APB developer Realtime Worlds may be laying off the entire Project: MyWorld team, according to reports from VG247 and Develop, with sources also alleging the dissolution of RTW entirely. One source apparently told VG247 that "The MyWorld team has been completely laid off. As many as 60 may have gone, but there's a rumor they may be trying to sell the team as a smaller entity." VG247 also alleges that "the Scottish developer is seeking to sell on APB entirely."

In early July, RTW announced forthcoming "redundancies" at its Dundee studio, specifically referencing a "second, unannounced project" -- now known to be Project: MyWorld. In a statement offered to Joystiq this morning, RTW echoed that earlier announcement: "Further to the press release issued on the 7th July announcing the post-launch restructure for APB and expected redundancies, the 30-day consultation period with the affected staff has ended. The supporting infrastructure for a game inevitably changes once released, and those staff that couldn't be redeployed to new projects in the Art, Audio, Coding, Design, Production, and QA departments have regrettably been made redundant. APB continues to be our primary development focus, and we remain fully committed to the game and its players." No specific numbers were given.

Realtime Worlds refused to comment on rumors of a full-studio closure or the possibility of APB being sold off. If you're an employee of RTW with more information, we'd love to hear from you.

We learned during EA's investors briefing that the super-pretty, skyscraper-toppling FPS Crysis 2 had been pushed from its initial holiday release window, and would instead arrive during the first quarter (January to March) of 2011. The game's new release date was recently pinpointed by the official Crysis 2 Twitter account: March 22, 2011 for North America, and March 25 for Europe. Or, in other words, just about as late in the first quarter as it could possibly arrive.

Joining this announcement was the release of the first screenshot depicting the game's multiplayer component, posted above. Though it's hard to extrapolate much from the single image, it looks like everyone's going to be wearing bulletproof armor, which should make your standard deathmatch a rather lengthy affair.

Fans of the previous pre-rendered trailer will be happy to hear that, yes, you can punch through a wall and snap a dude's neck.

People of Tropico, it is I, Juanito! It appears that El Presidente is ready to simulate his next revolución, as he has ordered Haemimont Games, creators of Tropico 3, to make him another sequel. Tropico 4 has been announced for PC, but publisher Kalypso Games hints at a "possible console version" -- the previous installment was released on Xbox 360. The banana republic simulator is currently scheduled for a calendar Q2 2011 release.

Tropico 4 will have a new campaign with 20 missions on 10 new maps, 20 "new buildings" and a whole sweatshop-produced mess of other features, including Facebook and Twitter integration.

Tropico 3
was a very competent game that recaptured the spirit of the original. If the fourth installment can streamline some of the more unruly micromanagement and flow issues of the last game, Haemimont Games could have one of the best strategy sims in years on its coconut-oiled hands.

Bungie dropped its Weekly Update on Halo: Reach a little early this week, which is probably a good thing because there's a lot to take in. First and foremost, the update lists nearly every item available in Forge -- including their cost -- allowing budding map designers a chance to start their planning phase a little early. There's also a bunch of new graphical filters to choose from, including the nifty "Pen & Ink" filter seen above.

If that's not enough for you, the update also details the return of Race mode (now with landmines!), assassination animations (there are over 40 in Reach) and details how you can win one of the Noble Team statues displayed at E3. Check out a behind the scenes video on the creation of said statues after the break.
