Green Lantern: No Fear.

From Marvel this week we have all 5 issues of Venom: Dark Origin in which we discover the true twisted roots that gave rise to a lifetime of malevolence for Eddie Brock.

We also see the first issue of a book that follows the exploits of a gun-wielding monkey assassin. The simian witnesses the destruction of his tribe at the hands of a bunch of armed men. With no family and no home, the only thing left for him to do was avenge his fallen brothers. “And thus the legend was born. A killer of killers, forever to be known… as Hit-Monkey”

Finally don’t miss the 3rd issue of Eternal Descent From IDW. Here’s the full list of new arrivals for the week.

Going by a rating handed down by Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (shouldn't it add "games" to its name at this point?), Hungarian dev ZEN Studios is readying a sequel to Pinball FX, the first and only pinball game for Xbox Live Arcade. The classification dated August 10, 2010, lists Microsoft as the publisher. Combine that with the fact that disc-based pinball titles are pretty much nonexistent at this point and, well, it's called Pinball FX 2, we'd say it's a pretty safe bet that the game is bound for XBLA.

The original Pinball FX hit Xbox 360 all the way back in 2007, but has seen regular updates in the form of new themed tables, the most recent of which landed in the Xbox Marketplace on January 27 of this year. We may not know anything solid on this sequel (apart from the fact that it's apparently suitable for all ages) but we have some hopes for it, the biggest being that those who own the original be able to use the tables they've bought in the new game, without having to buy them again. If not, we may have to paddle someone.

We've contacted Microsoft for comment on the classification and will update as soon as we hear back.

Our dear friend Scott Pilgrim makes his temporarily exclusive appearance on the PlayStation Store this week, joined by a demo for Mafia 2 and an early access sale on PixelJunk Racers: 2nd Lap for PlayStation Plus subscribers. There's also new content for Red Dead Redemption and Dragon Age: Origins. That should be more than enough to keep you busy for at least 48 hours, provided you're not some sort of game-beating robot.

Kicking off first thing tomorrow morning, visitors to the PlayStation Move event space will automatically be granted a unique PlayStation Move controller outfit that will serve as your key to access the full event experience. Don your outfit, grab three of your friends, and commence the team challenge: Coordinate with your team to earn new versions of the controller outfit (denoted by the color variants) until you unlock the ultimate prize, a PlayStation Move outfit complete with the iconic fully animated multi-colored orb. Also available within the space is a limited-edition multi-color PlayStation Move controller outfit that is packed with all-new emotes for your avatar!

Week two of the Empire Strikes Back 30th anniversary celebration continues with more Star Wars costumes – including the Boba Fett Mandalorian outfit (along with Han Solo and Luke Skywalker costumes). While you are in-world eating up all that special Star Wars content, be sure to visit the Central Plaza kiosk and pick up the Yoda Ears (available for free for one week only) and, of course, head to the recently-released Star Wars Cantina and experience one of the franchise’s most famous scenes PlayStation Home-style.

Paramount Digital Entertainment has just announced that Top Gun – the video game based on the 80’s iconic hypersonic film – will be making its debut on PlayStation Network on Tuesday, August 17. It’s a free-flying combat shooter featuring Maverick, Iceman & the rest of the Top Gun fliers, scripted with new dialogue and combat scenarios by the film’s screenwriter, Jack Epps, Jr., and features two single player & five multiplayer modes (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Top Gun, Bombing Run & Capture the Flag).

And that’s not all – on Monday, August 16th, at 5:00pm PDT (8:00pm EST), Top Gun screenwriter Jack Epps Jr. will be on-hand in Central Plaza to celebrate and chat with you, the PlayStation Home community! To participate, simply wear your new Top Gun avatar t-shirt, available when you watch the exciting new game trailer in the PlayStation Home Theater this Thursday, August 12th.

Also releasing this week into the wide world of PlayStation Home is a brand-new game for your personal space (Solitaire), a host of art (Patient Zero, Vlad the Impaler, and Blackbeard artwork from our friends at LOOT! and Sideshow Collectibles), clothing and furniture items from the soon-to-be-released Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days (download the demo now from the PlayStation Network), the new Ocean Bubble aquarium, clocks (courtesy of Mass Media), and the hilarious new “Sneak Attack” items (free “traps” that you can place in your personal space that can be used to trick your friends – upgrade these with sound banks that change the gags and also come with special virtual items).

See you in Home!

Dive: The Medes Islands Secret (available on WiiWare for 1,000 Wii Points) makes a wonderful first impression. As I slowly, deliberately explored the seas around Spain for lost treasure, I was taken by both the lovely visuals and the meditative gameplay. Over time, though, those lovely visuals got repetitive and meditation turned to old-fashioned boredom. Dive wore out its welcome pretty quickly, especially disappointing considering how short it is.
