So you're playing Monopoly and there's a pile of money sitting in the middle of the board collected from income taxes and Chance penalties. You roll the dice, count off your move, and then land on Free Parking. Payday! You get all of the money sitting in the middle of the table, right? Wrong. "That's not part of the official rules of Monopoly," says EA Salt Lake producer Jeff Peters. "One of the things we found while making this game is that nobody actually knows how to play Monopoly."

Turns out your older brother was lying to you. But not knowing how to play hasn't affected the game's popularity -- over its 75 years of life, Monopoly has become known as the most popular board game in the world, and Monopoly Streets is EA's attempt to reimagine the game in honor of the 75th anniversary this year. Instead of just a standard boardgame, Streets tries to create "a living, breathing place that is the world of Monopoly," says Peters.

Sega outlined part of its plans for Nintendo's new handheld during last night's press conference. During the next fiscal year (which runs until March 31, 2012), Sega plans to release six titles for the 3DS, only two of which have been detailed: Super Monkey Ball and ... something Sonic-flavored.

While the identity of the latter is still relatively up in the air, the spherical simian platformer has already gotten a bit of screen time. Sega Europe revealed a few key features of Super Monkey Ball 3D (working title), such as offering the player a choice between using the 3DS' touch pad or tilt controls to maneuver their monkey. The game will also have four-player wireless modes, such as Monkey Race and Monkey Fight, which we thought had been outlawed in most civilized territories of the world. Check out some screenshots from Super Monkey Ball 3D below.

Once again, the European PSN update includes more bacon than the pan can handle. There are demos for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, God of War: Ghost of Sparta and EA Sports MMA, along with the release of Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and a whole, whole bunch of DLC. That's a scientific unit of measurement, you know.

Pan's Labyrinth director and The Strain co-author Guillermo Del Toro has confirmed earlier reports that he's collaborating with THQ on high-profile video games. Speaking to MTV news, Del Toro said talks involved "huge games, huge world creation and long deadlines." How long, exactly?

"With THQ we're looking at around a three year developing deadline for each game," he said. Though it's unclear how many projects are encompassed by the deal, the director claimed each is being explored in a "serious" manner. "Expect the first game, best case scenario, 2013." You can also expect it to be a "Lovecraftian thing" and a "very different type of horror game."

Del Toro also recounted his experience with the cancelled "Sundown," one of several games that he had pitched in 2006. "It was eerily similar to Left 4 Dead, which I adore and am addicted to and that, in the household, is considered a 'family game.'"

Wait ... if that's a family game, can you imagine how scary this THQ collaboration will be? We were just going to go with a "Boo Blox" joke, you know?

As a fun exercise for the afternoon, you could try coming up with a canon-friendly explanation as to how nigh-mighty pirate Guybrush Threepwood -- spindly physique and all -- could become an inhabitant of the Star Wars universe. A bizarre curse wrought by the dreaded LeChuck? A mysterious inter-dimensional rift inside a mystical reef? LucasArts wizards looking to include a neat, unlockable skin in next month's action-packed sequel, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2?

No matter the nature of your narrative, you'll have to make up the specifics for now. According to a winking LucasArts representative, "we're going to keep how it's unlocked a secret." We suspect "secret" is right -- as in, have a Secret of Monkey Island or Monkey Island 2 save file nearby. If it's not that, it's probably destroying one hundred flooring inspector droids.

I couldn't help but ask Monkey Island designer (and new Double Fine employee) Ron Gilbert what he thought of Guybrush's journey across the universe. "'Hi, my name is Guybrush Threepwood and I want to be a Jedi.' That was the original opening line in Monkey Island but they made me change it to 'pirate' and I had replace all the Stormtroopers with buccaneers and the Millennium Falcon became a pirate ship. Nice to see it's come back full circle," Gilbert said via email.

"I first heard about this last night and I wasn't sure what to think of it, but now that it's settled in, I think it's very cool. It says a lot about the strength of Monkey Island and Guybrush in that he can go toe-to-toe with Star Wars."

Between its newfound focus on storytelling and its status as (gasp) the only Guitar Hero game out this calendar year, Warriors of Rock carried major promise to evolve the stubborn music franchise. Maybe you balked at the concept of a story-focused game featuring a cast of characters who have never spoken before, but at least storytelling represents a fairly unbeaten path in the increasingly beaten rhythm genre. (Well, fictional storytelling, anyway.)

However, you don't have to spend much time with Warriors of Rock to realize that what sounded like evolutions are actually ancient gameplay mechanics -- only shrouded in a campy heavy metal veneer.

Japanese DS fans face a critical choice: start saving for a 3DS to be able to buy one at launch, or buy one of the swanky Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary DSi LL systems announced last night. Nintendo has revealed an image of the system (above), along with a surprise: a 25th Anniversary DSi, also in red, and also with Mario graphics. That's going to make choosing even more difficult.

The DSi LL will be available in Japan on October 28 for 18,000 yen ($215). The DSi, featuring an adorable little Mario jumping over the camera, will be available the same day for 14,800 yen ($177) -- but only from 7-Eleven and its online shop.

Harmonix had previously hinted that DLC for Rock Band 3's "Pro" mode would a bit more expensive than the vanilla offerings because it required "a lot more work to do." Speaking with IGN, MTV Games' Paul DeGooyer clarified exactly how the pricing will differ for the upcoming sequel. He explained that "all DLC released for Rock Band 3 will be fully Rock Band 3-compatible, which means it'll come with Pro Mode for keyboard and drums, harmony mode, etc." However, Pro Mode for guitar will be sold separately. "If you're not interested in Pro Mode for guitar, you can still get the DLC that should conform to our current DLC pricing, and you get Pro Mode for all your other instruments."

The cost of Pro guitar will be $1, the interview reveals. "The alternative would be of course to include it (in the regular download) and up the price for everybody, which I don't think is really fair," DeGooyer argued. Additionally, he reveals that not all DLC tracks will even offer Pro notes for guitar, saying certain bands' "guitar parts wouldn't rise to the level that they would need to have pro mode authoring associated with them." Ouch.

There are plans to retrofit earlier DLC with Pro tracks, however DeGooyer was unable to clarify how the process would work. Apparently, the studio is having trouble making a system that "recognizes people who have already purchased" DLC in order to "be able to supply the updated file at a discount."

Hello out there! This is Teemu Maki-Patola from Virtual Air Guitar Company back to give you a quick update on all of our latest happenings over the last month. And what a month it’s been! For those of you that missed it, we gave not one, but TWO huge body-on sneak peeks for Kung-Fu LIVE at some of the biggest gaming events in the world. We went to gamescom and PAX Prime to let thousands of players on both sides of the pond step into the action of our game for the first time. We were able to meet up with our fellow ninjas Jeff ‘Air’ Rubenstein and Rey ‘The Fury’ Gutierrez at PAX to get them jumping, kicking, and firing lightning bolts at baddies like never before.

Both shows were a tremendous success for us. With thousands of fans getting a chance to see the game in person, we literally had to use a ‘ticket wheel’ system where players would take a number and wait for over an hour to be among the first to play the game for just three minutes! We apologize for the long wait, but we simply cannot thank everyone enough for sticking around to kick some ass and tell their friends about the game. Some were even excited enough to finish playing, then take another number and do it all over again!

It’s one thing to dress up as your favorite video game character, but it’s another thing to literally BE your favorite video game character inside of a video game. No, costumes aren’t required to play the game at all, but like we always say, they can DEFINITELY add some more fun to the experience. With avatar-free gameplay, you aren’t controlling characters that look like a ‘cute’ version of you – it literally IS YOU inside of the game!

With true 1:1 control of the moves of your in-game version and the ability for the camera to track your skeleton’s every movement, players can have fun ‘unlocking’ a limitless number of characters by letting their imaginations run wild. Some of our highlights, besides ‘Ghost’ from Call of Duty and ‘Jak’ from Jak and Daxter can be seen below, as well as on our Facebook photos page. PLENTY more to see there! Plus, don’t miss a full round-up of game play videos on our own website.

Ultimately, we just want to thank everyone again SO much for coming out to say Hi to us and for checking out our game. We’re still a small, independent studio here in Finland, and seeing so many of you get excited about our game is what’s helped us so much over the last few weeks as we rapidly approach the finish line. We’re still on track to be launching later this fall, and as soon as we have a launch date for PlayStation Network, we’ll be sure to let you all know as soon as we can.

With any luck, we’ll soon have more to share on our unique four-on-one multiplayer system very soon. Until then, thanks again for watching!
