A Brazilian court has apparently ordered that worldwide sales of Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City cease because a song in the game was used without consent. The Associated Press reports that the Third Civil Court in Barueri will fine Rockstar Games and Brazilian distributor Synergex $3,000 per day if the order isn't obeyed. The order was apparently issued on September 27 and can be appealed.

The song that Rockstar allegedly did not get the rights to is called "Bota o Dedinho pro Alto." Brazilian distributor Synergex claims it had not been notified of the court's decision. You can check out the song after the break.

Even if you've never touched a Halo game, you're likely familiar with the basic story. But as only the devout know, there's another, deeper fiction behind Bungie's baby that predates even the series itself. Today IGN encapsulates that daunting mythology in a new feature that's well worth a read.

Like the passing of a particularly nerdy kind of torch - maybe one built out of Lego Technics? - the era of "But can it run Doom?" is being replaced by the era of "But can someone on the internet make Portal with it?"

While we're not certain if it can run Doom yet - even money says it probably can - someone on the internet has used the now-in-beta LittleBigPlanet 2 to make a variation of Portal, replete with an Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device (aka: portal gun), a meme-required Weighted Companion Cube, and a meme-exhausted cake. Yup, it's all here folks, all you've got to bring is your weariness of Portal gags. Get your gape on with the video after the break.

The Witcher 2 has apparently been downgraded to a "potential" console release. Speaking with Eurogamer, senior producer Tomasz Gop said any "potential console release" wouldn't join the PC launch next March. Regarding the status of the console version, the representative merely offered a "no comment."

Following up with company spokesman Tom Ohle, he informed Joystiq: "We never did confirm a console release of [The Witcher 2]. The situation is still that we do want to bring the Witcher franchise to console gamers at some point, and we've buit an engine capable of console development... but have made no formal announcements of plans for a console release."

Although the game is looking mighty fancy on PC, we've yet to see The Witcher 2 running on any console. CD Projekt originally planned for the first Witcher to make its way to consoles, too, though that project was canceled reportedly due to financial issues.

There will be dozens of games to play on Windows Phone 7 when you pick up your device. But, only a select few will be branded as Xbox Live games. These games get spotlight placement in the Games Marketplace, and offer a key feature that other mobile platforms lack: Gamerscore. Like Xbox Live Arcade titles, each game can net you 200G, but at a fraction of the price.
In terms of quantity, Xbox Live definitely launches with a bang, with over a dozen games to choose from. But are any of these games good? What are the must-have games for your Windows Phone device? We take the arduous task of reviewing every single launch game. Ready?

It's been nearly a decade since Microsoft stepped foot into the console arena, successfully joining Nintendo and Sony to become one of "the big three." Since then, there have been numerous rumors of an "Xboy," or portable Xbox. With the impending release of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft is finally releasing a portable gaming platform, one branded with Xbox Live. But, does Windows Phone compete against not only Sony and Nintendo's handheld offerings, but the iPhone as well?

A few weeks ago, I received two Windows Phone devices, both on AT&T. Unlike Apple's iPhone, Windows Phone is not a single device. It's a platform, allowing phone manufacturers and carriers to offer some personalization. The HTC Surround, for example, comes with a sliding stereo surround speaker and the "HTC Hub." The Samsung Focus features a 4-inch AMOLED screen and weighs 110 grams (a quarter pound). While each device is different, there are a few tenants that must remain the same across the platform -- and Xbox Live is one of them.
