You know how we're always saying how great it would be if someone could just make a modern, polygonal version of one of our favorite 2D classics, yet they seldom, if ever, turn out good? Well, Vanquish isn't a rebirth of any existing action franchise, but it is what a younger me dreamed a game like Contra would be like ... in the future. The work of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Platinum Games (Bayonetta), it brings the classic, run-and-gun feel of games like Konami's classic into the HD era with a plot that doesn't really matter, characters who spout ridiculous one-liners and -- oh yeah -- action that will have you on the edge of your seat from explosive start to thunderous finish.

The countdown to the debut of “The Tester” Season 2 is now underway with just two weeks to go until the Season Premiere on Tuesday, November 2nd. The new season promises to be bigger and bolder with more behind-the-scenes with the cast, bigger challenges, and, as many of you requested, longer episodes. For a taste of what’s to come, here’s the first-ever glimpse at the new season!

This trailer, in all its HD glory, is also available from PlayStation Store later today along with “The Tester” theme featuring the cast and panelists. You’ll find both in the “Media” section under “The Tester” icon.

And, next Tuesday, we’ll be releasing a Preview Show featuring hilarious casting submission outtakes and more about each cast member. Finally, you’ll also be able to follow “The Tester” on Facebook with the show’s new tab on the PlayStation Facebook page. The new tab will allow you to “Like” your favorite cast members and watch previews of each week’s new episode during the season.

Filed under: News, In The News, Weird But True, Opinions, New In Pop Culture During a recent press event, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood mission director Gaelec Simard disclosed to Joystiq that 40 percent of Assassin's Creed 2 players finished the game -- "which is huge," he added. The figure is up roughly 5 percent from the estimated 35 percent completion percentage of AC1 players on Xbox Live, who were tracked through their Achievements.

Ubisoft's AC2 data paints a more complete, cross-platform picture of the total player base's completion rate, as it was provided by the game's built-in Uplay service, which tracks gameplay statistics (in addition to providing a platform through which players can unlock in-game content). Still, players must have their consoles connected to the internet and must register Uplay accounts before the service begins tracking their data.

While 40 percent completion might seem low, especially for one of the best games of 2009, it's still significantly higher than the less than 30 percent rate of completion among a sampling of GTA IV players, as found in a study published by Gamasutra a year ago. "In the industry, the number of games that are finished is more like five to ten percent," Simard figured. "We all think people finish games, but when you start asking around, you'll find that a lot of people don't get to the end. We want the player to experience the whole package, so that's something we're trying to push."

We all have those friends that we see maybe once a year. We catch up, have a great time and depart, wondering why we meet so infrequently. During my first few hours with the single-player component of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, I couldn't help but feel like that. Since 2007, spending time with Assassin's Creed has been a mixture of expectancy and reassurance. It's a dependable companion.

And jumping into Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, that familiar feeling washed over me. This was primarily the same experience I've been enjoying the last few years. The game picks up right where Assassin's Creed 2 left us, showing the consequences of Ezio's actions during the finale. As it turns out, not killing that one prominent figure was a bad move -- hindsight being 20/2 and all that.

More importantly, NIS also revealed that Prinny 2 will feature a new, easier difficulty called "Baby," for people who thought the first Prinny game was too hard. In other words, people. How many other games give you 1,000 lives right from the start, knowing that won't help?
