Coming from Mighty No. 9’s director, Koji Imaeda...

“I’ve been continuously working on the scenario whilst keeping in mind the Backers’ requests and the feedback we’ve collected from them so far. For example, I’m currently thinking about a way to integrate the appearance of the Mighty No. 9 Heroine Poll’s runner ups (such as Call D, renamed Miley) in the game’s story.

Coming from producer Nick Yu...

"We’re already seeing a ton of interest from our fans in the storyline and characters of Mighty No. 9. Of course the game remains the primary and most critical platform for that, but we’re also getting interest from potential partners in helping explore and flesh out the world of Mighty No. 9 in other media. With enough fan interest and the right opportunities, this game could be just the start of Beck’s adventures….”

A portion of a BT interview with Activision's John Coyne...

BT: Generally speaking, what’s next for Skylanders?

John Coyne, senior vice president of consumer marketing at Activision: Well that’s a tough question, because generally speaking I can’t say! We’re not revealing the new game just yet, because we’re still keeping the innovation under wraps. I can tell you that it’s pretty exciting – it’s a game-changer, it’s being developed by Toys for Bob again. But everyone’s going to have to wait a couple more months for more details.

What I can say about it is we really believe that the key to success both with the Skylanders franchise and in this category in general is innovation. When you look at franchises that endure over time, it’s because they continually innovate – and so it gives something for kids and gamers to keep them excited and keep them guessing and keep them coming back to the franchise. That’s the focus of the Skylanders franchise.

Double Helix's surprisingly good action game Strider headlines this week's PlayStation Store update in Europe. With favorable reception behind Killer Instinct and Strider, we imagine Amazon is extra happy with its recent acquisition.

Joining Strider this week is Rayman Legends and standalone expansion Assassin's Creed 4: Freedom Cry, both available on PS4. Earth Defense Force 2025 drops on PS3 this week and retro 2D side-scroller Gunslugs makes an appearance on PS Vita. Battlefield 4 Premium subscribers can also grab Second Assault today.

Knack and Tearaway have had their prices almost halved this week as part of a February sale promotion, and Lost Planet 3 receives a substantial permanent price drop down to £39.99 (€29.99). This simply scratches the surface of all the content added to the European PS Store this week, so head on over to the PlayStation Blog for the complete lowdown. [Image: Capcom]

Created by fans of Mega Man and the publisher of the Universal Fighting System CCG, the board game is Jasco Games’ love letter to one of the best video game characters of all time. We have launched this Kickstarter for two reasons. First, and most importantly, we’re seeking funding to make this the board game we always wanted to make. Kickstarter funding will allow us to use better materials, offer more extras like miniatures, cards, extra boards, and polish the finalized product, giving fans an even better experience and something that will be worthy of any Mega Man enthusiast’s collection. Second, we wanted fans to have a chance to show their support for Mega Man and be involved in this exciting process.

Thanks to everyone who has given us support already, and thank you to the fans for sharing with us their passion and excitement. Together, we will make this board game Dr. Light’s greatest creation (with the exception of Mega Man, of course).

Dejobaan Games' bullet-hell first-person shooter Drunken Robot Pornography has officially launched on Steam. As promised, the game is available at a reduced $12 until next week, February 28, at which point it'll revert to its full $15 price.

Drunken Robot Pornography is a jetpack-fueled shooter where players take on massive, 30 foot-tall robots hell-bent on destroying the city of Boston. Drunken Robot Pornography is also a phrase you probably shouldn't Google at work. Like, ever.

Indie developer Dejobaan Games calls Massachusetts home and has produced a slew of oddly-named games such as AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!, a game about base jumping off buildings in Boston, and Drop that Beat like an Ugly Baby, a game that turns your MP3 files into explorable cityscapes. Aside from Drunken Robot Pornography, the studio is currently collaborating with Girls Like Robots developer Ziba Scott on Elegy for a Dead World - a game where players must explore the ruins of alien civilizations and share their histories with others through Steam Workshop. With a certain simian starring in a new, soon-to-be released action-platformer, I thought I'd voice my appreciation - yet again - of Nintendo's commitment to the 2D genre.

While all of today's console manufacturers seem to be on an even keel when it comes to 2D digital indie efforts anymore, Nintendo's systems are definitely the go-to hardware of choice for 2D games released at retail. Especially when most are exclusives to boot! Of course, you also have an awesome back-catalog of 2D Virtual Console games, which - trickle as it is - is now fairly robust on the Wii and 3DS.

Yes, other developers will occasionally release a 2D game at retail (I've spotlighted two of the best here), but Nintendo always seems to be leading the charge with quality efforts - look at all the Marios and the Kirbys and the DKCs! This gamer - and my family - thank them for it. :)

So kudos, Nintendo, for always reminding us how fantastic 2D action platformers can be, and for the fun they bring. We'll be playing them for years to come.

You'll find more game deals after the jump, for Wii U, Wii, DS and 3DS - many of them in 2D! Thanks for reading!

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo has won a patent infringement case at the International Trade Commission. The case was brought by Technology Properties Limited LLC, Phoenix Digital Solutions LLC and Patriot Scientific Corporation, all of which are patent-licensing companies. The commission confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DSi systems do not infringe the asserted patent.

“We are very pleased with the commission’s determination, which confirmed the judge’s finding that Nintendo’s products do not infringe the asserted patent,” said Richard Medway, Nintendo of America’s vice president and deputy general counsel. “Nintendo’s track record demonstrates that we vigorously defend patent lawsuits, including cases in the ITC, when we believe we have not infringed another party’s patent. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others.”

Coming from Twitch director Jason Maestas...

"The unique nature and huge chat participation in the TwitchPlaysPokemon experiment has put enormous (and unforeseen) stress on our chat system. Our first adjustment on Sunday was to move the channel off of our general chat servers onto a dedicated event chat server, which we typically use for large events like The International and League Championship Series (LCS). This helped, but there were some fundamental issues with our chat infrastructure that required a review."

The hack and slash roleplaying action of the Sacred franchise returns this summer with the aptly-titled third entry in the series, Sacred 3.

According to developer Deep Silver, Sacred 3 has been designed with an eye toward co-operative play, both online and off. This allows the game to attract new players who may be on the fence about yet another action-roleplaying game without "compromising the rich lore and fantasy of the Sacred universe."

Sacred 3 sees the return of the Seraphim, Khukuhru, Safiri and Ancarian character classes alongside the debut of the Malakhim. As in all Sacred entries, each character class offers a unique swath of skills and special abilities that can be customized to suit an individual's playing style.

So far no firm release date has been revealed for Sacred 3, but to keep us occupied in the meantime, Deep Silver has served up the introductory trailer you see above. [Image: Deep Silver]

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls will serve social slayers by giving them formal and more casual options to band together and go a-lootin' in Blizzard's popular role-playing game.

Clans, which are invite-only, have a 120-person maximum and were designed for smaller, more tight-knit groups of players to coordinate schedules and gameplay goals. Anyone can create or request to join a clan, but players may only be enrolled in one clan at a time.

Communities, on the other hand, are a more casual means to essentially the same end. They can be open or closed, and players can be members of multiple communities at the same time. There are also no player caps on communities, so they can be as small or as large as players see fit.

Both features are live in the ongoing Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls closed beta and will be unlocked in the full game prior to the expansion's launch next month, on March 25. Custom tabs in the user interface of Diablo 3 will keep clan and community members up to date by displaying news, recent Legendary Item drops found by members (which you can ogle from within the menu) and a dedicated chat channel for direct lines of communication. Good hunting! [Image: Activision-Blizzard]
