Reader Keyz grabbed himself one of the PDP’s Call of Duty: Black Ops headsets, and he seems quite pleased with the purchase. As you can see, you get a nice blue glow when you’re using it. The light will also glow red when you have your mic on mute. Now, if we [...]
I’m only posting this up because so many people sent it my way! Last we heard, King K. Rool was not going to be making a return appearance in Donkey Kong Country Returns. I know that quite a few people were upset to learn that, but now we have this pesky rumor to [...]
Can't remember the name Leucistic Wyvern? Try "that one Xbox Live Indie Game that looks suspiciously like Panzer Dragoon." Mukagosoftware Development's XBLIG rail shooter is reminiscent of Sega's classic not only in that it's about a dragon shooting multiple types of projectiles as it flies across the countryside -- but also in that it looks like a Saturn game.
The low-budget visuals (a staple of Mukagosoftware games; see Blaster and Morion and Sizonphase) result in savings that are passed on to the player. Leucistic Wyvern sells for just 80 Microsoft Points ($1). Check out a charmingly low-quality trailer (made by pointing a camera at a TV) after the break.

We heard a while back that Blizzard and its parent company have been considering digital distribution for World of Warcraft expansions ever since the first one, but it wasn't until this past weekend at BlizzCon that it was finally announced that the latest expansion, Cataclysm, will be available to buy on Blizzard's website, and playable right as the servers are turned on. Blizzard's Rob Pardo says the company's been moving in that direction for a while, and that "the day's coming" when Blizzard will release all of its PC games day-and-date with their retail versions. "Once we get a little closer to Diablo 3 we'll make a determination," he promised.
Meanwhile, the WoW community, as a group of people who already play MMOs online, is ready for the transition, says Pardo. "They are already able to handle very large pieces of data," he says, "so we felt that this is the best thing for the community, the opportunity to download and pre-order the game before we launch." It will be nice to have the game installed and ready to play as the servers go up -- even if they do drop right back down from all the players trying to use them.
After the success of the God of War Collection, Sony is going all in on the HD remakes, with re-tuned versions of the Sly Cooper, Ico, Medal of Honor and Oddworld games all coming out on the PS3. But fans of the original Halo, Blinx: The Time Sweeper and Voodoo Vince probably won't get to see their favorites in high definition -- Microsoft's Phil Spencer says the company isn't all that interested in remaking older games with HD graphics. "We obviously have a lot of new things going on," he said in an interview with IGN, "so the thought of re-doing a bunch of things is probably difficult to just weave into the overall portfolio."
Of course, he doesn't rule it out, saying that if releasing an HD collection could "provide real value to the customer, there could be possibilities for that." But it's too bad that he doesn't think any of the early Microsoft Game Studios titles deserve an HD remake right away. Not even Quantum Redshift, guys? Of course seeing that game running in full HD and hearing the Junkie XL soundtrack would be valuable!
