A few weeks ago we informally discussed with our community regarding putting up DLC that was previously offered as exclusive pre-order items, such as the Golden Guns. There were many, varied opinions and good points on all sides of the argument. Based on that forum thread, and other conversations elsewhere on the same topic, we’re glad to announce that we’ve made the previously exclusive Golden Guns multiplayer DLC available to everyone on the PSN Store for a mere $0.99! If you’re outside of the US, be sure to check your local PSN Store for exact pricing in your region.

THQ Executive VP of Core Games Danny Bilson stopped by our red carpet post at the VGAs this weekend with director Guillermo del Toro in tow, and Bilson talked with us about all of THQ's upcoming properties, including the quickly ensuing Red Faction movie on SyFy. "They're prepping right now," he promised, "And there's another one coming that we're going to announce soon." Would that be the elusive Saint's Row 3? "I can't talk about it or they'll cut my head off," he said. "But we're going to be talking about it at some point in the future in a big way."

For his part, Guillermo del Toro decided to work with THQ on the newly revealed inSane because he believes that gaming "is one of the most immersive mediums for storytelling right now." We asked him to tick off a few specifics, and he dutifully did. "Left 4 Dead has passages that are incredibly scary. Silent Hill is great, and Shadow of the Colossus was incredibly moving. There are Call of Duty moments that are better than any war movie."

Bilson interrupted at that one. "Wait until they ride the bus in the first level of Homefront!" As for del Toro's inSane, Bilson says, "we're only focusing on the game right now, and whatever happens later happens later. But we're building an incredible world together that we will be talking about more later on." We'll look forward to it.

EA wasted no time in getting up an official website for SSX: Deadly Descents -- or, as the cast of True Blood promptly renamed it during its reveal at last night's calamitous VGAs, Deadly Ascent (backwards snowboarding woooo). The page includes last night's announcement trailer and a few screens (posted in the gallery below), as well as a few intriguing details in the game's description. In short, it sounds like the worlds' first extreme sports/racing/survival horror game.

The site explains "players will explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet." Players will visit "the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade." We wonder if you get bonus points if you finish the race with all your fingers and toes un-frostbitten.

The game won't defy the series' penchant for sweet aerial tricks, as the site explains "the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it." Seriously, we're going to have a hard time remembering to do the latter while constantly fretting about the former.

At the red carpet event right before the VGAs this weekend, all we could get out of Bioware's two founding doctors, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, about their reveal was that "it involves shooting." Sure enough, as we predicted, the new game ended up being Mass Effect 3, and we'll look forward to more information about that game as we move toward release next year.

But in the meantime, Muzyka and Zeschuk were happy to tell us what they thought of fan reaction to the last entry in the series. Even though it came out last January, Mass Effect 2 remains a game of the year contender for 2010. "It's a tremendous honor for us to have the game considered in that light by the fans," said Muzyka. "At the end of the day, that's what it's all about." Zeshuck agrees that "it's a long time. But people seem to remember it, and it's really exciting that it's still on people's minds."

With Dragon Age 2 and The Old Republic already on the way, and now Mass Effect 3 due out next year as well, we asked if Bioware is concerned about spreading itself too thin. "There was a point a couple of years ago where we actually thought about that really carefully," says Zeschuk. "We actually did kind of constrict ourselves a few years back. We had to very specifically structure the studios."

But nowadays, the doctors feel that the company's balance is exactly right. "I've actually just done a circuit across the studios," says Muzyka. "What really struck me is how passionate our people are, and how much they care about the quality of the experiences. We're making different types of games in every studio, but they all retain that feel of Bioware."

We just got out of the Spike Video Game Awards 2010 in downtown Los Angeles and it’s been an amazing day for us! We hope all of you were watching on TV or through the live stream on Spike.com to watch the FULL announce trailer AND catch the reveal of the release date – UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception will hit stores on November 1st, 2011!

Earlier today, Evan, Christophe, Amy and Justin walked the red carpet, getting their chance to say a few words about the imminent showing of our announcement trailer before heading into the Los Angeles Convention Center to attend the Spike Video Game Awards. The rest of us met them inside as we witnessed an incredible show that the Spike folks put together for all the nominees and games that were announced today – they really did a great job showing our industry in a positive fashion and showing not only the developers, but the diversity of creativity and innovation we are all capable of producing.

At the tail of end of it all, we got to see a brief recap of UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune and UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves before the big moment – the first time our full trailer for UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception has been seen publicly. We’ve embedded our announcement trailer above in case you weren’t able to watch the Spike VGA show this evening.

If you didn’t catch this earlier this week, Entertainment Weekly revealed some details about UNCHARTED 3 – but there’s more to come!

We’re hosting a bunch of journalists tomorrow in Los Angeles to discuss our game and show them a bit more than you’ve been able to see so far. You’ll be reading (and seeing) about what we presented to them over the next few weeks in your favorite online web sites and print magazines around the world.

On Monday, we’re incredibly humbled (and I’m a bit proud) to see Evan and Christophe appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on your local NBC station. Trust me when I say you won’t want to miss it – we’ve got something great lined up for our appearance on the show.

That’s not all. The PlayStation Store will be updated soon with some UNCHARTED 3 content for our announcement – wallpaper, dynamic theme, PSN avatars and more. We’ll also reveal part one of a special behind the scenes look at the making of our announcement shot by the extremely talented crew at 2 Player Productions. There will be plenty of interviews, screenshots, concept art, even gameplay video on the way – and we will have only barely scratched the surface of everything in UNCHARTED 3.

These past few days have been extremely exhilarating for us to finally reveal UNCHARTED 3 to the world. All of what you’re hearing about and seeing so far are the culmination of a few months of incredibly hard work by many of us at Naughty Dog to pull everything together. We’re glad to be able take a quick breather and check out all of the impressions that are being formed about UNCHARTED 3 and where we’re taking Nathan Drake next. There is no doubt that we still have a lot more to do ahead of us before you can purchase your own copy of UNCHARTED 3 next year, on November 1, 2011 – we’re looking forward to helping you “uncover the truth” over the next year!

We are excited to bring to you the first gameplay footage from Resistance 3 – coming to you in the form of our trailer for the Spike Video Game Awards (VGAs). You’ll see some more live-action (ala our Cologne reveal trailer), representing two moments from the game: a treacherous boat journey, and a brutal arena battle. You’ll also see gameplay footage during the boat sequence, as Joseph Capelli and Dr. Malikov make their way through a flooded city filled with Grims while trying to avoid Chimeran death squads.

If you missed the post from Resistance 3 Creative Director Marcus Smith earlier this week, you should check it out. It brings you up to date on all the info we’ve released (including the first details about the storyline and our two-player online / split-screen campaign co-op). Click here to find out more.

If you’re already caught up, you’ll definitely want to check out the VGA trailer above. See if you can spot one of the Rossmore Shotgun upgrades, or my personal favorite, when one of the new Longleg enemies has his cooling-backstacks damaged, the overheat causing a messy mid-air explosion.

Resistance 3 is coming exclusively to PlayStation 3 on September 6th, 2011 in North America. Keep an eye on the Insomniac Games Facebook page and Twitter for more info!
