The holiday season brings all kinds of happy traditions. For us, those traditions include dusting off the rarely used "old-navy" tag. Like last year, the clothing retailer is offering a free Harmonix game with a $25 purchase on Black Friday. This year, the Harmonix game in question is Kinect standout Dance Central.

If you're a Kinect owner interested in this offer, and you need some pants or something, we suggest getting to your local store long before it opens at midnight on Friday, November 26 (or Saturday in Canada). We heard reports last year that the free games were limited to the first 25 shoppers to come in. The good news is that if you wait in line and miss out on a copy, you won't feel much like dancing anyway. So that kind of works out.

Along with the community we’d been building up, I’m playing and reviewing many of the entries for our first ever indiePub Games Independent Developer Contest. There’s plenty of variety and creativity on display here, but there’s one game that sticks out to me the most. Its minimalistic visuals and haunting audio drew my attention at first, but it was the unique gameplay that kept me in. That game was Auditorium.

Conceptually, you are transforming light into a symphony of sound. If you’ve played it before, you know what I mean. If you haven’t experienced Auditorium yet, you’ll have that “a-ha!” moment after a level or two. And then you’re hooked.

Turns out I wasn’t the only one who felt the same, and soon enough, Auditorium was voted and crowned the winner of the competition.

Following their victory, we at Zoo Publishing and indiePub partnered together with the folks at Cipher Prime to bring Auditorium to PlayStation consoles. Along with developer Empty Clip Studios, we’ve collaborated and put together what can be considered the definitive version of the game: Auditorium HD.

This being our first major release out of indiePub, we and Cipher Prime really wanted to do something for the fans. So not only do you get the original, 72-level Auditorium experience in full 1080p HD, now dubbed “Auditorium Classic”, you get a lot more. “Auditorium Modern” is an entirely unique experience exclusive to Auditorium HD. We’re talking 78 original levels and audio; essentially a brand-new Auditorium game in itself! And they’re really challenging—during development, I had to rely on the debug build level select cheat in order to see all of them. It’s not that I couldn’t have eventually figured some of them out, I just really wanted to see and hear what cool things were coming up next!

Besides that, you can also thank Empty Clip Studios for coming up with stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move support. 3D was done in a more subtle manner that compliments the gameplay experience very well. If you’ve got the proper 3DTV display, it’ll be a nice visual treat. And you’ll be glad to know that you can use your PlayStation Move controller to play through the game as well. The DualShock 3 is no slouch in the controls department, but I personally preferred the immediacy that the PlayStation Move brought when playing.

And there you have it, from indiePub contestant to full-fledged PlayStation 3 game. It’s been a fun ride getting here, and I’m excited that you’ll all be able to play the game soon. Auditorium HD for PlayStation 3 is slated to be released November 23 for download via the PlayStation Store for $9.99. I and the rest of the Zoo Publishing and indiePub gang will be here to answer any questions or comments you might have about the game up until release when you can finally experience it for yourself!

A couple of new challengers have appeared in the crossover fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. GameSpot revealed that Mega Man X's buddy Zero, last seen fighting in this year's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, will join the Capcom side, while IGN posted a trailer revealing She-Hulk on the Marvel side.

Check out both trailers after the break, and watch out for a brief cameo from yet another new character, "Some Really Unfortunate Driver," in She-Hulk's trailer.

The first half of Ubisoft's 2010-11 fiscal year (from April 1, 2010 through September 30, 2010) showed positive growth comparatively with the company's fiscal first half of 2009-10, with sales up 57 percent to €260 million ($354.25 million) over last year. Despite the increased sales, the French publisher still spent the first six months of fiscal 2010 losing money -- €89.8 million ($88.43 million) in total.

Accounting for an enormous chunk of the company's first-half loss was "studios' roles and operations reorganization," which we take to mean "we've been building and staffing up our new studio, Ubisoft Toronto." The recent closure of Ubisoft Brazil assuredly helped mitigate the expense of creating a new base of operation, though apparently not enough to keep Ubi in the black.

Ubisoft had a pretty remarkable first half as far as its intangible offerings are concerned. In its recently published financial report, the company shows sales of DLC and downloadable games increased 100 percent year-over-year in the first half of fiscal 2011. The report chalks this success up to well-received blockbusters like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot claims was the best-selling PSN title of the quarter. Ubisoft will apparently set more of its sights on the virtual market in the future, as a slide on the financial report (PDF) lists the company's downloadable titles; the list includes digital versions of the Prince of Persia trilogy and an unidentified Splinter Cell title (or, perhaps, titles).

These mentions line up pretty well with a series of reports claiming that the two series' are receiving HD remakes on the PS3. Ubisoft has already confirmed that the Prince of Persia trilogy is real, but will only be released in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Australia) territories, later this week. Perhaps the company has changed its strategy (or has a different strategy for other regions), and is planning on a more widespread release over digital channels -- this would also explain why we haven't heard any hubbub about 360 versions of the two trilogies, as their respective download sizes would likely prevent them from slipping under the 2GB limit set for XBLA.

We've contacted Ubisoft for a comment on the references to the two releases.

Ubisoft's latest earnings release brings news of delays for both Driver: San Francisco and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Driver: San Francisco, which were previously planned for release in the fourth fiscal quarter, will now be included in the 2011-12 line-up," the report notes. Ubisoft's fourth fiscal quarter runs from January through the end of March 2011, putting the releases of both games somewhere in April 2011 or later.

Both Driver and Ghost Recon had already been delayed into the previous "early 2011" timeframe, making this the second announced delay for both titles. At this rate, Ubisoft is going to have to change Ghost Recon's title to "Ghost Recon: Soldier."
