We have tremendous plans for our “ever-changing global war” that is MAG — and we’re starting with PlayStation Move!

4904467021_1c2789730a.jpg

That’s right, later this Autumn MAG will offer full compatibility with the PlayStation Move! This added support means that users have another way to experience the most ambitious first-person shooter out there. Pinpoint accuracy and easy access to all of the game’s mechanics ensure that players of any type — be they hardened veterans or new recruits — can enjoy a shooting experience unlike any other.

But PlayStation Move support isn’t all we’re working on. Because our upcoming content is so important to the game and its future, we want your assistance to make sure we get it right! With that notion in mind we’re pleased to announce that, one week from today on August 24, we’re inviting existing MAG owners to take part in the all-new MAG Beta program!

What are you going to play and test, you ask? How does this hit you?

  • Escalation Game Type — battle it out with all three factions at once on three never-before-seen maps
  • New Weapons — each PMC has access to three new guns (9 total) for added firepower
  • Clan Deploy — a highly-requested community feature that allows clan leaders to launch games with up to 128 clan members in a single match
  • Updated Skill Tree — enjoy more customization than you’ve ever had before with new skills and an improved progression system
  • In-game Economy System — earn “credit points” by completing objectives and killing enemies to purchase new weapons and gear
  • Additional Character Slots — Create a persona for Raven, Valor and SVER on one account for maximum testing flexibility

To participate in the new MAG beta, all you have to do is download the client software from the PlayStation Store when it becomes available next week, insert your MAG disc into the PlayStation 3, sign-in to the beta client and… BOOM! You’re good to go. Reminder: You must have the MAG disc in your PS3 in order for the new beta client to work.

Amazingly, today’s announcement only scratches the surface of what’s planned for MAG’s future. That’s why we’re updating the Official MAG Blog constantly over the next few weeks with new and more detailed information of what you can look forward to, including a post today that explores, in detail, the complexities of our new Escalation game mode. We’re even holding a special edition of our popular Zipline Podcast this Friday that will answer your questions about our future plans with special guest, Zipper Game Director, Seth Luisi (if you have a question for the podcast, post it here)!

As always, the entire team at Zipper Interactive would like to thank you, our fans, for your feedback, loyalty and enthusiasm. Your continued support is what makes MAG what it is today, and it’s what inspires us to keep striving to make it better.

After a pretty beefy, Scott Pilgrim-infused update last Wednesday, this week's European PSN update's looking a little bare-boned. There's a demo for NHL 11 and H.A.W.X. 2, a new Marvel Costume Kit for LittleBigPlanet, and on the slightly less-playable side, there's a metric ton of trailers from Gamescom. We know videos aren't as fun as games, but if you'd like, you can twiddle your fingers around on a DualShock while watching them. It's just like the real thing!

Lionhead Studio creative lead Peter Molyneux gave a TED talk last month featuring a whole mess of information about his team's "very big tech demo," Milo & Kate. Milo squashed snails and discovered the garden of his freshly minted New England property -- it was nothing short of moving.

Now, through the magic of the internet, Molyneux's TED presentation is available for all to see (just after the break). Learn why snails are replaced with butterflies when you're playing with Kate and how that whole "hive mind" thing works -- no two Milos or Kates are the same, Molyneux claims. Also, you won't want to miss what happens just beyond the 10-minute mark. Check it out.

Who is Catherine? She appears to be the subject of a newly announced game from Atlus. Revealed in this week's Famitsu, Catherine is the first HD project from the Persona team, and it's going to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The tale follows Vincent, a troubled insomniac plagued by nightmares involving a never-ending staircase. According to Siliconera, this action/adventure horror tale is "intended for adults."

Katsura Hashino, the director of Persona 4, is helming the project, which is currently scheduled for a Winter 2010 release in Japan.

The Dead Space 2 Gamescom 2010 trailer may not have any Necromorphs lurking about, but that doesn't make it any less terrifying. Oh sure, it's just Isaac rocketing into space and subsequently avoiding various detritus, but take a second to think about it. One misstep and you fly off into the inky blackness forever, helpless to stop the inertia. Okay, he does have rocket boots, but we're afraid of space, okay?
