We've been waiting three long years for Quake Arena Arcade, and just recently we started to make out a faint light at the end of the tunnel. Today, another bright spot has appeared, courtesy of the game's Twitter feed, in the form of this lengthy gameplay video.

We can't help but notice that there's something wrong with your Nintendo Entertainment System. No, it's not that its connector pins are totally jacked after two decades of rough cartridge insertion -- it's that it isn't covered, toe to tip, in the autographs of some of the gaming, tech and general nerd industry's most prominent figures.

You can rectify that problem by bidding on this NES, which has been signed by folks like Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, Wil Wheaton, MC Frontalot, Jonathan Coulton and many, many more. All the proceeds from the auction go to the Baystate Children's Hospital in Springfield, Mass. -- as do the proceeds from eBay user DanMckela's other auctions. Go take a look at his altruistic wares!

Are you guys ready to hear about what might just be the trendiest website in the entirety of the deep, vast internet? Take the immense popularity of Minecraft, throw in a fully-featured, Facebook-esque social network, and then, for good measure, tack on a completely unnecessary consonant to the end of its name. What do you get? Minecraftr, a social hub designed to connect players of the constructive online title, allowing them to create groups, plan events, establish servers and chat through IRC and forums.

Though Minecraft certainly has its share of strengths, finding amateur builders like yourself is something of a chore for new players. If it takes off, Minecraftr might be a great way to wiggle your way into a community -- and then take its grand, intricate creations apart one brick at a time.

[Thanks, Chris!]

Most of us grew up championing the banner of either Sega or Nintendo -- if you were JC, you had a TurboGrafx-16. Aligning with one or the other wasn't a choice made lightly, predicated on which games you thought looked the baddest and, of course, that pesky money issue. If you were a Sega person, you missed out on some sweet Nintendo games and vice versa.

Anyway, the point: HG101 posted a nine-minute video giving us a glimpse at how Super Metroid would've sounded if it was on the Sega Genesis, created by YouTube user Geckoyamori. Crank your speakers up to 11 and head past the break to give it a listen!

If you've ever wanted to feel what it's like to be one of the anonymous thugs in a Dynasty Warriors level, now's your chance. Aeria Games has launched a closed beta for Dynasty Warriors Online for North American and European players. You can experience the various co-op and competitive multiplayer modes, including 12-on-12 battles.

If you're eager to begin your life as a recruit (during which time we'd advise you to stay away from the hero-looking folk), you can still sign up for the beta at the official site. If you're not so eager, perhaps the trailer after the break will get your enlistment juices flowing.

11 bit studios, the company founded by CD Projekt and Metropolis Software vets, has announced its first project, an action-strategy game called Anomaly: Warzone Earth. The arcade-style RTS puts players in the role of a military convoy, fighting alien invaders as they arrive in Earth's cities. The announcement promises the game will let you "take part in battles personally" as you plan them in the traditional top-down RTS view.

Anomaly will be released in early 2011 on PC, iPhone and iPad. That should be plenty of time to change the title.

Remember Silent Hill: Past Life, the crossover comic planned for the upcoming Silent Hill title? Remember how the comic was supposed to feature one of the game's characters, despite the fact that the comic and the game take place over a hundred years apart? It appears that Hell Descent has uncovered the character in question, a possibly ethereal postmaster by the name of Howard Blackwood.

Blackwood appears in the first issue of the comic, while what appears to be the same character is also seen briefly in the Silent Hill E3 trailer (see him at 2:51 after the break). Whether Mr. Blackwood plays an immortal guide a la Richard Alpert, or the man in the trailer is merely the descendant of Blackwood, remains to be seen. Regardless, it seems like a neat inclusion, and we imagine Silent Hill's postmaster must have some idea of what's going on (whenever he's not delivering letters from dead loved ones, anyway).

Last year, Verizon started up a subscription-based gaming service for PC, and today the company has announced a new payment option, allowing users to purchase individual games to own. A free trial period is offered for most games, so potential purchasers are able to get a taste before deciding whether they want to own a particular title from Verizon's stable of over 1,800 titles.

Of course, the new option to buy doesn't affect the service's (now optional) monthly subscription plans, which will continue to allow users to play games for either $15, for access to all games, or $5, for access to 450 select titles.

2K Games has revealed quite a big list of fixes coming to Firaxis' stellar Civilization 5. The rather large update addresses several of the most common complaints, like those pesky game-crashing bugs, but goes deeper to fix other issues involving the AI, UI and gameplay.

The patch notes, which we've listed after the break, do not represent everything that's in the update. According to 2K, it's just what the developers have been working on for the "past couple weeks." There is currently no estimated time of arrival for the update, so there could still be plenty of more things addressed -- we certainly like what we see so far.
