Well, isn’t this a case of perfect timing. The other day we talked about The Portopia Serial Murder Case, a fan-translation of a Famicom game from Enix…one that never made it over to the states. Considering Grandia's innovative, pseudo-real-time battle system, it's ironic that Europe has spent years waiting for its turn to see the game hit PSOne Classics. The game hit the Japanese PSN in April 2009 and landed on US PS3s earlier this year, and now the Game Arts favorite will finally be available on the European PSN starting November 10 (tomorrow!).

For just €7.99/£6.29, you too can relive one of the greatest RPGs of the 32-bit generation and experience a battle system that today's games still have trouble topping.

What's all this, then? You'd fancy a five minute clip of British actors portraying the events of a Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit race? Brilliant, as EA's just sent one over! Perhaps you don't have a full five to sit around? A more condensed vid is available as well, both found after the break. Spot on!

With all the talk of violent video games last week, we got to thinking about one of the most vilified gaming franchises: Postal. It's been a good 17 months since we've had an update on the latest in the series, Postal 3, so we assumed ... perhaps even hoped a little, that it was dead. "Not so!" says Running With Scissors' Vince Desi.

He told us, "It's in the final stages in Moscow, I don't think it will come out this Christmas." It's a disappointment for anyone planning on giving the gift of a badger on a harness this holiday season, but have faith: Desi says he's hoping to set the badger loose in the first quarter of next year, much to the chagrin of ... well, probably everybody.

Here at Codemasters we’re working hard on Operation Flashpoint Red River. In Red River players embark on a full expeditionary campaign set in the remote and beautiful country of Tajikistan, bordered by China and Afghanistan. A fictional conflict with contemporary geopolitical themes unfolding over three distinct acts, presenting unique challenges which can be experienced in both single player and co-operatively by up to four players online. Dispensing with corny heroics, corridor gun-play and unrealistic set pieces, players deploy real life tactics in a range of new scenarios and against new enemies.

Whether you enjoy sitting down and playing through a compelling storyline, or brutally pushing through the enemy insurgents in a bit of co-op, it’s always satisfying seeing that little popup that lets you know you’ve just unlocked a Trophy. Trophies are your badge of honour, given for performing your best, proof of just how good you are at any given game. So who better to give them a clever name than you, the players! We’d like to get the PlayStation community to put their thinking caps on and name one of our Trophies. The winner not only gets the bragging rights behind the name, but also wins an exclusive t-shirt and a copy of Operation Flashpoint Red River at launch.

Taking part is simple! First think of a cool name for the following Trophy:

“Destroy an enemy vehicle with the FIM-92 Anti Aircraft Weapon”

Then, just head over to the Red River Facebook page and leave a comment with your suggestions before the 17th November. Sion Lenton, Creative Director on Red River, will be sifting through your comments for the most imaginative names, so start thinking! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Make sure you don’t miss out on the latest Operation Flashpoint Red River news by following us on Twitter and Facebook.

If you've been keeping up with the media released for Atlus' super stylish, utterly bizarre mystery-adventure, Catherine, you're probably wondering exactly how one will go about ... interacting with all the craziness. An update to the game's official site (via Siliconera) shed some light on the proceedings. The game will be split into three different gameplay systems, each with its own unique style and method of interaction. Appropriately, these gameplay segments are oddly titled: Nightmare, Drama and Stray Sheep.

"Drama" will be straightforward enough, leading players through beautiful interactive and non-interactive cutscenes, which will develop the tangled web of passion between protagonist Vincent and his two homonymous girlfriends, Catherine and Katherine. "Nightmare" and "Stray Sheep" are still up in the air -- though one of the aforementioned cutscenes recently made it online (and after the jump), showing off Vincent and pals enjoying the night life in a bar named "Stray Sheep." Perhaps this system focuses on Shenmue-style bar games? We'd be just fine with that.

With Shaun White now taking it to the streets, perhaps there's an opening on the slope for EA's snowboarding franchise, SSX, to reemerge from hibernation. A mess of newly registered domains points to the possibility of a reboot of the series, which has been sidelined since 2007's pedestrian Wii release, Blur.

Professional domain registration outfit Corporate Domains, Inc. (what a gig!) has locked down URL variations of "SSX: Deadly Descent," plus an "SSX: First Descent" domain -- suggestive of the popular reboot motif: the origin story. While none of this activity is confirmation of a new SSX game, EA has worked through Corporate Domains in the past in advance of public announcements, most recently to secure web real estate for potential Need for Speed names (though Hot Pursuit was ultimately recycled) and The Sims Medieval.

As for SSX, it's been more than a year since EA Montreal's Alain Tascan left open the possibility for a new entry in the series, saying in September 2009, "If the market is there and is ready for a new one, then we'll consider it." Perhaps through Move and Kinect, EA Montreal sees its ready market and an opportunity to build on the motion-controlled framework established in its Blur effort. Of course, fans of the last-generation games might prefer to see the series' original developer, EA Canada, stage the comeback. And what a meta-comeback story it could be! (The studio could use a big win following the NBA Elite 11 fail, after all.)

Still, all this domain fuss could just as easily be over the naming of the SSX iPhone game, which has been -- quietly -- in the works for too long.

A new entry in the Call of Duty franchise is like a large cauldron of rich, hearty stew -- everyone's going to find something different to say about it. Whether it's comments on the complex flavor of the broth, the freshness of the vegetables, or the depth of the zombified multiplayer component, no two reviews could possibly be the same. This metaphor went off the rails very, very quickly.

Anyway, now that you've read our review of Call of Duty: Black Ops, why not see what the rest of the peanut gallery has to say?
  • GamePro (5/5 Stars): "The good news is that the game is absolutely worth the investment, and even if you find yourself disagreeing with some of the changes Treyarch instituted or you run into a bunch of morons who are hell bent on ruining a particular mode for you, you have plenty of other options to keep you engaged for a good long time."
  • GameTrailers (9.3/10): "Treyarch has closed the gap between its games and the Modern Warfare franchise with boundless customization, a keen sense of what makes the formula a success, and listening to fans."
  • 1UP (A-): "When examining this seventh (and therefore odd-numbered) Treyarch installment beside the studio's history, it's apparent that not only does Black Ops show how much Treyarch has grown as a developer, but that it's easily their best title yet."
  • IGN (8.5/10): "Call of Duty: Black Ops is a great overall package that has a ton of content to enjoy. The multiplayer modes are largely based on what was established by Modern Warfare, but the twists that Treyarch throws in work well."
  • Giant Bomb (4/5 Stars): "Do you want to play more Call of Duty? I'm guessing the answer is yes, and by all means, Black Ops is worth playing. But for all its ambitious steps to set itself apart from the previous games, it flounders in a few too many of those areas to be a total success."
