Back in November 2009, Nintendo and McDonalds paired up for a Pokemon calendar. Little did they know that just over a year later, they’d be receiving a Guinness World Record for teh best-selling calendar in the world. Thus far, the calendar has managed to move 1,476,442 units. That sounds pretty damn amazing [...]

It's that time of year again -- when a profoundly boring unreleased game is played for days on end in an effort to procure other, better games for hospitalized kids. Desert Bus for Hope is a marathon in which the members of LoadingReadyRun play "Desert Bus," a minigame from the canceled Sega CD game Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors, over and over again in shifts, beginning tomorrow, November 19 at 9PM ET.

This year, instead of enduring the monotony of Desert Bus (in which players drive a bus from Tucson to Las Vegas, never going faster than 45 miles per hour) for four hours at a time, the members of LoadingReadyRun plan to play in twenty-four-hour shifts. And they'll keep playing as long as donations to Child's Play continue to come in. In addition, fans will be able to donate money to throw "virtual pies" at the team in an online minigame that will be hosted by The Escapist. One lucky LoadingReadyRun cast member will even get a real pie in the face.

We'd say we also look forward to the charity event that will directly follow this one. You know, the effort to raise funds for Loading Ready Run's psychiatric treatment -- but they're Canadian. Their Desert Bus-related PTSD will be treated for free.

As promised, Rage: Mutant Bash TV is now up for sale in the App Store [iTunes app link] as just "Rage," and it's offered in two resolutions: a standard edition (call it "SD") for $1 and an HD version for $2. Mutant Bash TV is an on-rails shooter based in the same world -- and built from the same id Tech 5 engine -- as id Software's in-development Rage game for PC and HD consoles.

Both the SD and HD versions of Mutant Bash TV contain the same basic content and both are compatible with most iPhones, iPod Touches and the iPad (the platform specifics can be found after the break). Take note: Weighing in at 537MB, even the SD version isn't "light," while the HD iteration fills up a hearty 743MB of space -- that's a whole lot of angry, angry mutant polygons!

Unable to connect to the PlayStation Network? Don't worry, it's not your console -- it's everyone's in the United States. With no apparent warning, PSN was taken offline for maintenance at 11:05AM ET this morning and is due to be back up-and-running again by 8PM ET. Sony announced the unexpected downtime in a tweet after maintenance had begun.

You may be able to access your friends list and other services sporadically, but Sony isn't making any promises as to how long even limited functionality will be possible. Oh, and if you see a screen with the ominous warning that "the PlayStation Network has been suspended," it's just a confusing way of saying that the network is down for service -- it doesn't mean your account has been suspended. Phew.

We'll leave it to your imagination to fantasize about all of the exciting changes that actually aren't happening behind-the-scenes, like the roll-out of cross-game voice chat. For all we know, the PS Store font is simply being changed -- it's probably not even that significant. So, with the PSN out, we invite you to hang out with us for the rest of the day. We'll put on a fresh pot of coffee.

As you all know we have been busy at Seed Studios preparing for the release of Under Siege. It is our first PS3 game and we are very happy with what we have achieved so far.

So up to this point besides working on the game we have also worked to get in touch with our fans. For that we have launched an official website and forum, started a Facebook page and posted here on the PlayStation.Blog. Feedback has been great and we cannot wait for the day when the game is on sale.

But getting an RTS feature-packed game on PSN was not our only goal, we also wanted the bring out the big guns and give our fans something extra. So I am proud to present the Under Siege intro.

It was made by the nice folks at Axis Animation (who you may remember as the creator of the Killzone 2 intro) and it gives you an introduction to the world of Under Siege. Hope you like it.

The mysterious Korean MMO Mega Man Online has finally been revealed. The ten-minute off-screen gameplay video after the break reveals what we didn't dare hope for: it's actually a run-and-gun. You know, like a Mega Man game! Basically, it looks like a polygonal, sped-up Mega Man X. Not bad.

Amazon has been dropping deals this week like it's trying to single-handedly stimulate the games industry. Today's "Prelude to Black Friday" offering from the online retailer features several special edition games at deep discounts, including Alan Wake: Limited Edition for a mere $30 (down from $80). That's the same price (a.k.a. 2400 Microsoft Points) the standard game will cost as a download when it arrives on Xbox Live's Games on Demand next Tuesday, November 23 (sans access to "The Signal" DLC, which is included in the LE).

Halo: Reach - Legendary Edition is also on sale, for a reasonable $75 (50-percent off), as the day's lightning deal, which expires at 5PM ET. Other all-day discounts on Amazon include the special edition bundles for Dead Rising 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Head past the break to peruse our galleries of some of these limited editions ... if you haven't already clicked over to Amazon!

It seems The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be available through GOG.com alongside its retail debut in May, 2011. Eurogamer reports the news will be made official later today. Both Witcher and GOG are overseen by Polish company CD Projekt, so the convergence doesn't sound, as the people of Mypos would put it, "ridigulous."

CD Projekt's GOG site hosts a number of "Good Old Games" and, when the company isn't performing poorly conceived marketing stunts, its DRM-free download service is focused and fantastic. The Witcher 2 will break new ground on the service by not being old -- let's just cross our fingers that it can at least live up to the other criteria.

Update: CD Projekt has confirmed the game will be available DRM-free on GOG.com, pre-orders available now.
