Over the weekend, a handful of tipsters sent Gran Turismo fansite GT Planet photos of what appeared to be retail versions of Gran Turismo 5. The photographic evidence began to pile up, and it seems that some gamer slash gearheads in Europe are already playing the game -- this is, of course, after the game was delayed to an unknown release date. Additionally, the game's entire Trophy list has been revealed, adding fuel to the fire.

At very least, this confirms GT5 director Kazunori Yamauchi's statement about discs for the game already being in production, though it doesn't put us any closer to knowing when exactly the game will finally arrive at retail. Will GT5 follow the path of the Sega Saturn and simply become available "right now," whenever the publisher deems it so? It certainly seems possible as of this report. But then, we all know how well that went for Sega's game console.

The Pokémon Company recently polled the hardcore players of its monster-collecting franchise to find out who's the most popular 'mon of all time. You'd think Pikachu, right? Like, that's a totally logical assumption, considering how much exposure that little yellow bastard has received over the years. Unfortunately, you're totally wrong -- first place went to Arceus, a legendary Pokémon first introduced in Diamond and Pearl.

Fellow legendaries Darkrai and Deoxys came in second and third place, respectively, followed by Pikachu in fourth and Meowth in fifth. As Siliconera points out, seeing as how the polls were conducted among hardcore players, the polls probably skewed towards the more powerful guys rather than the more recognizable guys, which is not the best metric for determining popularity. Like, we were clearly the buffest guys at our high school, but we were never elected prom king, you know?

What? Why are you laughing?
mariooooo

hardcore players more like kids ranging between 4 - 9

we all know shuckle is the best

Fallen Shade

We should have our own pokedicks popularity contest but split it up into catergories and then overall afterwords. It would be alot better than this shit.

The Flying Hamster is undoubtedly one of the cutest Minis available on the PlayStation Network, and one of the few that are worthwhile to play on the PS3, in addition to the PSP. We've written quite a bit about this indie shmup, and it finally has a North American release date and price: December 7, for $5.99. The game is already available on the European PlayStation Store.

For the uninitiated, The Flying Hamster plays like almost any other shmup: collect power-ups, and shoot at enemies using either a rapid or charge shot. What makes it so unique is its collection of power-ups and enemies: you can spit a stream of beer at cows, for example. Or launch a swarm of bees at ninja squirrels. Or drop some egg bombs on some evil toaster robots. Seriously.

Mod of the Week

Mod Name: Brain
Creator: omaxmilean

5149217599_9144e07ce3.jpg

I don’t think I ever want to be as smart as this Mod. His brain is spilling out the top of his dome, and the gaping mouth and googly eyes are quite freaking when I’m in a race and he looks over his shoulder. Good stuff. Weird….but good.

Kart of the Week

Kart Name: Breast Cancer Awareness
Creator: kilious1

5149824170_2b68f1fbd6.jpg

The paint job on this puppy is impressive, but the cause is even moreso. You can’t not appreciate this Kart.

Track of the Week

If you have a video(s) of your track submit them to ModNation Racer’s YouTube channel, email ModNation@Playstation.Sony.com, and we will include them in the blog post if your track is showcased.

Track Name: Elite Carnival
Created by: RockToonz

5149217829_108fa7f66e_m.jpg 5149217675_939abb59f6_m.jpg

RockToonz says: “This track will give you five elite obstacles/challenges that will prevent you from racing smoothly. Most of them are new props and will give an experience of a fun and enjoyment… SO i DARE you to race this!!! >: ) Enjoy!!!”

Ramone says: Holy mechanical dinosaur attacks!! This track is awesome! As if perfecting a drift through a gauntlet of fire-spitting, Kart-crunching K-Wreckses weren’t enough of a challenge, there’s a massive jump that allows for some amazing spins, but only if you can avoid those evil Flaming Pendulum Choppers. Once you’re on the ground, you’ve got to manage some ugly tilting platforms before you can wrap a lap. I think one’s fun for both Time Trials and Action Races.

Track Name: Hill House Haunt
Created by: Manlius10A

5149217871_795ea090fd.jpg

5149824600_c9960fb36f_m.jpg5149824816_e26b4d257c_m.jpg

Manlius10A says: “Unfortunately, I missed the Halloween contest deadline, but this is my Halloween track, which starts as a winding road leading to stately yet ominous mansion. Once under the mansion, the track bends right into a dense and confusing hedge maze. There are three alternate routes in the hedge maze (all within 2 seconds of each other). The hedge maze paths descend into dark passages and tunnels underneath the estate (custom made). The tunnels open up to a haunted swamp with alligators, shallow marsh waters, and multiple routes. After the swamp, the track finishes in a creepy cemetery!”

Ramone says: Wow, there’s a lot to love here. Shortcuts, narrow, winding stretches, a swampy bayou section… What’s not to enjoy about this track? I must warn you, though – learn run it a few times before you try to compete on it. When the racing is hot and heavy, it can be easy to get turned around (particularly in the swamp). Good luck on this one, Nation.

Track Name: Altago City
Created by: apricot-jam-IS

5149823904_2779501063.jpg

5149217389_6bb3756fb0_m.jpg 5149824088_aef5a40be2_m.jpg

Apricot-jam-IS says: “A fun fantasy city track with lots of shortcuts to explore. You will choose between three paths to take near the beginning. All paths will join again later and each has their advantages. Don’t forget to take in the beauty of your surroundings as you blaze through the track.”

Ramone says: I love how (mostly) wide open this track is. One of the first things you’ll run into is a choice between going left or right. A little insider info – Left will send you to some killer drift opportunities, and right will put you on a wild shortcut through some jumps and narrow paths to more jumps and eventually a CRAZY jump from which you can spin to your heart’s content. Get all the Boost you can on this one because you’re gonna need it. Action? Yep. Pure? Yep. Time Trial? Yep. A good all around track.

"You've heard rumors of us working with a big film director who is actually a big gamer," THQ core games EVP Danny Bilson said during his keynote at the IGDA Leadership Forum. Uh, dude, heads-up: those aren't rumors any more. As it turns out, we'll finally get an official announcement about Guillermo del Toro's THQ project during the Spike VGAs next month.

"He's a gamer who wants to make a great game," said Bilson about director Guillermo del Toro, "and has very interesting points of view and is partnered very closely with myself and my writing partner, Paul." Bilson revealed that THQ "will be announcing the game title and the studio and all of that on the VGA awards in about a month."

If you're late to the party, catch up on some of our previous coverage here. Del Toro's game will have Lovecraftian themes to it ---- which is great, because we've always felt there should be more awesome games about Cthulhu.

It seems we're one step closer to creating that Kinect-headed robot we've been dreaming of, as NUI Group's AlexP has managed to break through at least some of the software tying the device to the Xbox 360. As the videos below the fold show, the peripheral's "NUI motor" (Natural User Interface motor) is handled by a basic Windows 7 application allowing it to nod its head up and down (knowingly, we'd wager). Another video displays how Kinect handles color and depth, while a third shows us how Kinect sees us (thankfully, it doesn't classify what it sees as "edible" or "non-edible"). This comes just days after open-source developer Adafruit offered a cool $2K to the first person to bust through Kinect's locks.

Microsoft has responded accordingly, stating: "Microsoft does not condone the modification of its products. With Kinect, Microsoft built in numerous hardware and software safeguards designed to reduce the chances of product tampering. Microsoft will continue to make advances in these types of safeguards and work closely with law enforcement and product safety groups to keep Kinect tamper-resistant." Now all we have to do is wait for hackers to unlock for Kinect's love core and we've got ourselves an early Wall-E prototype in the making -- the head, anyway.

Slam Bolt Scrappers is a genuine, bona-fide genre-twisting mash-up of brawling and building where one to four players clash in an all-out brawl while simultaneously creating weapon packed towers that fight alongside them. Gameplay centers on assembling colored blocks into powerful weaponized turrets while defending against enemy attacks and mobbing creeps. The game presents a deep battle mode with tons of replayability and a fast and frantic co-op campaign filled with deviously charming baddies, epic bosses, and fun, cartoony levels.

Duke it out and crush your enemies in the competitive battle mode by building massive towers of weapons…Or work together as a team to protect Slam Bolt City against hordes of invading baddies!

Another indie hero has joined the Super Meat Boy collective: VVVVVV's blocky, gravity-ignoring explorer Captain Viridian. Viridian will join Mr. Minecraft as one of the new characters exclusive to the PC version of Super Meat Boy. You've killed him thousands of times in VVVVVV (and if you haven't, you should totally check out the demo), now you'll get to watch him fail fatally over and over again in a new venue!

It sounds like you'll manipulate Viridian in the same manner as VVVVVV, changing gravity to allow him to walk on either the ceiling or the floor. "He has one of the most game breaking powers yet," Team Meat said about the new character on Twitter. "He flips." As a result, he will require "a ton" of bandages to unlock.
