“I remember calling it Developers May Cry, it looked that good.” God of War III’s game director Stig Asmussen confesses in the upcoming God of War Directors Live event, when asked about his art direction days on the original God of War. Devil May Cry; its headliner, Dante; and the entire DMC mythology have sprung installments on multiple consoles, comic books and an anime series. Dante is an iconic figure in the video game world, so imagine the reaction when Lead Producer Alex Jones and Chief Creative Director Tameem Antoniades were tapped to change everything we know about Devil May Cry and start from scratch. The result? DmC.

Clearly, Ninja Theory and Capcom were anticipating a strong reaction and fan skepticism, but after my conversation with the new DmC team, I grew more confident that Dante and the cast of DmC are in good hands. It’s daring, crazy and extremely challenging to change an 11-year-old franchise. But, if Christopher Nolan can do it with Batman Begins, maybe Ninja Theory can do the same for Devil May Cry. I’m sure you’ll agree when I say that I feverishly await more details behind the new DmC. Expect both Jones and Antoniades to visit the PlayStation.Blog in the future.

I like the new hair. There, I said it.

If you want to play Cave's Xbox 360 shmup Deathsmiles, but don't need a big box or a faceplate, you'll be able to pick it up cheaply next week. A listing on GameStop.com revealed a standard version of Deathsmiles, coming out for Xbox 360 on September 28 for $29.99.

A representative of Aksys Games confirmed the release to Joystiq, saying that "the Deathsmiles Standard Edition will be $29.99 at GameStop for now." If you buy this and then something falls on your Xbox 360, cracking your current faceplate ... be sure to tell us. We'll do our best to be sympathetic while marveling at this unlikely, ironic happenstance.

As bad as this sounds, I keep forgetting that this game is coming down the pipeline. I’m honestly not that interested in it. I’m sure it’ll have a few games that surprise me, though. Are you guys getting hyped up for this one?

Sorry UK gamers, you’re not going to get a banana pouch for preordering Donkey Kong Country Returns. Looks like North America will be the only location getting this bonus. No word on a different bonus for those that preorder in the UK, but things aren’t looking too good right now.

I don't know why I'd be surprised about a Level-5 game being fun. Aside from a few missteps, the company is one of the most consistently great developers in Japan, with the sales to prove it. And yet, I was only driven to try out the PSP game Danbol Senki when I noticed that it had no line at the Level-5 booth, and I was not at all expecting to be won over as I was.

LucasArts' free-to-play, lightsaber-brandishing title, Clone Wars Adventures, recently reached an impressive milestone with just a week of availability under its belt. According to the press release embedded after the jump, the kid-friendly Jedi simulator has already reached over one million users. To celebrate, players will receive a free Golden Mouse Droid -- in-game, that is. If those things existed in real life, we'd like to think we'd own a few already.

An in-game party will also be held today at 6 p.m. ET, and a far more exclusive event will be held in the Officer's Club at 7 p.m. for players who pony up the $5.99 per month for the game's additional features. You peons have fun at the early party -- we'll be rolling in style at that after-party. We hear Ja Rule is going to be there!
