You know how it goes -- they always offer the first fix for free. And then, when you need more, you have to pay up. A2M and 505 Games have employed this classic strategy for the release of a new piece of Naughty Bear DLC, dubbed "Chapter 9." The add-on is out today on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, but unlike the previous DLC release, it'll cost you: 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99, respectively.
Chapter 9 introduces the Island of Perfection, replete with "exclusive hidden treasures, deadly weapons and brutal buccaneers," and two boss bears for the cuddly curmudgeon to conquer: Admiral Giggles and The Great Bear Beard. The DLC also includes four new challenges. For avast look (see what we did there?) check out the trailer past the break and the images below.

To compensate for the stickiness of control pads and the low resolution of televisions, video games that involve shooting have long employed the use of automatic aiming. It's a luxury about to be enjoyed by real soldiers in the field. More »
Sega has discounted four of its iOS games on the US iTunes Store. We contacted the publisher for the specific end date of the sale and all it could offer was that the discounted prices will be in effect for "a limited time" -- frugal shoppers don't have much time to gorge on savings, we assume. Here's what's available (all are $1.99, previously $5.99): Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Super Monkey Ball and Phantasy Star II.
Oh, and because you'll inevitably ask: no, sorry, we don't have a launch price for Sonic 4: Episode 1 yet.

When a game from a big publisher sells 26,000 copies, it's a failure. But when an obscure Japanese role-playing game that's been localised by three fans sells 26,000 copies, it's enough to warm the darkest recesses of your heart. More »

Smart Bomb, the developer behind the surprisingly well-received XBLA/PSN title Snoopy Flying Ace, recently announced an upcoming collaboration with online games publisher UTV True Games. Did none of those words catch your attention? How about these: Free-to-play; flight combat; online multiplayer; Unity engine; pizza taco money. Okay, that last part has nothing to do with anything, but you're definitely paying attention now.
According to the announcement, Smart Bomb's next project is a browser-based dogfighting sim titled Sky Legends. Little is known about the game -- only that it will be built on the increasingly popular Unity engine, will feature multiplayer matches and customizable planes, and is due out in the first half of 2011. Keep an eye on the game's official site for future updates. Or this site! That works, too.

I'd like to play NBA Jam, but I don't really care for the NBA circa 2010. For me, the league's glory days were the early 1990s, so this list of the new game's unlockable characters makes for good reading. More »

I know I shouldn’t love this game, but I just can’t help it. The weirdness of the title just draws me in. Everything from gameplay to story, characters to design…it’s just so strange. This is one instance where I love a title simply because it’s so quirky.
Do you lack both the money for a Kinect and Dance Central, and shame? Harmonix and Truth have a Mephistophelian offer for you. Their "Killer Routine" contest asks fans to submit 10-30 second videos of themselves dancing to this clip of Salt-n-Pepa's "Push It." Those videos will then be posted, with the most popular video earning its creator a "House Party with a Dance Central choreographer" and Xbox/Dance Central/Kinect bundles for themselves and five friends.
"You must be participating in some recognizable form of dance for at least 75% of the video," the rules warn. If you are dancing for the whole time and you're disqualified for this rule ... that's going to sting. But if you're confident enough in your dancing to show the world, you have until November 25 to get up on this!
