With veteran racing game developer Bizarre Creations at the helm of James Bond 007: Blood Stone, you might think there would be a heavy emphasis on driving in the next Bond adventure. Not so -- only about 20 percent of the game is played behind a steering wheel, Activision associate producer Michael O'Donnell told me during a recent preview event for the game. Most of Blood Stone is devoted to cover-based shooting and stealthy takedowns.

"This is the Bond event, if you will, of the year," O'Donnell proclaimed, perhaps as a friendly challenge to his Activision colleagues developing the GoldenEye remake (also due out this year). O'Donnell's words were backed up by the highly polished build of the game on hand at the event. I wasn't permitted to play the first area of the demo -- a jungle infiltration mission where Bond must gain entry to a massive base on the side of a steep cliff -- but I was almost grateful because, damn, there was a lot to just see.

One thing that hurt sales of the first Dead Space was its lack of multiplayer. EA had to add something to Dead Space 2, and last week I got at taste of that multiplayer. It's a 4-on-4 objective-based mode where four engineers team up to locate pieces of a bomb and bring it back to a central location. Once the bomb is detonated, a door out of the level is revealed and the human players can escape. The other side is the Necromorphs, whose only goal is to kill the humans.

After revealing the Super Mario Collection Special Pack on its release calendar, Nintendo of Japan has officially announced the title and opened a website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of everyone's favorite mustachioed plumber. As speculated previously, the pack includes a port of Super Mario All-Stars, a booklet about the history of the Mario series and a CD, which contains Mario music ranging from the original Super Mario Bros. to this summer's Super Mario Galaxy 2. The website also shows off plenty of celebratory Club Nintendo swag.

Super Mario Collection will be released in Japan on October 21 for ¥2,500 ($30). No announcement has been made regarding a North American version of the collection, though it seems like a no-brainer given how successful recent Mario titles have been. Check out a video of the collection after the break.
