Sega Genesis homebrew-turned-modern console release Pier Solar HD has been pushed back to an April launch on all platforms, developer WaterMelon confirmed this week.

WaterMelon's retro-styled RPG was originally set to launch digitally in March for the PlayStation 3, PS4, Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux, Android, Ouya and Dreamcast platforms. The project earned over $230,000 in backer pledges when it turned to Kickstarter for funding in 2012.

Ports for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One are also in the works, pending WaterMelon's acceptance into Microsoft's ID@Xbox self-publishing program. WaterMelon studio president Tulio Goncalves additionally hinted at the possibility of a 3DS port in a recent interview with Nintendo Enthusiast, explaining that the Wii U version's second-screen functionality would transfer easily to Nintendo's portable platform.

The Deception series was born from the fusion of two gameplay concepts: playing as an evil character and using traps as weapons. The combination of these features creates a truly unique gameplay experience – one in which you can plan and lay out traps, lure enemies into them, find the right timing to activate them, and enjoy the reactions of your victims. The thrill and anticipation as you watch for that perfect moment to press the button and activate a trap is a feeling we really strove to capture for players in Deception IV: Blood Ties, coming to PS3 and PS Vita March 25th.

The real fun, however, lies in combining these traps into combos. When your enemy slips on a Banana Peel, you could follow it up by pushing him into position with the Nudge Wall, picking him up with the Claw, and then finally taking him out with a strategically-placed arrow, for example.

Players can take advantage of the themed traps that come with each stage, and combine them with their own equipped traps for even more possibilities. This gives each trap battle an element of strategy, as players must decide which traps to utilize and how to combine them for maximum effect.

In the early stages of development on Deception IV: Blood Ties, when we were gathering a lot of new trap ideas, we came up with the idea to categorize the traps into three different “styles”: Sadistic traps for maximum damage, Elaborate traps for complex combos, and Humiliating traps for entertaining enemy reactions. This encourages players to find their favorite play style to suit their own tastes.

12490899485_cb150958e8_n.jpg12490898915_95b5479bfc_n.jpg

One example of a Sadistic trap is the Maiden’s Embrace. As our starting point, we took the Iron Maiden – a notorious medieval torture device – and added our own special touch to up the adrenaline factor.

Elaborate traps embody the technical aspect of trap combos, so we have a variety of traps like the Springboard and Claw that have special effects or lead into to other traps.

For Humiliating traps, we looked to places like comedy shows and comics for inspiration. We thought it would be funny to be able to use classics like the banana peel and the pie-in-the-face gag (well, a birthday cake, in this case) as weapons, so these make appearances as well.

How you use these traps in battle is only limited by your imagination. We hope you’ll give Deception IV: Blood Ties a try and experience this unique gameplay for yourself!

Drunken Robot Pornography is an FPS/bullet hell mash-up in which you wear a jetpack and shoot a whole load of robots, while your own robo-suit makes a whole load of quips. It’s out now, and I played a bit of it earlier.

Was that giant mecha-octopus-thing wearing a top hat? Maybe I imagined it. Everything moves so fast, it’s gone (i.e. dead, or has deaded me) before I get a chance to look at it. It’s like a canal ride by speedboat. “Was that a duckling? Wait, did we just pass a castle? Is this Manchester already? Oh God, watch out for that…” [DEAD].

Only with a jetpack rather than a boat. And in the future rather than on a quiet waterway. And with huge, deadly, robots rather than ducks and Manchester. Er. Okay, look, Dejobaan’s Drunken Robot Pornography is a first-person bullethellish shmup that throws more at the screen than there’s possibly time to see, and tries extremely hard – too hard, perhaps – to be funny. Oh bollocks, I think I’ve just written my conclusion right at the start of this piece. … [visit site to read more]

The Deluxe Edition will launch digitally on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC via Steam after Blackgate was previously only available on Vita and 3DS. Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate Deluxe Edition will include "enhanced high-definition 2.5-D graphics" as well as a new map and hint system. Deluxe Edition owners will be able to unlock a Zero Year Batsuit skin in addition to all the outfits in the game. Two Batman games came out last year. The big console version, Batman: Arkham Origins, came from a new development studio. That game's overshadowed, on-the-go semi-sequel Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate came from Armature, a collective of creators who helped make the great Metroid Prime games. Previously released only for 3DS and Vita, Blackgate now gets its own chance to find an audience on bigger screens with a downloadable Deluxe Edition. Thank God they're not adding another colon.Read more...

Last year we reported on Super Chibi Knight, an adorable-looking adventure in the Zelda 2 mold that's being developed by Abobo's Big Adventure creator Nick Pasto and his 8-year-old daughter Bella. Nick's on task for the programming nitty-gritty, while Bella provides the voice of the Chibi hero, sketches for character and weapon designs, and she's a valuable playtester - not least because she names the excellent Spelunky, Super Meat Boy, and Castle Crashers in her list of gaming favorites.

Some eight months on, Super Chibi Knight is halfway along in development, and while it's stayed stuck on Steam Greenlight since then, Pasto (senior) tweeted this morning that it's currently ranked #2 in the queue. Everything's looking good for a summer 2014 release for this father-and-daughter game, except for the last bit of funding to get it past the finish line. So, Pasto's turned to Kickstarter with the relatively modest goal of $6,000 to get Super Chibi Knight funded.

The fundraising campaign's already notched a third of that goal at the time of writing, with a healthy 32 days left on the clock. Also, if you want to pledge just a single dollar, Pasto says that if he ever has the pleasure of meeting you in person, you're guaranteed a high five there and then. More guaranteed high fives in the world can only be a good thing. [Image: Nick Pasto]

The infernal Greenlight machine rolls on, devastating the environment and breaking hearts without missing a beat. It doesn’t care what gets in its way. It knows only one pursuit: middling-to-popular indie games. Its main fuel source? People. Well, their votes, anyway. And also some arcane fusion of press reviews, crowdfunding successes, sales on other platforms, angel dust, kitten tears, and a signed copy of The Who’s greatest hits album. But hey, I can’t fault the system’s invisible, probably mutant hand for selecting the likes of Galactic Princess, Ultimate General: Gettysburg, Hover: Revolt of Gamer, and Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries.
