Lend me your ears, PlayStation Readers; I have a story to tell thee.

It begins, as many such unnecessarily, inappropriately flowery ones do, on a cold winter’s eve. Okay, that’s probably not accurate. It was a casual conversation actually, one with your very own, very awesome Jeff Rubenstein. He thought, rightly so, that the awesomeness that is 3D Dot Game Heroes would be even greater if other awesomeness — say, the mighty Sackboy — were to be added to its already more-than-sufficient awesomeness.

It was a recipe for potentially cataclysmic awesomeness. And thanks to the little seed Mr. Rubenstein lovingly planted, a tree was born. A tree of awesome. Sackboy awesome. Well, and other stuff.

For you see, PlayStation Readers, today we launched a patch for our retro action-adventure 3D Dot Game Heroes, the ultimate throwback to the 8- and 16-bit eras of gaming. The patch adds 50 fan- and staff-created heroes, the ability to carry over certain swords to New Game+, and adjustments to the completion times for the Dash Circuit mini game. In addition, a bug fix restores previously absent loading art images so they will randomly appear and be viewable in the Loading Art Gallery.

And of course, the aforementioned inclusion of the lovable Sackboy from Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet for PS3, courtesy of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Few games convey the notion of “creation” and “customization” better than LittleBigPlanet, so what better way to bring more attention to 3D Dot Game Heroes and its powerful character creation tool than to throw one of the gaming’s most popular mascots into the Kingdom of Dotnia?

Fired up your copy of 3DDGH recently, Readers? Or maybe you’ve been on the fence for the past few months (how painful)? Well, hopefully you have fewer/no excuses left!

3D Dot Game Heroes is on sale now for PS3 system wherever fine video games are sold. For more info, visit the official game website.

Anxious to beef up your iOS device's game library? Capcom's slashed the price on eight of its games, offering each for $.99 this weekend only. Here's the list:
  • Resident Evil 4 (previously $4.99)
  • 1942: First Strike (previously $1.99)
  • Mega Man II (previously $2.99)
  • Dark Void Zero (previously $2.99)
  • Cash Cab (previously $4.99)
  • Cash Cab: Las Vegas (previously $1.99)
  • Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? 2010 (previously $1.99)
  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2010 (previously $1.99)
If we had to suggest one, we'd have to go with Dark Void Zero, but if you're looking to maximize the savings, you can't go wrong with Resident Evil 4. Happy bargain hunting!

Imagine it: You're at a Hard Rock Cafe, maybe the one in Pittsburgh (since you don't have the t-shirt yet). You sit there, casually eating your Tupelo Chicken Tenders, when suddenly, you glance up at the wall and see ... those familiar five colored buttons. Yes, Hard Rock has gone plastic, as the UK's biggest Kiss fan, Kevin Curtis (pictured with tongue above), ushered a Gene Simmons-signed Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock guitar controller into the Hard Rock Cafe's "Hall of Fame." That's what they call their collection of "over 79,000 pieces of authentic music memorabilia" displayed around the walls in the ubiquitous chain restaurants.

We're torn -- Guitar Hero is great and all, but guitars should have strings and frets, not buttons and flippers. This is like Dylan going electric! Then again, this is the Hard Rock Cafe we're talking about. Maybe a plastic guitar signed by Gene Simmons in a box on the walls of a tourist trap is exactly where it belongs. Check out the full press release after the break.

Sure, you could play Final Fantasy XIV on PS3, if you like waiting. Or you could play it on PC with a (third-party PC controller based on a) PlayStation controller as soon as September 30. Sunflex, a third-party peripherals company, is releasing an officially licensed Final Fantasy XIV controller on that date, in Europe and the US, under its Snakebyte brand.

It bears a striking resemblance to the company's PS3 accessories, but in white -- and, more importantly, with the Final Fantasy XIV logo on it, so you know you're officially playing Final Fantasy XIV. Whether or not that officialness is an attractive enough quality to justify one of these is your call.
