EA is climbing to the top of the casual and iPhone game spaces -- by buying companies who are already at the top of those spaces. Reuters reports that EA is purchasing Chillingo, publisher of iOS hits like Cut the Rope (pictured), iDracula and (in the UK) Angry Birds.
EA confirmed the purchase to Reuters, but declined to confirm the reported $20 million buying price. Even if EA just grabs a few falling feathers -- solid golden feathers, of course -- from the hugely popular Angry Birds, the deal would be totally worth it, right? Besides, $20 million sounds like a steal compared to the $300 million (with another $100 million contingent on performance) EA splayed out for Playfish.

How much of Apple's 90-minute keynote today is about games? This keynote is all about their computers so... does a few seconds impress you? More »
During Apple's "Back to the Mac" press event (happening now!) Steve Jobs introduced the Mac App Store, a Mac OS X variant of the hugely successful iOS App Store seen on its iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad products. Like the portable counterpart, the Mac App Store offers an app clearinghouse ("the best place to discover apps," in Apple's words), one-click downloads, both free and paid apps (the paid apps will share the same 70/30 split the iOS App Store has), and automatic installation and app updates. Apps you purchase from the Mac App Store will be licensed for use on all your personal Macs - we imagine you'll be required to authenticate with your Apple ID on each system.
While the Mac App Store will be arriving with copies of OS X 10.7, dubbed "Lion," this summer, Jobs revealed that Apple would be releasing this feature early. "We don't want to wait for Lion," Jobs said. "We're going to put it out on Snow Leopard, and will open within 90 days."
For any game developers who want to get in on the desktop-oriented gold rush, Apple is accepting app submissions beginning in November. At least for now, there doesn't appear to be any reason to worry about the relatively "open" confines of Mac OS becoming any more iPad-like ... let's at least wait and see how this Mac App Store does first.
Manchester, UK - 20th October 2010 – Head First, the UK based advertising and design agency, is pleased to announce the App Store launch of Super Twario, its debut iPhone App which allows users to explore and interact with their Twitter accounts as a retro platform game.

Giant games publisher Electronic Arts who you know from playing Dead Space, The Sims, Madden, and so on is buying the publisher of Angry Birds, Chillingo, for $20 million, the LA Times reports. More »
Due to the PlayStation Network's update schedule, folks who bought Fallout: New Vegas for the PS3 may have experienced "error 80023156" while attempting to download bonus DLC yesterday. If you lost your cool and emailed us about, here's your answer.
Bethesda's Pete Hines explains, "That is the error you get when you try to enter a code too many times (unsuccessfully). Most likely because they were entering the code yesterday before the packs were live on PSN. The user just needs to wait 24 hours and enter it again. Once you download the content it will work with any existing save game."
The PSN needs to update on Tuesday before content becomes available. In the case of pre-order DLC bonuses for newly released games, it's best to wait until the update occurs on launch day and and then try using the code you received.
A portion of a Nintendo Life review…
At 1000 Points it’s pretty expensive, but for those of you who have children or younger siblings and are interested in finding a game you can play together, Miffy’s World is not a bad choice with its colourful art style and easy gameplay.
Super Meat Boy might be the highlight of this week's XBLA releases (you should read our review!), but that doesn't mean it's the only release. There are two others this week, including Double Fine's first foray into the downloadable space, Costume Quest, and Dream Chronicles ... which is a hidden object game. Check out a preview of each in the latest XBLA in Brief, and stay tuned for our upcoming review of Costume Quest.

Does the very thought of standing up, walking to your PlayStation 3 and inserting a Blu-ray disc incite utter, uncontrollable rage? In an effort to counter vengeful rampages against Sony's higher management, the publisher has announced a downloadable version of God of War Collection.
Set to arrive on Tuesday, November 2, alongside God of War: Ghost of Sparta, the PlayStation Network compilation will feature the remastered God of War and God of War 2 -- both running at a 720p native resolution at 60 frames per second -- but will not include any of the bonus content included on the Blu-ray release.
According to the European PlayStation Blog, the greek growl-a-thons will be sold separately for €18/£14 each, or as a bundle for €30/£24. That's quite a bit higher than the cost of the Blu-ray collection, and we hope the observation won't apply to the US price when it's announced. You have enough reasons to be angry as it is -- just look at how far away the remote control is today.
