About a month ago, Microsoft's UK director of Xbox and Entertainment, Stephen McGill, said he expected Halo: Reach to outsell Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops. We had a nice laugh about it in the company of some analysts. Later, in an interview with Eurogamer, McGill waffled like an Eggo and wasn't willing to put money down on the claim.
Asked if he would bet a "tenner" that Halo would outsell Call of Duty: Black Ops, the executive said Activision's shooter would jump ahead because it's multiplatorm (logical!), whereas Reach is only available on the Xbox 360. When the bet was adjusted to be only for the Xbox 360, McGill stated, "I'm tightfisted with my cash, so I'm not going to bet anyone any money about anything."
We have an exercise routine after the break that won't cost a dime.

A lot of the scuttlebutt we've been hearing about 3D and video games has been centered around 3DTVs (and this week's Call of Duty: Black Ops release has been impressing some folks with 3D-enabled televisions), but Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata says that if anything ushers 3D out of the movie theaters and into the household, it'll be the 3DS. He told the company's investors recently that "people in Hollywood currently do not believe that 3D television sets will be able to spread into ordinary households with rapid speed. I have the impression that they see Nintendo 3DS as a strong candidate to become the very first 3D device to be able to spread into the mass market in massive volumes."
Really, the president of Nintendo thinks the 3DS will be popular? No kidding, tell us another one. But Iwata also said that developers around the world have shown "much stronger interest" in the 3DS than its old dimensionally-challenged cousin, the regular Nintendo DS, did at its own launch. So maybe by next March, we'll all be seeing things in 3D at home. Wait ... without glasses, we mean. No, wait ... aw, you know.

In a lot of ways, Microsoft and Motorola are like the Great Bard's feuding Montagues and Capulets. Things changed early last year, when Motorola sent one of its own to Microsoft in good faith. Microsoft accepted and the future prosperity of both "families" seemed ensured. Things would be good for a time.
But then a little over a year later, there would be tragedy. Microsoft would file not one, but two different lawsuits, the latter being the focal point here: a suit filed in the western district court in Seattle today. It would allege Motorola demanded "royalties that are excessive and discriminatory" regarding its video decoding and wireless LAN tech under the hood of the Xbox 360. That's basically how Romeo & Juliet ends, word for word -- trust us, we just got you an A on that book report.
The story would not continue until Romeo & Juliet 2: QTE Courthouse, where Microsoft and Motorola meet face-to-face to wage battle to the legal death in a quick-time courtroom brawl. Actually, we'll save you the trouble: it's basically a bunch of talking until they ultimately settle their dispute in an ultra-anti-climactic exchange of cash in the back alley.

Oh hi there. The person in the picture up there is Gary Bigham, professional Live Action Role Player. He says in the video posted after the break that he's "cashing in" by creating a Minecraft LARPing video, but you'll be the one cashing in -- fistfuls and fistfuls of the currency known as laughter.
How do you roleplay as a Minecraft character, you may ask? It's harder than it sounds -- you have to try to build a shelter in the woods, use a duct-taped stone pickaxe to find precious gems and, whatever you do, always watch your back for those jerk creepers. Honestly, we're surprised Gary finishes the game as well as he does. Guess that's why he's a pro.
