Xbox Live Marketplace has gone assassin crazy today, throwing Assassin's Creed 2 onto Games on Demand and tossing a gondola-load of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood items onto the Avatar Marketplace. The game will run you $40, and the Avatar outfits aren't exactly cheap, weighing in at $5 each.

It's a big day for officially-sanctioned discounts on Sony games. First the new Greatest Hits, then the Uncharted 2 Game of the Year Edition, and now United Front's cheerful DIY kart game ModNation Racers. The publisher has announced a price drop for both the PS3 and PSP versions of Racers, to $40 and $20 respectively.

And if that's not exciting enough, Sony is also releasing a set of ModNation PSN avatars today! Wait, the price drop thing was much more exciting. We really should have led with that if we wanted to build up.

The Fable franchise has always prided itself on its clever, engrossing writing -- but even if the entirety of Fable 3's dialogue was written by baby rhesus monkeys, we're pretty sure the game's voice cast could make it sound incredible. The actors therein include seasoned VO veterans like Stephen Root and Zoe Wanamaker, as well as relative newcomers Simon Pegg and Sir Ben Kingsley, who totally has an Oscar.

Check out these master thespians' thoughts on Lionhead's upcoming action-RPG in the developer diary posted after the jump. Make sure you stick around for Root's inspiring advice at the end of the clip. Don't forget: Just be yourselves, friends.

Following up on a tip that GameFly had shifted the date for both console versions of Arcania: Gothic 4, we spoke to a representative for the publisher JoWood, who clarified the release schedule. The game is currently scheduled to launch on October 12 in North America (Oct. 15 in the UK) for Xbox 360 and PC. The PS3 version has been delayed until "early 2011."

A demo for Arcania is available now on Xbox Marketplace. Amazon, GameStop and Walmart currently have the PS3 version with a March 2011 release date.

[Thanks, Jason]

Like Batman: Arkham City before it, Resistance 3's possibly first, very convincing-looking screenshots were found on the Flickr account of user "1337guyzorz2." As seen in the gallery below, they're a melange of concept art and apparent in-engine screens, highlighted by screaming, murderous Chimera and a destroyed St. Louis.

Also seen are Resistance 2's Joseph Capelli and Nathan's sorta-sister Susan Farley, who will seemingly play key roles in the forthcoming game. It's clear from one screenshot that Capelli and a Chimera may be getting oddly ... intimate.

Neither Sony nor Insomniac got back to us on the authenticity of these images by the time of publishing.

Long time no see, everyone! It seems like only yesterday we were talking about the original Valkyria Chronicles, the Yakuza series, and the announcement of Valkyria Chronicles II for the west. Today, we’re proud to announce that our massive 22 Mission DLC Pack for Valkyria Chronicles II is going live this afternoon on the PlayStation Store, and you can pick it up at an awesome value of $4.99!

If you’ve been following our Community BLiTZ over on the SEGA blogs, we’ve been updating almost every day with free codes to unlock new characters and tank stickers in the game. Today, because we love you guys, we’ve teamed up with Jeff and the crew here at the PS. Blog to post our BLiTZ Finale exclusively here – and with it, four brand new codes for you to enjoy!

Many of these codes are exclusive to the western version of the game. You can find all four codes in the Lotte Insider’s linked here, and also below:

  • Free Code #1: After Burner Climax Tank Sticker: C9SAGP8M7PJ84H5S
  • Free Code #2: Resonance of Fate Tank Sticker: UJH5YB4Z7E33VCJT
  • Free Code #3: Nei (Phantasy Star II) Tank Sticker: 9H1FHVBV2YAZE3A1
  • Free Code #4: Unlockable Character Emelia (From Phantasy Star Portable:2), two new missions, and a Little Wing tank sticker: FSHL2DTP1EVB52AN

You can enter these codes in the Extras section from the title screen (under “Password”), and yes, they *are* case sensitive!

Those of you savvy about the Japanese release might have also noticed that instead of charging $1 or so per mission, as was the case there, we have bundled all 22 of today’s DLC missions together and then made the price about as awesome as possible, at $4.99 – a little thank you to everyone here in the west who did their part, and who continue to support the success of Valkyria Chronicles here in the US and across Europe. There are few to no communities greater than the Valkyria community in terms of massive support and dedication, in my eyes.

Thank you guys for making all of the hard work that each of our teams – from the developers in Japan all the way to our teams in the US and Europe – worth every ounce of effort.

For all of you who have been with us from the first day a little thing called the ‘Community BLiTZ’ began, to those of you who are just reading about this for the first time – thank you for sticking with us. If you’ve never experienced the glory of Valkyria Chronicles yet – and readers, back me up here in the comments if you agree – you owe it to yourself to check one of the PlayStation’s best exclusive franchises.

As the codes go out and the DLC finally goes live, we proclaim amidst the softening roar of tanks, the echoes of fading footsteps, and the settling dust, five words that for us contain both happiness and sadness:

The Community BLiTZ is complete!

Back in August, Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux teased that, while there wouldn't be a Pub Games-like companion game for Fable 3 on XBLA, something similar was in the works -- seemingly for mobile phones -- that we'd see in October. Well, that something would definitely appear to be Fable 3 Kingmaker, a "smartphone" game due on October 1. The title was revealed by the UK's Xbox World magazine and detailed by CVG.

"The battleground is your town, and your only weapon is your smartphone," according to Xbox World, which, when combined with statements like "plant virtual flags for the Royals or the Rebels" and "claim power-ups in locations throughout the United Kingdom" suggests that this will be a foursquare-style app based on checking in at different locations in the real world. "For every flag you plant, and every power up you claim, you shall earn gold coins, which you shall then be able to transfer into the Fable III game on your Xbox 360," the description reads.

Of course, this information is UK-centric, so we're checking with Microsoft's US PR to clarify release plans for North America. There's also the matter of what exactly a "smartphone" constitutes in this case, i.e., can we expect versions of the title for iOS, Android, etc.? An official site for Kingmaker has been launched, which, for now, simply contains some artwork and the October 1 date.
