No More Heroes and Killer 7 auteur Suda 51 is a busy, busy boy this TGS. During the Microsoft Press Conference the Grasshopper Manufacture head announced the studio is working on a Kinect game entitled Codename D. Mr. 51 stated that the game will not feature guns or swords but will be a core action game. The brief trailer showed a lot of things exploding and a Suda dose of weirdness. The game is scheduled for 2011.

Well, this is ... unexpected. The "Steel Battalion" franchise, perhaps best remembered for its 1,980-button controller, is coming to a platform that requires none. Microsoft has just announced that From Software will bring Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor to the 360 via Kinect. Well, technically, Microsoft just said the game will have "Kinect Enablement," so we guess there's still a chance you'll be able to play with a standard controller, we can't say for sure.

Now those of you who already own Steel Battalion controllers ... well, you're probably out of luck. Maybe a job for Ben Heck?

PaRappa the Rapper creator Masaya Matsuura's studio NanaOn-Sha is working on a Kinect game entitled Haunt. The "horrible" game was just announced during Microsoft's TGS press conference. All we know so far is that there's a spooky mansion, first-person flashlighting and cartoon ghosts. The game will arrive in 2011. We'll get more details up as soon as we can.

Take some of Silent Hill's nurses, and some of Saw's torture devices, and you might have yourself a Rise of Nightmares. Sega announced the brand new Kinect exclusive at Microsoft's Tokyo Game Show press conference with a teaser that was genuinely scary. "I knew I'd ... die here," the trailer says.

Thankfully, he won't die until 2011, when the game comes out.

Kinect isn't just about petting animals and playing sports games. The newly announced Project Draco from Grounding Inc. is about dragons, and it's Kinect-enabled. Yukio Futatsugi, creator of Phantom Dust and collaborator on Panzer Dragoon, revealed the game at Microsoft's TGS conference this year. "What I wanted to do most is to fly," Futatsugi explained to the audience.

Unfortunately, other than a few red dragons flying through the environment, not much else was shown. It's pegged with a 2011 date.

Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer just announced at the company's TGS press conference that Halo: Reach made $200 million on its first day at retail. We know that's not much of stretch for you all to imagine, but it seemed like an important factoid to grasp. Assuming all those copies were sold at the $60 MSRP, that's about 3.3 million units.

The twist this time is that instead of (legally distinct) simulacra of your favorite wrestlers, you'll be able to take to the mat with your Avatar. If you make a really big Avatar, do you have an advantage?

Mark Methenitis contributes Law of the Game on Joystiq ("LGJ"), a column on legal issues as they relate to video games:

A new decision out of the 9th Circuit court of appeals is potentially bad news for GameStop, eBay, gamers and pretty much anyone who buys software. The full decision in Vernor v. Autodesk is available here [PDF], but this column should provide a pretty good summary and analysis of the case, which deals primarily with a legal concept called the "first-sale doctrine." The doctrine, which falls under copyright law, is what allows libraries to lend books, DVDs, CDs, etc., and what allows for the concept of resale.

The first-sale doctrine was added to the Copyright Act of 1976 after being introduced in case law in 1908. In short, the doctrine lets you, as the purchaser of a legal copy of a book, movie, game, or other copyrighted work, resell or give away that legal copy to subsequent owners without permission from the copyright holder. It doesn't give you any rights to the work protected by the copyright, or the ability to otherwise violate the copyright by making copies of the work; it only removes the copyright holder's control over legal, physical copies of the work after they are first sold to a consumer. In other words, GameStop's business owes everything to this doctrine.
