Capcom's press event tonight contained a pleasant surprise: an all-new title from the Japanese developer, going by the name of Asura's Wrath. More »
Capcom apparently really liked Blue Castle Games' work on Dead Rising 2, as the publisher just revealed at TGS that it has purchased the Canadian developer. Keiji Inafune, Managing Corporate Officer of Capcom, said the publisher made the acquisition because the future of Capcom will require working with other developers on games that feel like they were made in Japan, but also have that Western je ne sais quoi.
Taking the stage after the announcement, Rob Barret, president/CEO of Blue Castle Games, said, "We take this responsibility very seriously. Capcom games have a certain flavor ... we don't just want to make amazing games, we want to make amazing Capcom games."
Phew, that's a relief. Good thing Capcom bought the company then, would have been awkward if Blue Castle wanted to make amazing Konami games.
CyberConnect2, creators of the .hack series and various Naruto games, is working on a new PS3/Xbox 360 game for Capcom. Asura's Wrath was announced a few minutes ago at Capcom's pre-TGS event. The game, which the director says involves "serialized drama," is an action title built in Unreal Engine 3.
Speaking of "unreal," he said that "What we're bringing to this game is a brand new style that will have you questioning whether or not you're even playing a game ... sometimes even we're confused if what we're making is a game." Gameplay footage revealed a character unconcerned with numerous sword wounds, destroying enemies with a giant sword of his own.
Shadows of the Damned, a new "psychological action thriller" from EA's Partners, Grasshopper Manufacture's Suda 51 and Platinum's Shinji Mikami was just announced at TGS -- and now its got a spiffy trailer. Check out the footage featuring the "hunter of demons," whose "wrath is your hell" after the break.

By some miracle, we made it to the Capcom event clear across Tokyo. No biggie. They're not letting press in yet - our casual entrance and brief observation of the rehearsal was met with several hurried PR handlers - but we thought we'd share this snap of the flower arrangement outside the venue: Capcom TGS 2010 and Epic Games Japan. With the news that Capcom is looking to western devs to handle its franchises, we're wondering if it somehow snagged one of gaming's highest profile developers. Or maybe it's just an Unreal Engine licensing thing. The press conference kicks off in about an hour, so check back!

We hate to be the ones to break it to you -- but those in-game advertisements that some of you aren't terribly big fans? Well, they're actually pretty effective at boring into your subconscious and making you want to buy Axe Body Spray or Snickers, or whatever. A recent Nielsen study of six EA Sports titles, including NHL 10 and NBA Live 09, found that in-game ads for Gatorade increased household dollars spent on said beverage by 24 percent.
For more information on how the study was conducted, you can check out Nielsen's press release. We'd normally take the time to summarize that process in this very post, but we've suddenly been struck by the strangest, most powerful urge to go out and just start slamming some sports drinks.
