Hi everyone! A minor update to your PS3 system is now available via system software update v3.42 that includes additional security features. For more details and instructions on how to update the system software for the PS3 system, please visit the PS3 System Updates page.

Well, that didn't take long. Sony has just pushed out a firmware update for the PlayStation 3, with users reporting that it "breaks" devices like the PSJailbreak. More »
Another month, yet another PS3 firmware update. Little over one month since 3.41 (and two months since 3.40) comes yet another mandatory update for your PS3. Firmware 3.42 seemingly doesn't add any functionality to your system beyond the usual "system software stability," but it is required if you want to continue accessing the PlayStation Network or the PlayStation Store.
While unverified, this update may be a response to a recently-released jailbreak tool, which supposedly enables piracy on Sony's once-bulletproof system. We'll update this story if Sony provides any additional details on what this firmware does exactly.

Microsoft's Kinect doesn't need a controller. That's the whole point of the thing! Still, a controller-free gaming experience is a hard idea to get your head around, which perhaps explains why Peter Molyneux and Rare asked Microsoft to include one. More »
The movie may have flopped at the box office, but the game has risen almighty on the PlayStation Network. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game makes its debut as the best-selling game on the PSN in August. Mushroom Wars comes in at number two, undoubtedly helped by PlayStation Plus members.

Is your mouth open? If it's closed, watch out, because Nintendo's next console will make you all slack jawed. But relax, we're a few years off. Go ahead, shut your yapper. More »
We've already established that the Xbox 360's Kinect can handle a seated person when the application supports it. But what about a grinning, highly combustible bug-eyed being and his entourage of faceless scientists? You may be surprised by the answer -- and how closely this resembles an actual Lady Gaga music video.

Google's Android platform has a cute little robot logo, but what's this? The inspiration behind it is not, as I first thought, Metal Mickey, but is actually a Gauntlet game? More »
Not only is the WiiWare title Swords and Soldiers coming to PSN, but Ronimo Games has also commanded it to attack the PC. The 2D real-time strategy combat title will offer up all of the levels and features of the other versions, but will offer mouse control and include Steam Achievements as well.
No release date nor pricing has been announced, but we're assured all of that is coming soon. We're going to call this one good news -- Swords and Soldiers was a good addition to the Wii's downloadable lineup, and it'll be nice to let a bigger audience get a good look at this original title.
What's up now, Comic-Con? PAX really brought it this year in terms of cosplay. There were street fighters, Spartans, zombies playing Rock Band and quite possibly the best Tali and Garrus we've ever seen (above). Hit up the gallery below and check 'em all out!

For all its cult appeal, people sometimes forget why the Virtual Boy failed: because it sucked, and worse, because it caused us physical pain. It's time to get one back on the cruel little hndheld, by ripping its guts out. More »

So you weren't at PAX last weekend, and didn't play Duke Nukem Forever? Well, then you probably agree with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford when he says that a playable demo for the mythical title is probably "an important thing to do." That's not a confirmation but, now that the cat's out of the bag, the company will start investigating ways to effectively market the game. Putting a demo in the hands of a skeptical audience is a good start, if PAX is any indication.
If you missed it, you might still think of Duke Nukem Forever as vaporware, and remain convinced that Gearbox told PAX attendees that "it would be really funny" if they all pretended the game was playable. Wouldn't it be nice to lay your extremely paranoid fears to rest?
A portion of a G4 review…
While actually having play time with the game will make this a more enjoyable listen, game music fans (and soundtrack listeners in general) who haven’t journeyed into the world of Monster Hunter 3(Tri) should also enjoy this album for all of its fantastic qualities.

To be as forthright as possible, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was not on my radar when it was announced last year. Apart from a handful of pretty screens, it subsequently managed to slip by me in the madness of the 2010 summer trade show season. Having now spent several hours with the first half of the game, it's impossible to think I could have missed it. Based on what I've played so far, Enslaved deserves a spot on everyone's radar, offering polished gameplay, interesting characters and a gorgeous world to explore.
It may be a holiday here in the US, but the show must go on! This isn't a traditional episode -- instead, we're just talking PAX Prime 2010, answering some questions from Twitter and addressing some fanmail. We're trying to keep it casual, you know, so pull up a chair, grab a frosty beverage and kick it with your X3F buddies below. Enjoy!
Oh, and we'd like to thank @_misterd_ for releasing the butterflies in the wonderful chop above.
