Ray Bracey has a knack for naming things. First, there's his nigh-cubist Xbox Live Indie hockey game Blockey (get it?); then there's his game's URL, simply http://blockey.isgreat.org. It's direct, and we like that. Oh, and have we mentioned his development team is called Walking-Talking Grilling Bear Studios?

In this latest edition of the Indie Pitch, we talk with Ray about the origins of his game and his design career, though not about his facility for naming stuff. Shame on us.

What's your game called, and what's it about?
The game is called Blockey. It is a 2-vs-2 hockey game with goalies and lots of block-men hitting other block-men. It was designed to be retro: simple and fun. I made it using XNA for release on Xbox Live Indie Games.

Choice has been a crucial and critically acclaimed component of games benefiting from Warren Spector's involvement, and this November's Disney Epic Mickey is no exception. It pervades the entire industry, an optimistic Spector believes, telling VideoGamer that the diversity on offer, both for consumers and developers, puts us in a "great place."

"Actually, I think that this is kind of a Golden Age," Spector said in a Gamescom interview. "I can make a Wii-exclusive game featuring Mickey Mouse. Someone else can make an all-original $100m MMO. I've got friends who are literally working alone on indie games that have no prospect of profit or commercial success. I've got guys working on iPhone games." Spector noted that a widening audience and abundance of platforms makes it easier to find a fit. "There's something for everyone, which means there's something for every developer to do that's meaningful for them, that will ignite their passion."

And while Spector admitted to not quite getting social games, he wouldn't succumb to the unfortunate tendency to cast judgment on their audience. "Gaming is in a very special place right now and we should be reveling in it, enjoying the parts that we love and letting other people enjoy the parts that they love. The more people who game, the better for everyone." If anybody should be pleased to hear an even-handed, inclusive opinion on today's multifaceted gaming, it's those Farmville weirdos.

It's a relatively quiet week for the PSN update ... unless you count the explosions from all-out wormy warfare in Worms 2 Armageddon. The first downloadable PlayStation Move game, Tumble, also makes it debut alongside demos for Move titles Racquet Sports and EyePet.

There are also discounts this week on Monkey Island Special Edition 2: Lechuck's Revenge and Mega Man 9. So, all in all, a pretty good week for downloadable titles. Check out the full update after the break.

Activision is taking a risk with its GoldenEye 007 remake for Wii. Legal precautions aside (Microsoft and Rare still have rights to the original game), GoldenEye for N64, or simply "Bond," is a beloved, iconic console FPS. So, to re-imagine this game on the Wii, Activision risks both tarnishing us old-timers' fond memories and further alienating a newer generation that wonders, "What's the big deal?"

At a recent preview event, I checked out two levels of the new GoldenEye and spoke with Activision brand manager Eric Stielman. "We thought, if we're going to bring it back, we need to have a commitment to authenticity; and the original game was on Nintendo -- we wanted to be on Nintendo again," Stielman told me, when asked why Activision had focused its remake solely on the Wii (a DS version will also be released). "If you look at the Wii, it's very much about people together, in the same room, having fun, playing games together. It all added up to us getting the exclusive, and Nintendo has been a big help every step of the way."

I mean, it's so good, it puts Super Mario Bros. 3, Ocarina of Time, Half-Life 2, Final Fantasy VII, and Halo to shame. Skyward Sword is this game where you play as this guy who wears green, and his name is Link. He's badass 'cause he's got this sword and it's all motion-controlled n' shit. The swordplay is so badass it will have you creaming your pants and crying Niagara Falls.

Also he has this little beetle thing that you can send flying places n' shit. Best little beetle thing ever.

I give this game an 11/10. Game of the year of all years.

Paul W.S. Anderson's latest installment in the Resident Evil film franchise, subtitled Afterlife (or in most technologically-endowed theaters, Afterlife 3D), took home top honors in last weekend's box office ranking. What does this mean? Well, it means we're angry at a lot of America for not going to see Machete -- but, according to lead actress Milla Jovovich, it also means we can expect to see yet another movie chronicling Alice's beef with the Umbrella Corporation.

"This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide," Jovovich recently told New York magazine. "It's the biggest movie in the franchise. So we're definitely going to make another one." She goes on to ask that fans of the series send suggestions for the next film to her Twitter page, which also contains much needed, step-by-step instructions on how to properly pronounce her name. Thanks, Milla!
